We used to have a composite worktop in our 'old' kitchen. It was cheap and the kitchen-guy warned us not to put any hot pans on the worktop, as it could crack due to Thermal Shock. Duh... When we installed our new kitchen, we opted for a ceramic worktop, which can handle hot pans being placed on it! Thermal Shock font is a very nice, handmade brush font. If you ever bought any brush fonts of mine, you will know that I almost always use Chinese ink and cheap brushes to create 'the look'. It is always a bit of a surprise how a Chinese ink brush font turns out: I created one the other day and it looked horrible, so it was banned.. Thermal Shock turned out to be a looker. Thermal Shock comes with one set of alternate glyphs, extensive language support (including Greek and Vietnamese) and a guarantee it won't crack in super hot designs.

I have been walking around the streets of Bangkok with my good old film camera taking photos the way like back in the day. I think there is something magical and authentic in it. Guess what, the first day I went out with that camera I stumbled upon a place is called Fotoclub BKK they develop film rolls how cool is that! I shoot all the 36 photos at the Silom area, taking random photos most came out off centred subject, wrong settings, blurry just like the way I wanted! Soon after I was working on a handwritten script that is a perfect match to the overall topic of my stay in Bangkok so I named it after this exceptional adventure I have had here. The font contains all European diacritics and special characters, some double letter ligatures and stylistic alternates for better flow and more organic and natural look. Years went by before I was willing to pick it up again and invest the proper time into building a viable and useful recut. Just putting a new designation and tweaking a few glyphs here and there would not do the designer or the typeface justice; instead, I chose to redraw each glyph's skeleton from scratch for the four main subsets of the super family along with their italics. Each glyph across the super family is 'connected at the hip' with each style—each character carries the no frills, simple architecture that endeared so many users to it. The new recut expands the family to an enormous 72 typefaces! The original has spawned Compressed, Condensed and Wide subsets—all with corresponding weights—for complete flexibility. Additionally, all of the original weight variants have all been incorporated within the OpenType shell: Small Caps and Old Style Figures are there along with new tabular figures, numerators and denominators, expanded f-ligatures and a complete Central European character set.

Cora is a sans serif with an experimental bent, offering a large x-height, some contrast of stroke weight, and capitals inspired by classical lettering. The large x-height gives it a voice with a little more volume so that those in the back of the room have no trouble hearing. Because the letters seem slightly large, Cora remains clear at smaller point sizes. It is a typeface intended to perform well on screen without losing its attraction in print and the nature of its shapes allows for condensation or expansion without becoming severely distorted. The uppercase exhibits classical proportions found in ancient Roman inscriptions, which provides opportunities for setting titles in all caps. “Liebelei” – dalliance, flirtation, hanky-panky; kind of diminutive of “Liebe” (German for love) The typeface Liebelei has its roots back in 1932, when Vienna-based painter Rudolf Vogl created the poster for a movie called Liebelei after the popular play by Arthur Schnitzler. Only the title letters existed of that typeface. I loved the letters from first sight and proceeded by adventurously interpreting the missing characters. The goal was to create letterforms that fit to the original from the 1930s and represent a modern multi-purpose font. It should be an easy-to-use italic font with warm and friendly details and a huge variety of alternates and languages. The characteristic curled ends of most letters provide a script touch to the Liebelei. The first font entirely designed was the bold one which corresponds to the original poster lettering, although I tweaked the proportions a tiny bit to a more contemporary shape. Liebelei covers Western, Central European, and Central Eastern European Languages and contains also complete Greek and Cyrillic character sets. Liebelei is best for poster design as well as detailed usage, for example handsome tables, since it supports small caps, different kinds of numerals and fractions.

Shift, Alphabet keys will give you caps Mah Jongg characters, tiles beside a letter of the alphabet. The "lower case" alphabet is the same letter font used in the caps but without a tile. The regular keys "1 through 9" are the actual Crack tiles with the correct oriental glyph. Numerals to match the "lower case" are found using Shift and the Number keys. The $ sign is the Forward Slash and the "¢" sign is the Back Slash Dragons: Left & Right brackets Nice One Bam symbols: Shift, Left & Right brackets Hitting Option & the keys, "A,S,F & C" will reveal attractive flower designs. Punctuation, period, comma, quotes, etc. are in their usual locations. You may want to print this menu as a handy guide. Back in 2006 when we first released our Happy Holidays font, we thought the War on Christmas was over! We'd taken down our Menorahs, our Christmas trees, reclining Buddhas and red, black and green Kwanzaa decorations, and were prepared to sprinkle nothing more than a little Season's Greetings over our end of year celebrations. When we saw our friends and neighbors at department stores, we'd greet them with a simple, cordial, non-denominational “Happy Holidays.” But the font showed up at our company party this year having learned over 200 new languages (and, it must be said, a little bit loaded on Stylistic Alternates) in a mood to celebrate EVERYTHING. It was wishing people happy Bodhi Day, Solstice, Festivus, you name it! It even brought (count 'em) THREE new outfits based on the colors of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Rough Love, it’s fair to say, came before Love Script. The brushed letter specimens that would ultimately serve as the template for the much ‘cleaner’ Love Script have now been turned into a typeface. As I packed these up, I just kept coming back to them and staring at the texture and movement caught on the page. On a lark, I decided it would be fun to let people see an almost a before and after scenario of how one led to the other and decided to produce a typeface from these specimens… Rough Love. For the most part, in typical fashion for me when I brush out a typeface idea, I try to brush the entire character set along with each of the planned variants for swashes, titling, and other alternates—the reason for that is simple -- each letter looks and acts a bit differently when the same movements are imposed on them. With Rough Love, I tried to adhere to that and made very few modifications to the originals, and only had to ‘borrow’ in a few occasions when I happened to forget to brush a variant.

Muisca, that in its early edition was named as «Muisca Sans», was developed in mid-1997 and based on the graphic concept of pre-Columbian characteristics figures within some of the very few visual elements recovered from the Muisca culture. This ancient pre-Columbian tribe disappeared since the arrival of the Spanish 500 years ago, in what is now the center of Colombia. In fact, the name of the capital Bogotá goes back to Bacatá as primary or village downtown of what was once the imperial capital of the Muisca tribe. This typographic project was submitted as my work for the degree in Graphic Design, obtained in September of that year (at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia), under the creative concept of vindicating the ancient culture and identity through a functional typeface, into a fact without precedent in the country. Muisca was recently edited, arranged and completed, including multilingual diacritic glyphs to be versatile in several languages. Related and inspired by Latin America, Ethnic, Native, Tribal, Mysthical, Handmade, Aboriginal, Pre-Hispanic, Pre-Columbian, Textured, Fantasy. Type Tiles JNL is based on a ‘completed’ version of ‘Alpha-Blox’ by American Type Founders, circa 1944. The capitals, lower case and numerals shown in the sample sheet put out by ATF depicted type made with five-high blocks comprised of modular units spaced two points apart. These units could be combined in varying ways to create custom type of varying heights and widths and was available for purchase in both linear (multi-line) and reverse (white on black) formats. Using the 'reverse' model shown on the sample sheet, all of the characters were re-created digitally, and missing punctuation, foreign characters and other glyphs found in a basic computer font were drawn and added. The 'J' and 'T' in the type sample had truncations, so a more complete character was created for each of those letters. For those wanting an unbroken string of words or blank end caps, there is a double column space on the vertical bar key. A single column space is located on the broken bar key for shorter end caps. A few years ago I've discovered the work of one of the most prolific typeface designers of the Bruce type Foundry in NYC during late nineteenth century. Browsing Julius Herriet's work I found a very unique kind of ligatures in his patented "Old Style Ornamented" type design. Some letters were designed with a little top tail that allowed them to connect to each other. After that, I found that he also designed a single italic weight of the same font 7 years later. Since the beginning of the Opentype days I’ve been deeply obsessed with exploring different ways to build ligatures, so that lead me up to this point where I felt the need to create “Plethora”, this new font inspired by Herriet’s work. Extrapolating weights, adding variable technology and playing with additional interconnected letters and alternates. Definitely, Plethora means a large or excessive amount of something, and this font tries to bring back this abundance of details two centuries later. Available in 9 weights, from roman to italic, and also as variable format, “Plethora” supports plenty of latin languages and is a perfect choice for today’s design tides.

In fact, it's the ornamentals that make this font so much fun! At first glance, Festive appears to be suited only for the Christmas holiday season. But wait… you can use the ornamental dingbats for any occasion where festivities abound— New Years, Valentines, St. Patty's Day, Back to School, Graduation, Baby & Wedding Showers, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and much more— even Sports. The base font works well with bodies of copy, while the alternate fonts can be used to swap out individual characters to give a custom, hand written look. After a lot of time sitting at my desk, creating fonts and trying to figure out how my new software works, I really like to work out a bit. The only thing that I do not like is the music they play at the gym; it is usually a selection of poppy tunes that appeals to a large audience. But not to me. I prefer my death metal - and eighties music, as it brings back a lot of good memories. So, I bought myself some ear buds and installed a music streaming app on my phone. Yes, I know, I am probably the last person on earth who discovered streaming... One day, during a workout session, I listened to a list of eighties music and one song that I had forgotten about started playing: Rappers Delight by The Sugarhill Gang. When I started working on the font, I had to think about the song and named it Square Beat. Square Beat font, other than the name implies, is a rounded, handmade font, ideally suited for books and magazines aimed at a young audience, toy packaging or posters. It comes with great language support, including Vietnamese.

When the original Aaux was introduced in 2002, I intended to go back and expand the family to offer more versatility. Years went by before I was willing to pick it up again and invest the proper time into building a viable and useful recut. Just putting a new designation and tweaking a few glyphs here and there would not do the designer or the typeface justice; instead, I chose to redraw each glyph's skeleton from scratch for the four main subsets of the super family along with their italics. Each glyph across the super family is 'connected at the hip' with each style—each character carries the no frills, simple architecture that endeared so many users to it. The new recut expands the family to an enormous 72 typefaces! The original has spawned Compressed, Condensed and Wide subsets—all with corresponding weights—for complete flexibility. Additionally, all of the original weight variants have all been incorporated within the OpenType shell: Small Caps and Old Style Figures are there along with new tabular figures, numerators and denominators, expanded f-ligatures and a complete Central European character set.
