CastleType was commissioned in 1991 by San Francisco Focus magazine to digitize three members of the Standard family. This is a Continental lineale that was popular in Switzerland in the 1950s and later in the United States. A cousin to the classic sans serifs, Standard is an alternative that is considerably warmer and a bit more idiosyncratic. In 2008, CastleType released additional members of the Standard CT family to make it a complete typographic solution with three widths (normal, condensed, extended) of four weights each (Regular, Medium, Bold, and Extra Bold). Some of the original Standard fonts, particularly Standard Regular, appear to have been hastily designed (or perhaps too closely imitated Helvetica); these have been greatly improved in the CastleType versions with more harmonious proportions and other refinements. The three lighter weights of the Extended subfamily were designed from scratch based on the new Standard CT Regular and Standard CT Extended Extra Bold. More recently, four light weights (Light, Extra Light, Ultra Light, and Hairline) have been added to each of the three widths. The entire Standard CT family includes support for most European languages, OpenType features, arbitrary fractions, and a collection of geometrics, dingbats & fleurons.

The font is actually not a revival of ‘Avant Garde’—by Herb Lubalin—but it takes its spirit. Fibra is a geometric sans serif, yet without the typical structural strictness of these kind of fonts, that represents experimental type design. This can be seen in the contrast between curves and straight lines in some characters such as ’n’ and ‘h’ unlike rounded ones such as ‘a’ and ‘d’; details of some display characters (e.g. three upper terminals in ‘W’ and projection off the stem in ‘A’); and exaggerated terminal in ‘R’. All these features give Fibra a strong personality—a sans serif typeface that ‘gives you the chills’. Fibra was specially designed for display use. If you take the South Shore Line from Chicago to South Bend, your train will pass though the small community of Beverly Shores, Indiana. The beautifully restored and highly colorful “Beverly Shores” train station sign not far from the Lake Michigan beach is the source of inspiration for this connecting script typeface. The sign’s existing ten letters have now been extended to include the entire alphabet. This old-fashioned depot letterstyle is much in the spirit of such faces as Fulton Sign and Inserat Cursive. Ascenders and descenders have been lengthened and capitals are now much larger. Alternate lowercase swashes, capitals, and small figures have been included for your convenience. This family was created inspired from the two sets of rough initials fonts used by the famous William Caxton in Westminster (GB) in the late 1400’s. As it was normal for the time, there were not any differences between I and J, U and V. It is not a mistake. We have reconstructed the few other missing characters. This font was conceived as a supplement for our 1479 Caxton but may be used with all our Blackletters fonts.

CoffeeMug has letters on coffee mugs. Upper-case letters have the handles to the left and lower-case characters have the handles to the right. The letters on the mugs are from the typeface InsideLetters. The typeface contains characters that will add color to letters. There are two ways to do this. One uses layers and the other a combination of characters, some with zero-width. A file in the gallery explains the ways that this can be done.

Maryam is an Outras Fontes type family designed by Ricardo Esteves Gomes. With moderate contrast, these fonts have elegant and very legible forms even in small x-height sizes. Quentin Schmerber’s Temeraire serif font family was not designed to be invisible. It is a typographic exploration meant to be seen — with its beauty, one could even say beheld. While some fonts aim to be as easily ignored as possible, Temeraire is offered as a gift to wide-eyed readers with its anything-but-boring character and its conspicuous inconsistency in styles. Most type families increase the weight of each character to expand the family. Instead, research into 17th century sources produced Temeraire’s wide range of letterforms, from the predictable to the odd and loosely related through time. Each style is designed to work alongside the others but are also standalone homages to specific parts of English lettering tradition: gravestone cutting, writing masters’ copperplates, Italiennes, and others. Temeraire’s Regular style is a contrast-loving Transitional Serif with vertical stress, making it great for period and classic works, ironic pieces, and modern throwbacks. The weight of the Bold squares off the ends of each glyph to give it stability, and the italic style rings true: flowing, contrasting, and purposefully inconsistent. Temeraire’s Display Black style is one salvaged from expressive gravestone artistry. The details most easily noticed are the ‘g’ with its descending bowl that has been pressed back up in the centre, and the additional serif on the ‘t’ crossbar that holds its neighbouring character at bay. By design its characters flow and bend in ways not in step with the rest of the family. As with all TypeTogether families, Temeraire meets the current designer’s needs. I want to fill in this space and create a system of fonts, that will be used primarily in sport. It is usable for many prints - logotypes, magazines, catalogues, posters etc. Elasticity of glyphs reflected an adrenalinous shapes of latest bikeframes, skies or sportcars. Maximum open arches guaranteed good readability in very small sizes and prevented interchanges of glyphs „o, c, e“ per poor reading conditions. Softness of lowercase is at uppercase balanced in bottom arches, that are subtly kicked-up. Numerals are an important component of sport communication, so this font offers expressive design, different from numerals of book typefaces. Every font has 9 kinds of numerals. Both fonts support all Western European languages and Turkish. Barchowsky Dot is for young children or others who need remediation. The letterforms are identical to those in Barchowsky Fluent Hand. Used at a large point size open dots appear within the lines that form the characters indicating where one should start each stroke in a letter or number. Once formations are learned Barchowsky Fluent Hand can be used with the contextual alternates turned off until students are ready to write in the joined-up manner of a true cursive. Specifications: The technology for fonts that automatically join letters, or allow them to be unjoined is relatively new. At present, both fonts work on Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or later (or Vista), using AbiWord, a free word processor (go to abisource.com). They also work well with InDesign 2. Currently there is an unknown factor in later versions of InDesign for Windows that disallows joining. Macs completely support the fonts using InDesign 2 and later, PhotoshopCS and IllustratorCS. If you do not have these applications, there is an inexpensive word processor for Macs.

Kiperman is a text typeface designed in honor of Henrique Leão Kiperman, founder of the publishing house Artmed, now Grupo A. Its forms are simple and straightforward, with no unnecessary embellishments that could disturb the reading. The fonts are slightly narrower than normal, which yields higher efficiency without compromising reading comfort. Besides that, its italics are not just a slanted version of the romans, but rather a separate drawing. With a slope of 8°, its calligraphic structure provides the right amount of emphasis when necessary. The Kiperman typeface works best when setting books, magazines, ebooks and websites. It will also work very well in branding and packaging projects where a sober typeface is needed. The inspiration for the design came from the personality of the honoree. Just as Henrique always wanted to stay away from spotlights, the Kiperman typeface was designed so that it would not call attention to itself or impose any obstacles in the understanding of the text. In this way, the fonts revere Henrique’s legacy by respecting and honoring the published content. Henrique Leão Kiperman began his career in 1958, selling medical books in travels through the interior of the Brazilian states of Paraná and Santa Catarina. In 1973, he opened a bookstore in downtown Porto Alegre, the Artes Médicas Sul, and a few years later edited his first book. Since then, his company has grown to become one of the most important publishers in Brazil in the area of scientific, technical and professional books, with more than 2400 active titles distributed among the McGraw Hill, Bookman, Artmed, Penso and Artes Médicas imprints. Henrique passed away in 2017 at the age of 79. The Kiperman type family has been commissioned by Grupo A and is available for licensing. This was the way found for the fonts to be read by more people, spreading some of his spirit around the world.
