The model for this monocase typeface was issued in the early 1900s by Barnhart Brothers & Spindler with the rather prosaic name of Steelplate. A hundred years later, it still retains its currency (ouch!), which is how it got its name. Complete Adobe character set except for superior numbers. As a kid I used to write my favourite football teams name with 3D letters over and over again. I spent hours doing this - often to find out I had the colors wrong, or I had made a spelling error or two - but now, several years after, I have created the "Like a cat" font - so that you can make "handmade" headlines or funny quotes or even your favourite football teams name in a swoosh! Squickt was the first script I designed. The name is an atrocity, I don't remember what was on my mind, when I decided on that name, but after 25 years it is to late to change, so I have to stick with it. I have recently gone over the script and changed a little stroke here, a curve there and I added Small-Caps. The font is very useful for all kinds of signs, that have to look spontaneous. This time the font's name is meaningless. Maduki doesn't mean 'cool' in Swahili, nor does it mean 'cup cake' in Sranantongo. It is just a nice name. Maduki is a playful font, created with one of my 2 year old son's marker pens (the 'no stain, wash-out' variety), a couple of cups of coffee and a whole bunch of 'speculaas' cookies. Now you're wondering what speculaas is, right? I'll tell you later - in a couple of fonts... Anyway, there's not much meaningful to say about Maduki font. It is nice, it is cute and it comes with alternates!
