RRollie is a typeface family inspired on the proportions of the Roman capital in the Augusto's age, some of them can be seen in inscriptions of Pompeii; in this particular case, it has taken an inscription from a tomb of the year 15 AD. The subtlety of the serif is hardly insinuates, helping to strut the terminals of the stems. Ascenders and descenders are very short. The thickness variation is presented quite delicate, highlighting the light-dark passage and even the agile counterblocks of the typeface. One of the earliest fonts published by Canada Type was Almanac, Phil Rutter's digitization of Imre Reiner's 1957 calligraphic typeface, London Script. In 2007, when the font was revisited for an update, it was shown that it too light for applications under 24 pt, and too irregular for applications over 64 pt. So the face was redigitized from scratch, using larger originals. This new digitization maintains a soft contour and, slightly darker and steadier stroke, and much better outlines for use at both extremes of scaling. Language support was also greatly expanded, and many alternates and ligatures were added to the redigitized character set. The name was also changed to Reiner Hand, to better reflect the origins of the design. Reiner Hand is soft and irregular jolts from a calligraphy master's hand. In a very Reineresque fashion, most characters include the one finishing stroke that makes professional calligraphers pause and ponder this additional touch to a letter's personality. Essay Text Italic refers to that more vaguely, resulting in a formalised look with fairly upright and open shapes and little cursiveness. As in the Renaissance, before the mating of roman and italic, Essay Text Italic works as a separate text face and a perfect secondary type. The name Essay derives from the literary meaning of the word, attempt or trial. Therefore, the typeface Essay can be seen as an attempt to express an opinion about reading, the omnipresence of history, the importance of calligraphy and the importance to deviate from that calligraphic source; as well as an attempt to crystallise lettershapes in balance between convention and the designer’s personal idiom.

From the standpoint of calligraphy, a font family of capitals and uncials makes perfect sense. The Roman square capitals, the quadrata, are matched by round capitals of older Greek origin; the word "uncus" means hook-shaped like a beak or talon. Interrelated and often interchangeable, these capital letters served as book hands for both the Latin West and the Greek-speaking East before they evolved into minuscule alphabets. The Testament family is based on the few formal capital manuscripts of the Bible, Virgil and Homer that have survived from the ancient world. Throughout the Middle Ages both uncials and square capitals were used, often together, for headings and initial characters. By their nature the Roman capitals are the voice of Caesar and hold the place of authority, while the uncials speak for the Church in a balanced relationship. In ancient times church and state were not as separate as they are now, and the alphabets were not as different as typographic tradition has made them. In this calligraphic rendering it is clear that they are of the same substance and can be written in the same style, conveying even to the modern eye the eternal and classical quality of epic and scripture. Gerard Unger’s new typeface Alverata is a twenty-first-century type-face inspired by the shapes of romanesque capitals in inscriptions of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, without being a close imitation of them. It is additionally based on the early twentieth-century model, but tweaked so as to prevent blandness and monotony. Alverata performs beautifully in both screen and on paper, delivering excellent legibility. Its letters are open and friendly in small sizes and lively and attractive in large sizes. They are robust, and show refinement in their detail. It is an extensive type family, with versions for both formal and informal applications. Alverata consists of three different fonts: Alverata, Alverata Informal and Alverata Irregular, that variate in form and width, but maintain the same spirit. The ‘irregular’ version is particularly inspired by the Insular letterforms, the uncials, and their constantly changing positioning. Alverata PanEuropean includes Greek and Cyrillic relatives. The typeface strikes a balance among Europe’s diversity of languages, combining contemporary typographical practices with features of medieval letterforms, from the time when Europe came into being. Chicago Ornaments is a collection of decorative cuts cast by the Chicago Type Foundry of Marder, Luse & Co. of 139-141 Monroe Street in Chicago, Illinois. This collection was shown in their 1890 Price List. According to William E. Loy, at least some of them were designed by William F. Capitain. Chicago was one of the innovative Midwest type foundries, introducing the American Point System. These designs represent the late Victorian period. After 1890, with the posters of Jules Cheret taking Paris by storm, Art Nouveau gradually began to displace Victorian style. In type design, both styles competed against each other until about the end of the century. Designers may want to consider using these ornaments when using Victorian style typefaces, like our Cruickshank, Edison and Freak - as well as faces by others such as Karnac, Kismet and Quaint Gothic. The original version of Salloon was what has become Salloon-Wide. It was designed a year or two before 1990. The narrower version, which is now the regular version of the face, was constructed a few years later. There never has been a true lower-case set of letters for these fonts, but the narrower version introduced a second set of caps by removing the side bumps from the letters. Although Salloon may look like an old font, no historic font closely resembles it. Fonts with bold, thick stems such as Salloon invite interior decoration. The five striped versions and the shattered version of the font were produced a year or two after the construction of the narrower Salloon when the arrival of a font distortion program made it easy to cracked and stripe fonts. In 2019 an outline style and two highlighter styles were added to be used in layers with the Salloon-Regular and one highlighter style was added to be used with Salloon-Wide.

The objective of this font was to try and find out how far back in the designer's life this obsession with letters began. The challenge was to draw, from memory only, two sets of caps that recall older Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies lettering. The experiment was a success, which means that the designer's got it bad since he was, like, four! This 12-font family employs several unique features including a 2-part Chisel set which allows for the look of stone incised lettering. Hedonic has just a hint of a slab serif and even that is used so sparingly that it almost feels like a sans serif font. Its design does appear to be painfully simple but there are many interesting features including a selection of weights, small caps with old style numerals and display weights that make it very useful. And legible. Old style numerals are included with the small caps and italics. Also for display purposes are two "Chisel" fonts. Used together, set one on top of the other, they create a stylish 3D effect—ideal for logos and headlines or anything that needs a strong graphic punch. This is Alter Littera’s first original design. The font has been created by attempting not to reproduce any historical typeface in particular, but only to re-create the overall forms and style of classic black-letters from different time periods and places. Two specific sources must be acknowledeged nonetheless: (1) the “Black” type from William Caslon’s A Specimen of Printing Types (1785), and (2) the “Caslon Gotisch” type by D. Stempel A.G. (1926). In addition to the usual standard characters for typesetting in modern Western languages, the font includes a comprehensive set of special characters, alternates and ligatures, plus Opentype features, that can be used for typesetting as in antique writings and printings. The glyphs are clean, smooth and definitely readable, so the font will be suitable not only for large titles and headings, but also for full text pages.
