Wonder Brush is a display typographer's guilty pleasure. It's one of very few fonts ever made that can take intense abuse and still look natural. Partly based on a 1969 Friedrich Poppl design called Poppl Stretto, but considerably fused with ideas found in interwar magazine ad lettering and signage, Wonder Brush caters to the idea that most graphic designers would rather use design elements they can enjoy. When you spend your days being "challenged" and "creatively tested" and "communicating the message," you can definitely use a little bit of playtime. And this font gives you just that, playtime on the job. Wonder Brush appears to be a straightforward narrow upright brush script. But it really is made of malleable rubber. Take it into a program like Adobe Illustrator, set something, stretch or squeeze, shear or warp, slant or transform… just play with it like they used to do in the 70s and 80s. You will soon discover that this font really is a big old top hat, and it's up to you and your mischief to pull rabbits or geese out of it. EraMax 123 is a multi-layered display geometric sans serif, meant to be set BIG, for large, colourful statements. It's the perfect face for packaging, posters & branding, where a strong, colourful voice is needed... Did I mention posters? The "Max" in EraMax comes from the ultra bold weight, but also, and mainly as a tip of the hat to Peter Max, the designer and artist, known for creating so many images which have come to be emblematic of the sixties and seventies. The bold gradient effects in some of his posters were the inspiration behind the dotted and striped layers. This is the second of what is to be an extended family of typefaces based on the original hand painted signage found in the T. I will spare you the long-winded description this time and all of the motivations and witty innuendoes. Quite frankly, I forgot about creating this typeface and it sat on my hard drive for almost a year. Luckily, my daughter Isobel saw the initial drawings one day and ask me about those pretty letters and I remembered… yep, that happened. That said, time made this a better typeface… with fresh eyes and time, much was redrawn, retooled and expanded to something I truly enjoy playing with. Shameless makes extensive use of Contextual alternates to create a proper ebb and flow from letter to letter. Interestingly, there are only a handful of ligatures… instead many special combinations are accounted for solely by relying on Contextual Alts. Mix in Stylistic Alts, Swashes, responsive Titling Alts, numerous Style Sets, etc and you can have a lot of fun. I created 2 versions. A ‘Standard’ version that has 2200+ characters and a ‘Deluxe’ version that has 2400+ characters and an interesting caveat… I plan on expanding the Deluxe version any time I have an idea to add to the typeface… and as such, buyers will receive all of those updates at no charge (with updates going directly to the distributors). You get what you pay for… no insane discounts. Oh, and if you are wondering… Shameless is based on my handwriting using Kuretake Zig CocoIro pens. I love these pens.

Capsule is a reverse-stress, high-contrast, rounded sans-serif font with two distinct personalities. An all-caps face, there are however variations of some letters in the lowercase slots. The lowercase variants are more playful, with more bulbous elements that riff on phototype faces like Amelia and Data 70, but all can work together and be mixed and matched to your heart's content. Capsule boasts a bunch of esoteric discretionary ligatures to play around with, and stylistic alternates for 4, 7 and £. The language support is extensive enough to set essays in most Latin-based languages, even though that's the last thing you should be doing with this font! Capsule should be set large. The fit is tight and the kerning is aggressive. A long lost Art Nouveau wood type from the Hamilton Museum Collection evokes the excesses of Victorian design and the equally quirky 1960s Psychedelic era revival of the Victorian type styles. Free flowing organic designs that flourished with Art Nouveau in the late 1800s were directly referenced and further distorted with with phototype in the late 1960s. This design, known as Arabesque, was produced by the Morgans & Wilcox Co. and the Wm. Page Co. as almost identical designs. Both manufacturers were acquired by Hamilton and offered briefly by Hamilton as design #618. This curious wood type defies most of the basic tenets of type design and what comes to mind when one thinks "wood type". Many characters have a lively eccentricity that were all left true to the original design. Additional characters were designed to fill out the standard range of characters found in digital fonts. The retail storage box for a vintage metal numbering stamp manufactured by the American Numbering Machine Company had its brand name hand lettered in an Art Nouveau style that most likely went back to the 1920s, as the company was in existence from 1908 to around 1971. Numbering machines were used in offices, schools, libraries, and anywhere a series of numbers needed to be marked onto printed items. Similar to what was called a ‘crash numberer’ used in letterpress shops, the machines could be set to do a run of digits [for example: 4000, 4001, 4002] or repeat numbers for forms used as carbon copies. As computers took over most forms of printing, the use of numbering machines dwindled, but they are still available. The American Numbering Machine Company was one of several Brooklyn, New York companies that specialized in the manufacture of these machines. I am shocked to my very core that the name "Tropical Punch" hasn't been used for a font yet. What a delight, that my very first name choice is available, and I can grow my collection of fonts named after delicious food and drink! Tropical Punch is a retro-tropical font with a ton of variety: I've included nearly 200 multi-letter ligatures with nesting letters, to add quirky and fun variety to all of your projects. There are also a few alternate vowels, plus a few dingbats to add jazzy pizzazz; and 10 smaller catchwords like THE, AND, WITH, and more! The origin story of HANLEY FONT COLLECTION all starts with the Script. We were designing logos and kept feeling like we needed a different kind of script, vintage feeling but not dated, and not too baseball-y or too formal. We couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for, so we decided to create it ourselves. After that we realized what we really wanted was good wood block looking lettering especially with small caps. And the collection just grew from there - a tall slim style, a monoline version of the script and of course a good sans. We topped off the group with a large selection of catchwords and extras with plenty of swirls, swashes and frames. Hanley has just enough irregularity to the edges to impart a human feel, but it’s still clean. Super versatile, all the styles work well together and can look authentically vintage or modern and hand-crafted.

The term “Surf Bum” was a slang phrase used to casually describe anyone who spent as much of their time as possible at the beach catching waves in the 1960s. The Revell Company was a well-established maker of plastic model kits such as military airplanes, monsters from Universal horror films and other such items when it hooked up with custom car designer Ed “Big Daddy” Roth to develop a model kit line capitalizing on the surfing fad that was sweeping the West Coast at the time. A number of crazy-looking hot rods, dune buggies and what-have-you were turned out, and one such kit (“Surfite”, with Figure) featured a futuristic one-person dune buggy. It was on the box for the model that the words “with Figure” appear in a casual, brush design type face. Those few letters were the inspiration for creating a new retro type face entitled Surf Bum JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
