The family keeps growing, Ciutadella Slab is the ‘serif’ counterpart of the popular Ciutadella font. The former alternate characters like 'a', 't' and '&' are now the default ones (and the former default characters are now the alternates), giving way for a typeface more suitable for texts. Thus, the new Ciutadella Slab is not only a great headline family, it will also work in texts of intermediate length and size. Especially appropriate for magazines, brochures or branding. This new addition provides even more versatility to the family started with Ciutadella and Ciutadella Rounded. It is available in Open Type format and includes Alternate Characters, Ligatures, Tabular Figures, Fractions, Numerators, Denominators, Superiors and Inferiors. Inspired by New Transitional and Egyptian fonts, Tanger Serif has elements of a sturdy work-horse text face and finely detailed headline font. A wide variety of widths and weights support many text sizes. Typically Narrow is used in headlines, Medium in body and Wide in smaller print. Nothing is predefined, though. By combining the right widths with the right weights this traditional approach can easily be challenged. Let’s take an oversized (over 10 pt) body copy for instance. In conjunction with using a bigger size to enhance readability, a narrow and slightly lighter weight will save space and brighten text color. Tanger Serif Narrow is a slim normal rather than a condensed face. As an Open Type “Pro” font each weight includes an expanded character set, small caps, old style figures, tabular figures, ligatures, fractions etc. All these are easily accessible through OpenType features.

Here’s what happens when your trusty felt tip marker takes a trip to cartoonland. Each of Valentina’s plump characters has a rough and splotchy texture. Some letters even bounce up and down like a 3-year old. As cartoon faces go, Valentina is a bit on the imperfect side. But that’s normal for a funny face. Use it in a variety of comical situations. In many aspects, built in a traditional way. Still, some modern details have been implemented which classic designs sometimes lack. The prime goal was to make a strong text font for books and longer texts in general. This fact does not exclude the possibilites for use elsewhere. Throughout history existing designs have often been the source of inspiration for newer ones. Delicato is no exception and looking closely, similarities can be found in the lowercase of Jeremy Tankard’s Enigma and the stems of Petr van Blokland’s Proforma. The goal is to respect these sources and turn the the typeface into something new with a unique and personal touch. Most text faces carry a basic set of weights like Regular, Italic, Bold and Small Caps. MRF wanted to expand that a little bit further and added a Medium, Alternates and a set of Ornaments to make the family complete and versatile.

Octagen is a family of 16 condensed Sans Serif fonts of geometric construction and neo-Gothic style with short descenders and a humanistic finish in the curves and auctions of the tiny letters to avoid the coldness of the grotesque typographies, providing expressiveness, energy, warmth and docility , resulting in a friendly typography with a lot of personality and readability, specially drawn for the composition of short and medium texts, signage or headlines where horizontal space saving is needed. I've been in a vintage-meets-modern mood in my most recent font construction, and this is no exception. Whiskey Tango is a fun retro-style tall and narrow sans-serif font with a scoop of variety: it includes over 110 items in the Private Use Area, including small caps, alternates, ligatures, and ordinal indicators. There's just enough imbalance in stroke widths to make this font a little goofy and quirky, and really charming. Ryo Gothic is a new Japanese sans serif (or gothic) kana typeface design. Created by Adobe type designer Ryoko Nishizuka , the typeface has a bright and speedy calligraphic touch and can be used to compose readable body text, as it gives a calm and well-controlled color to the typeset page. Supplied in OpenType format, each Ryo Gothic font includes hiragana, katakana and some punctuation marks and should be combined with the kanji and other glyphs in existing Japanese gothic typefaces that contain full character sets. A typeface for telling stories. After seven years through which Rodrigo Saiani worked on Dupincel, Plau’s team still had months of dedication until found a good way of summing up this typeface. Telling stories is this typeface’s gift because it has the emotion for it, resources for it and the breadth for it. Structorator is a grid-based, experimental display font. This typeface emerged from experiments with generative type design. It evolved from a piece of code into a fully usable opentype font. The two main features are its rigid but playful design and a multitude of alternate glyphs. These features make it possible to create interesting lettering when using the default spacing. The glyphs are constructed from a limited set of patterns which are arranged within a predefined grid. The line thickness corresponds to the different cuts. Due to the rather complex shape this font will look best in larger sizes and resolutions. ‘Krul’ is a typographic interpretation of the lettering style created by Dutch letter painter Jan Willem Joseph Visser at the end of the 1940s, which decorated the traditional brown bars of Amsterdam. In the beginning, these letters were strongly associated with the pubs connected to the Amstel brewery, given that Visser was the company’s official painter. As the years passed, the style became increasingly popular, and various business owners in Amsterdam and other Dutch and Belgian cities also commissioned its use. In the 1970s and 1980s, Leo Beukeboom, another talented letter painter, continued and expanded this lettering tradition while employed under the Heineken brand. Much of his work can still be found in the Jordaan and De Pijp neighborhoods in Amsterdam. The Amsterdamse Krulletter, or Amsterdam’s curly letter, is strongly inspired by the calligraphic works of the 17th century Dutch writing masters, of which Jan van den Velde was a central figure. However, distinct characteristics of this style, for example, its unusual and beautiful ‘g’, originate from a model that was published by Johannes Heuvelman in 1659, which J. W. J. Visser referenced. Typographic circles have somehow overlooked the Amsterdamse Krulletter and its heritage. The Dutch calligraphic hands preceded and influenced the formal English penmanship which has inspired numerous typefaces in the Copperplate style. In contrast, the models from van den Velde, Heuvelman, and Jean de la Chambre, among others, are a missing chapter in Dutch typographic history, and had never been turned into typefaces until now. Conscious of the cultural and identity issues that arise in reviving a unique style, and concerned about the speed with which the lettering style was disappearing, Ramiro Espinoza focused the project of designing ‘Krul’ on digitally recreating the calligraphic complexity of these beautiful letters. Created through several years of research, ‘Krul’ is not a direct digitization of the Amsterdamse Krulletter, but instead, an interpretation that incorporates numerous alternative characters absent in the original model, and improves upon details where necessary, resulting in an optimal performance on the printed page. The typeface is presented in Open Type format, with an abundance of intricate ligatures, fleurons, and swashes, which permit the creation of numerous calligraphic effects. The very high contrast and rhythm of the strokes in this typeface make it especially suited for media applications conveying a sense of elegance and sophistication. Sheet music from the 1911 stage production of the comic opera “The Enchantress” featured the hand lettered names of both the star and composer in a monoline Art Nouveau style. This sans serif type design is now available as Theater Nouveau JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

In the 1904 book “Letters & Lettering” by Frank C. Brown is a page of Roman style upper case letters entitled “Modern American Capitals – after Will Brady”. The slab serif, Art-Nouveau-influenced alphabet inspired a digital version. Roman Nouveau JNL, is available in both regular and oblique versions.

A piece of vintage British sheet music from 1941 entitled “That Lovely Week-End” featured the song’s name in a bold Art Deco sans serif with rounded edges. This lettering design is now the digital type face Weekend Plans JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The movie poster for the 1937 film “Cafe Metropole” served as the basis for Outdoor Cafe JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. The extra bold, stylized letter forms with their rounded corners typify the wide variety of typographic styles the Art Deco period offered.

The common Slavic word Osnova means basis in English. This universal but still distinctive typeface can make a good foundation for any design project. There is the main Osnova version and separated faces Osnova Alt, Osnova Fancy and Osnova Small Caps for Western Latin, Greek and Cyrillic languages.

A 1929 German travel poster had the caption “Wer schlafwagen reist spart zdeit und geld” (“Whoever travels in a sleeping car saves time and money”) hand lettered in an Art Deco sans serif style. This is now available as Foreign Tourist JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Prose Sans is a wide sans serif font family that comes in 8 weights. With its slightly tilted axis and relatively high contrast strokes, it is both elegant and strong. The standard and discretionary ligatures help achieve a more tailored look, excellent for branding, logo design, poster design etc.

Bumper is the ideal ultra-black Sans Serif if you wanna make noise. The three widths could even be mixed in one single word, which creates a hand-made, edgy look. Bumper falls between glossy mags and poster art, and has a great effect when used for flyers.

Named for a Manhattan neighborhood, Morningside Heights JNL is based on lettering found on a 1920s-era piece of sheet music. Part of the charm of hand lettering from the Art Nouveau era is found in the non-standard line thicknesses, experimental character shapes and varying character widths.

The sheet music for the 1917 song "Wake Up Virginia (and Prepare for Your Wedding Day)" features a hand lettered title in a sans serif Art Nouveau design with stencil influences. This was the inspiration for Nouveau Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Art Deco monogram initials on a vintage business card from the Miami area inspired Golden Beach JNL. The font was named for a small upscale South Florida residential community located between Sunny Isles Beach in the Northern part of Miami-Dade County and Hallandale Beach in Southernmost Broward County.

Matisse's paper cutouts inspired Gail Blumberg, Adobe art director, to create a typeface of figures. Her biggest challenge: keeping each Cutout design in scale. It's not easy to make a standing figure, like 'Y,' to be the same size as a curled up figure, like 'G,'" Gail says."

Nadsat is a unicase display typefaces with a condensed, art deco styling. Best suited for short texts or display settings, the lowercase and capital letters can be combined to offer more layout possibilities. The typeface also includes a series of ligatures and alternate characters for even more layout options.
