Although geometric Sans Serifs have been in vogue for nearly a century, they have never been as ubiquitous. It is not improbable that the old adage would be phrased: “When in doubt, set it in geometric sans”, had it been composed today. Have we not had enough? We think, not. Postmodern times demand a variety of expressions. The vision behind Geometria was to revisit the perennial favorite to lend subtle individuality to its tried and true forms. Geometria stands out in the crowd of similar fonts thanks to its complicated nature. It combines dynamic elements with a certain degree of stability. A slightly higher waistline of the capitals contributes to their distinctive appearance. If the upper case refers to the American grotesques of the 19th century, the lower case tends toward the forms of the Renaissance in its proportions. Mister Earl, released by Bitstream in 1991, was designed by Jennifer Maestre. Inspiration came from a page in a ‘how-to’ book published in the 1930s. Later versions of Extra Light, Light and Bold were added by Jim Lyles, with the help of Wally Petty. Mister Earl is named in honor of Earl Biscoe, a Bitstream designer who retired in the mid-1980s because of illness. In the winter of 1994–1995, Richard Stetler accidentally left a copy of Mister Earl outside his Alaska home... In the spring, amazed to discover the unfortunate font was still just about alive, he decided to release the result to a wider public as Snow Cap.

Taking into consideration some complaints about lack of capital letters and deficiency of heavier weight styles, the Fermo typeface was redesigned to replace the existing font, dated 2002. New Fermo includes two subfamilies—Fermo TRF and Fermo-Uni TRF. Both fonts now consist of three weight styles—light, regular and bold—with significant contrast. During the updating process some minor glyph shape adjustments and changes have been made. Fermo TRF's main distinctions from the previous font are the new capital letters and additional weight (light) style. Fermo-Uni TRF is a unicase font with an additional lightweight style. Fermo is recommended for use as a display font. In large size settings negative tracking is recommended.

Donald DBXL Beekman lives on a ship in Amsterdam’s waters (well, the Amstel river, actually). Living on the water inspired him to design this ‘cruise ship’ typeface VLNL Decks. We've always liked Art Gothic (you've seen it on the titles and credits for TV's Murder She Wrote) but felt it was far too animated for most uses. Here is our super-simplified version, a calmer font that will fit many display uses.

Vocalist JNL is a bit of a novelty Art Deco typeface based on hand lettering from some 1940s sheet music. Using the classic "thick and thin" style of the day, a number of letters and numbers have wedges cut out of their designs.

A 1940s Australian song folio featuring tunes performed by singer-actress Deanna Durbin had her name hand lettered in an interesting Art Deco style sans. This became the basis for Song Folio JNL, capturing all the nuances of the original in digital form.
