  2. Meteora by Andinistas, $19.95
Meteora is a font designed for headlines by Carlos Fabian Camargo Guerrero. Its purpose is to be useful tool for solving decorative problems in graphic design which require broken letters without ascending and descending strokes. Due to its vertical and horizontal proportions these letters are compact, appealing and special to compose headlines and featured with worn look in covers, magazines, posters and advertising material. The first Meteora sketches were made by hand, photocopying and deforming letters of an old Letraset catalog, specifically from slab serif typefaces from the Nineteenth Century. Hence, uppers cases and lower cases were merged in the same height x, obtaining a narrow width, endings with some serifs and stencil cuts here and there. The amount of low contrast between thick and thin strokes brings strength and consistency with the contours apparently brokens. Thus, developed features slab serif and sans-serif proposing empty and full shapes connoting decomposition and noise; and from a rigorous process of scanning letters I set up damaged letters, but drawn with the greatest possible thoroughness and high definition in 438 glyphs per font. Finally, in regular and bold variables I included opentype features with some discretionary ligatures and a few titling alternates. In Meteora bold all glyphs are framed simulating the effect of letters cut out of paper.

Jugendstil Kunsthand is based on a sample of late 19th century lettering in a style often associated with artists of the Jugendstil Art Nouveau movement in Germany. The characters are done in heavy outline with a rough-hand drawn look. The style is interesting because it shows the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement on Art Nouveau with many of the characters featuring alternate versions that nest together in a manner typical of Arts & Crafts lettering.
  5. Pirulen by Typodermic, $11.95
In a future world where technology reigns supreme, communication must adapt to convey the cold and calculated efficiency of machines. Pirulen is the answer to this need. This hi-tech headliner is a futuristic marvel that transcends the limitations of traditional typography. Pirulen takes inspiration from the bold and daring style of 1930s Bank Gothic, but with a unique and revolutionary twist. It strips away any hint of warmth or humanity and replaces it with a cold and calculated design that perfectly captures the feeling of machines and technology. The result is a typeface that is both imposing and captivating. One of the most striking features of Pirulen is the lambda-style “Λ”, which adds to its already bold and robust appearance. This iconic symbol is a clear indicator of Pirulen’s futuristic design and sets it apart from other typefaces. And if you’re looking for even more variation, Pirulen offers barred “A” and accented variants that can be easily accessed through your application’s stylistic alternates function. With six different weights and italics, Pirulen is a versatile typeface that can adapt to any situation. Whether you’re creating sleek and modern designs or gritty and industrial ones, Pirulen can help you convey the cold and calculated efficiency of the future. 10. Prototype by Barnbrook Fonts, $30.00
Prototype is a typeface with a very contemporary identity crisis—is it old or new? uppercase or lowercase? serif or sans-serif? Prototype tries to be all things to all people. There have been many attempts at creating a universal typeface, one that rationalises the alphabet and removes the inconsistencies of upper and lower case, applying an unreasonable logic to something that has grown organically ...and is already perfectly usable! Prototype was the same experiment carried out at a time when design was experiencing an identity crisis of its own—letterforms that try to be all things to all people but end up being something else entirely.

We use an old hand juicer at home: a cheap plastic one that we bought a long time ago at a Swedish home appliances and furniture giant. We haven never considered upgrading to an electronic one, as it still works, it doesn’t use electricity and we don’t really use it that often. This font is called Juicer. It was not named after our manual juicer, or any juicer in particular. It was just a word that seemed to fit the font nicely. Juicer font is a handwritten, script-ish kinda font that comes in two great styles and contains a set of double letter ligatures.
  13. Legestue by Bogstav, $16.00
Legestue is danish and means playroom. But perhaps that translation is too direct. Legestue is a place where you can come with your kids and play with other kids. Kinda like a kindergarten, but in much smaller scale. I attended a Legestue when my kids were like 2 years old. But that's a looong time ago! I like the idea of just dropping by and see who's playing and who's around. And the same goes for this font - each letter is off and different, and quite playful. Also, the letters has a crunchy outline, which made me think of some of the cookies I ate at the Legestue :)
  14. Bangkokean by Cadson Demak, $29.00
This font was originally designed side by side with my first attempt at a semi serif typeface in 1997. The face is a traditional serif with narrow stem (somewhat like sans serif) and industrial stroke. A good mix of Bangkok character where you can find Wat (old buddhist temple) next to futuristic high rise. This font was shown in Klingspor-Museum Offenbach, Germany, at a Typographic & Type Design exhibition Schrift in Form 3-26 September 2008.
