The regular style of this family was inspired from the typeface used in Nuremberg, Germany, by Johannes Petreius in 1543 to print the famous “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium,” the well-known mathematical and astronomical essay by Nicolaus Copernicus. Petreius was also using an original italic style, as he did for the “De Sculptura” by Gaurico Pomponio, in 1542. Unfortunately, nobody seems to know who was the punchcutter of this Jenson-style font. Also included is a title file, containing initials (without diacritics) and small caps (with diacritics). In our three styles (Regular & Italic + Titling), font faces, kerning and spacing are as closely as possible identical to the original. This Pro font is covering Western, Eastern and Central European, Baltic and Turkish languages, with standard and long-s ligatures in regular and italic styles. Both have twin-letter ligatures, but the italic style has extra (genuine) ligatures for f and t with vowels.

Frederic W. Goudy designed three weights of this friendly-looking sans serif font from 1922-1929 for Lanston Monotype in the United States. Goudy was attempting to impart freedom and personality to the sans serif form at a time when geometric sans serifs, such as Futura, were gaining rapid world-wide popularity. To achieve this challenging goal, he looked to lapidary inscriptions and manuscript writing for inspiration. He included elements such as slight swellings of terminal strokes, slab serifs on a few of the caps, alternate uncial forms, and a few swash strokes. The result is uniquely Goudy: charming, instinctive, and just right for adding warmth to magazine or advertising layouts. When the right late seventies / early eighties message is needed, Toisy comes to the rescue. Founded on a mix of references from letterforms of the time, this new original nods to a style that defined an era. A sexy theme font that conveys a clear image of what was truly chic thirty years ago, this alphabet is deeply rooted in sultry memories of soft, endless nights. Exaggerate contrast between strokes and angular lines combine with rounded corners to provide a unique character and a look that sharply differs when set in all caps or lower case, thanks to an uncommon treatment of density and proportions. CAPITALIZED, geometric, bold and round. If the typo­grapher sees a font like that, it's enough to make his toes curl. But sometimes it just has to be that way. Geometrically constructed fonts do not necessarily have to be pointed and angular; It also works consistently around. And if I say it consistently, then in this case, that's done consistently. The basis for the BOULE is the circle. The letters are drawn with constant line width, the “corners“ and endings all have the same radius, the lines are all the same thickness. The BOULE consists only of capitals. There is only one difference in the use of uppercase and lowercase letters: in the uppercase letters, the round letters are circular, while the lowercase letters are narrow. The character set of the Boule contains all letters and accents to support the Western, Northern, Central and Eastern European languages with Latin alphabet. The BOULE is not only very fat, it also runs very tight; that is, the glyphs are very close to each other. To avoid "holes" due to unfortunate letter combinations, the BOULE contains ligatures for FT, ST, TT and TZ. There are also other versions of the font: BOULE Brillant on the one hand. In this version, simple highlights simulate a light incidence from the top right. These light edges give the font a decorative effect that makes it easy to think of wet sausages or balloons in some shapes. And finally the BOULE Contour. As the name implies, it is the outer contour of the letters, combined with a shadow at the bottom left. The name BOULE (French for ball) says it already: this font is globated. Therefore, it is also very suitable for all three-dimensional alienation effects. With simple light and shadow you can achieve a very convincing 3D effect with little effort.

One of my dreams as a type-designer was making a good looking chancery cursive. Full of life, like some of the best calligraphers around the world do on their artworks. With Julian Waters, John Stevens and Denis Brown (just to name a few of them) (1) chancery, or italic script, was transformed into a new, exciting and very fresh style of calligraphy mainly at the end of 20th Century. Dream Script may be that dream named above made true. I have been practicing chancery in the way I learnt from those calligraphers for many years now. Making a font out of my ink-sketches was a tough work, since they were closer of -being art- than of -being type-. However, this font rescues many aspects of handmade calligraphy: You have to look at it really close to notice it is actually a font, and that was one of my goals. The secret of a good looking chancery is on its subtle details: pen angle is constantly changing, even on the strokes which seem straight. Capitals and swashes have to be done a little faster than lowercase letters. The rhythm has to be even, in spite of its playful look. The fact that makes Dream look alive is that it has many alternates per glyph. This makes each word look unique like it happens in calligraphy: you will find alternates for the beginning/ending of a word/phrase, some for the middle of it, some interchangeable. Also, to accompany the script, you will find Dream Caps, which was inspired in the eternally beautiful trajan capitals. Place them like I did on the posters and you will have great results for sure. The font works great in small, middle and big sizes and can be a great selection for magazines, wedding invitations, perfumes, and posters. Close your eyes, and Dream with me... TECHNICAL Dream Script Pro is the most complete style, it contains all the alternates and ligatures (OT programmed, better if you use Adobe applications) If you plan to use the font for text, be sure to activate the less decorative capitals, which are placed in the “salt” group of alternates. Grava is Neil Summerour’s injection of warmth within the geometric sans font category. Historically, geometric sans families have been based on primal shapes — triangle, circle, square — and the more closely they held to those rigid rules, the more internal inconsistencies they showed. Angles won’t match up correctly, letters will lean, overshoots complicate clean typesetting, and idealized circles become grotesque and unwieldy in some weights. Because of issues like these, geometric sans fonts have a reputation of being cold, austere, even a bit “off”. Grava was made to hold a T-square and triangle in one hand while giving a welcoming handshake with the other. Magazin ST is powerful but delicate. What fascinated me seeing, a couple of letters, in Bob Roy Kelly's book (American Wood Type:1828-1900) were the little squares in the corners that represent a glow from lighting coming from below and from the right. Such ambiguity excited me and I thought that today with digital resources it wouldn't take long to do it. Seeing it working is excellent. Look In the posters what it is for and the effects it produces, including the sensation of relief.- L.S.

I have always loved gazing at the stars. Too bad that you don’t get to see a true starry night these days - mostly because of light pollution. Starlight Lovers is a messy serif. It is hand painted, using a brush and Chinese ink, so the edges may be a bit rough. In my opinion, this adds to the font’s character! M Banquet is a humanistic script written by a Chinese restaurant owner, which the name ‘Banquet’ comes from. It is a calligraphic style that always being seen in traditional Chinese banquet menu. Refresh was inspired and partly based on handwritten text from advertisements for a popular cola-based soft drink from the 1950s. I designed the missing characters in the handwriting style of the original. The Refresh family comes in three styles: - Lite- possibly the most elegant of the three styles -- use at larger sizes for greater legibility; - Med -of intermediate weight - more legible than Lite; - Blak - for bolder statements and best readabilty.
