Aphrosine is a font based on pointed pen script. A huge lot of alternatives and smart OpenType features allow it to look almost indistinguishable from real live handwriting. Aphrosine is something between handwriting and calligraphy: it took too much effort for being “just handwriting” but lacks seriousness and regularity comparing to true calligraphic fonts. That’s why it was called after a peculiar character from a children’s book: a witch who was very fond of dressing, makeup and writing letters. Aphrosine has three faces. But unlike most other type families, the glyphs from one face do not match exactly the glyphs from another one. The faces are based on writing with different nibs but by the same hand. The type is designed by Alexandra Korolkova and Alexander Lubovenko and released by ParaType in 2015.

Every time I bring my youngest son to his swimming lessons, I need to show my Covid Vaccination Pass; a QR code on my phone. I thought that I would be off the hook after I showed it the first time, but no, not at the swimming pool! It feels a bit like a bad comic book, so I decided to name this comic book style font Identity Check. Of course, I should have called it Covid Vaccination Check, but that is just too much and it probably won’t sell. Who wants a font called Covid?? ;-) Identity Check is a comic book style font. The glyphs are wider than I am used to (it seems I AM capable of learning new tricks), but the effect is rather nice. Wasty Pudding was made by drawing a lot of letters, over and over again - and not caring so much about the looks, but focusing more on the speed of drawing, because I wanted a font that represented the way I write, when I am taking notes for myself. Hauser Script is a freely drawn brush script typeface, which was designed in 1936 by George Hauser for Ludlow. The Confetti is a typeface created about 1930 by the defunct José Iranzo foundry in Barcelona, and imitates the forms and gestures of handwriting created with a round nib as “Speedball”Series B. The original typefaces were a pair, called “Escritura Energica ” and “Escritura maravilla”. The typography has a dynamic air, caused partially by irregular alignment of the characters respect to the baseline and aesthetics takes us to the proposed commercial lettering or advertising of years 20-30. Confetti was one of the fonts selected by the website Typographica.org in its prestigious list of “Our Favorite Typefaces” in 2006.
