Éric de Berranger likes to multitask, and often works on two typeface families at once. Such was the case with Mosquito, a jaunty sans that was developed at the same time he was creating the more traditional Maxime. Mosquito represented a sort of recreation," says de Berranger. "When I grew tired of working on one design I could work on the other and then come back to the first, full of courage and desire!" Mosquito is built from simple, straightforward shapes, but its distinctive stroke terminals and slight oblique weight stress distinguish the design from more conventional sans serif faces. The relatively large x-height and open counters add to the legibility of the design. The capitals are straightforward (with just a hint of Peignot), while the lowercase has a softer, more inviting demeanor. "I drew Mosquito with the hope that it would be pleasant to look at and to read," says de Berranger. "I think the end result is almost feminine." Mosquito comes in three weights, with complementary italic designs and a suite of small caps, old style figures and alternate characters."

Kano is inspired by the work of Dutch furniture designer and architect Gerrit Rietveld, one of the principal members of the Dutch artistic movement De Stijl. A modular headline font, constructed from white, black and grey overlapping rectangles, it is seen to best effect in short settings and at larger sizes.

Take Charge JNL is based on the opening title card for the 1936 film "The Charge of the Light Brigade" starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, Donald Crisp and David Niven. The typeface is a simple, bold titling font with the slight feel of Art Deco influence in its design.

This family was inspired from the set of fontfaces used by Francisco Del Hierro, to print in 1726 the first Spanish language Dictionary from the Spanish Royal Academy (Real Academia Española, Diccionario de Autoridades). These two Transitional styles are said to have been the first set of official typeface in Spain, like the French “Reale” (take a look at our "[/fonts/glc/1790-royal-printing/ 1790 Royale Printing)". In our two styles (Regular & Italic), fontfaces, kernings and spaces are as closely as possible the same as in the original. This Pro font is covering Western, Eastern and Central European, Baltic and Turkish languages, with standard and “s long” ligatures and twin letters in each of the two styles and a few Italic swashes inspired from the font used in 1746 by the same printer for another edition from the Royal Academy.

Adolf Rusch von Ingweiler, was in the 19 th century known mysteriously as the “R'' printer. He was the first printer North of the Alps to introduce the new Roman style of type known now as Antiqua. He was active in the city of Strasbourg from around the early 1460's to 1489. One wonders if the unusual form of “R'' was a personal conceit. This font is, therefore, an Antiqua style font and has over a 1000 defined glyphs with wide support for medieval characters that have since fallen out of use. The baseline was slightly tidied up in order to give the printed text an even cleaner look than the original. The letters are very close approximations of the original type catalogued by the “Veröffentlichungen der Gesellschaft für Typenkunde des 15. Jahrhunderts” as Typ.1:103R GfT1197.

One good pun is worth a simple description… Nondescript JNL… 'Non' - not. 'de' - of, in Spanish. script - a cursive (handwritten) letter form. So… while nondescript generally means lacking any defining description, in this case it also means "not of a script"… which is precisely what a typeface such as this one is!

Hudson NY is a display font that gives you strong and bold typography with three different styles that make up the family, a regular, serif and slab serif. Hudson NY is an adaptation and progression of Roper Font, and like Roper font it comes in regular and a press versions, giving the user some cool options when creating artwork. Tucked inside the November 5, 1927 issue of a German signpainters' trade paper was a single sheet headed Der Schilder und Schriftenmaler, which featured an alphabet called "Neue Fraktur". An exuberant (if somewhat unconventional) combination of Art Deco sensibilities and blackletter forms, the font retains its freshness, even today. Included in this version are Deco bishops fingers at the bar and broken bar positions, and a styling, horn-blowing herald at ASCII circumflex and tilde positions. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin and 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan) character sets.

Lenga is a kind of beech originally from South America. The explorers who discovered this beech in Tierra del Fuego, thought it looked like a tree from their home country and named it 'Lenga'. Like many of southern hemisphere beeches, the Lenga beech is fast growing and hardy, making it an ideal timber tree. It regenerates easily after fires. The wood has good quality, moderate durable, and easy to work. The Lenga fonts were inspired in the nobility, robustness and flexibility of those trees. They have a distinctive personality within contemporary atmosphere. These fonts are quite appropriate for headlines, subheadings and with its text flow works very well for long texts. Their legibility is suitable for editorial purposes mainly in newspapers and magazines. Lenga comes in 16 styles carefully done in OpenType format. Motley Crew is my last font for 2016. It is quite a lively, quirky and a little bit scary typeface, which will give your designs a little more ‘joie de vivre’. It was made with a soft brush and Chinese ink. The splatter was added after I had painted the glyphs. I forgot to put away my laptop, which now looks like this font… Motley Crew wishes you all the best for the coming year - in a lot of languages, as it comes with a generous splatter of diacritics.

Aardvark Dreams… Yes, I guess this is the first font ever to have an aardvark in its name! Aardvark Dreams is a bit of an unusual font. It is didone-ish in style, but the glyphs are slightly warped, giving them an almost liquid appearance. The Vark is a cute font for children’s books, games, posters and artwork. It could also work on psychedelic record-sleeves, but I guess they don’t make ‘em no more. Aardvark Dreams comes with a bunch of ligatures and a whole lotta diacritics!
