A former lettering artist at Hallmark Cards, Rob Leuschke now has his own thriving design businesses, Alphabytes and the new TypeSETit. Growing up in St Charles, Missouri, where he still lives, Rob showed great artistic promise at an early age. He earned a BFA in graphic design at the University of Missouri at Columbia. After graduation, his stint at Hallmark Cards gave him the opportunity to learn from and work with some of the best lettering artists in the industry. Rob struck out on his own in 1987 and now boasts a long list of clients from all over the world. Rob has created over 250 custom typefaces, and his work has been exhibited in New York. Ambiance BT is Rob’s first typeface published by Bitstream, with more to follow.

Architype Albers draws on early grid-based attempts by Josef Albers, in 1926, to design an alphabet by reducing the forms to purely geometric elements – the square, triangle and parts of a circle – and in the process creating an unusual stencil effect typeface.

Designed by Hans Samuelson in 2023. With two weights and many variations Klip Klop offers a large set of characters for playful lettering. The flavouring is strong avant garde and the build is strict geometrical with even stroke thickness throughout. One unusual feature is that the bottom and top horizontal strokes are centered on the baseline and capital height. This renders the same optical size between the thin and the medium but different actual heights and baselines. Use it for Headlines or signage in any medium! Klip Klop!

The family tree of this friendly face runs deep. Its primary inspiration is Twentieth Century, designed by Saul Hess as a monoline version of Paul Renner’s Futura. The design was reinterpreted by Herb Lubalin as Avant Garde in the 1970s. This version softens the harsh geometry of the original designs with rounded line endings: the result is a warm, inviting face that is elegant, confident and inviting. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

Although the Art Deco movement is generally attributed to the 1930s and 1940s, a number of design influences were showing up during the late 1920s in what is referred to as the Art Nouveau period. The Dutch illustrator Anton Kurvers’ hand lettering on the front cover of the (1927) magazine “Het Vlaamsche Volstooneel” clearly shows the clean lines and Avant Garde geometrics that foreshadow Art Deco. This attractive pre-Deco lettering has been recreated digitally as Dutch Deco JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

In the advertising industry, I was often asked to supply the art directors with ideas for a san serif type design that was not the standard Helvetica or Univers. They wanted a fresh new approach, something with generous proportion, like Avant Garde perhaps, but not as uniform in proportions. A font that would lend itself well to wide and long columns of text with lots of leading. So, I rolled up my sleeves and designed a font that meet all their criteria. Contax is the new 'Univers' for the 21st century.

Giambattista Bodoni was an Italian engraver, printer, and publisher who was one of the best typographers of the 18th century and became known worldwide for his iconic serif typeface. In the posthumous edition of Bodoni’s “Manual of Typography” published in 1818 by his widow Margherita “Ghitta” Dall’Aglio may also be found, among the other treasures, the Cancellaresca (Chancery). Ghitta is a redesign of this typeface in its finest form. Siberian is a geometric unicase sans-serif. It was inspired by Russian avant-garde typography and old Siberian runic scripts (Orkhon-Yenisey script). The idea was to create a typeface so simple, cold and beautiful as the snow in Siberia. And varied of course, as the snow too (according to a legend snow has more than 100 names in the north Siberian people’s language). So, every letter in this typeface has 7 stylistic alternates. And you can choose how cold your typography should be today. Siberian was initially designed for the I'm Siberian project (the tourist branding of Siberia).

Jim Wasco, who was aided by George Ryan in the production of the typeface family, began the design of Harmonia Sans with a single goal in mind. "I wanted to create a simple and legible typeface by pulling the best aspects of classic geometric sans designs, such as Futura and ITC Avant Garde Gothic," Wasco explained.
