Linotype Sangue is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This prize-winning font was designed by the German artist Gabriele Laubinger. The most distinguishing characteristic of Linotype Sangue is the contrast between the wide, rounded capital letters and the tall, narrow and pointed lower case. Another factor which makes this font so unique is the way Laubinger worked with stroke contrasts, using heavy strokes in the top third of the characters and diminishing to extremely light strokes at the bottom. Linotype Sangue makes a mysterious, secretive impression. It is best used for headlines and displays and shorters texts with point sizes of 12 and larger.

Gardner Sans is a humanist sans serif with a range of weights, italics, small caps stylistics alternates and a set of decorative ornaments. The light and regular faces work at smaller sizes and the heavier weights are good for display lettering. It is inspired by a few historical sources including Stephenson Blakes' Granby, Gill Sans, as well as some old hand-done lettering for sales tickets. The name (and the basis for the small caps) derives in-particular from the Roy Gardner collection of sales tickets from early 20th century that can be found on spitalfieldslife.com The heavier weights were particularly influenced by a later cut of Gill Sans, Extra Bold 321. The italic is more of a contemporary mix of humanist styles.

Steelplate Gothic Pro is a sans serif font family with traditional and drop shadow weights. It shares letterform similarities to conventional Copperplate Gothic families, but has no spur serif endings. Most of the original designs came from the Western Type Foundry when BB&S acquired it in 1918; all were cut by Robert Wiebking. It was recast in 1954 by American Type Founders (ATF). Steve Jackaman (ITF) designed and produced a digital version of the original single weight in 1997. In 2017, Jackaman completely redrew and expanded the family, adding entirely new condensed variants and true small caps. Steelplate Gothic Pro has a masculine, industrial feel, and works effortlessly at display and subhead sizes. It shares letterforms with its sans serif sister family, Barnsley Gothic.

The origin of Ruskin was a commission for Michael Harvey to design a signage font for the Dean Gallery in Edinburgh. The style of the letterforms was to complement the period of the building which was originally an orphanage built in 1839. Only uppercase letters were created at first with the lowercase letters—and other characters necessary for a font—added later. With elegant and slightly extended letterforms, Ruskin fulfilled its rôle well as a signage font. It also functioned extremely well as a general display font. It is particularly suited to item descriptions and placards in galleries and museums which are frequently read from an angle, as well as head-on. The fonts have both proportionally and monospaced numerals.

Bitstream Cooper was designed at Bitstream in 1986 by means of adding light, medium, and bold styles, with the corresponding italics, to the existing black ones. Based on Cooper Black, 1919, by Oswald Bruce Cooper, which was firstly released as a hand composition font in 1922 by Barnhart Brothers & Spindler of Chicago and later spread by ATF. Cooper Black is an extra bold face based on Cooper Old Style. Bitstream Cooper is an old style face with rounded serifs and tilted back ovals. For use both in text (normal weights) and in advertising and display typography (heavy weights). Cyrillic version was developed for ParaType in 2000 by Manvel Shmavonyan and based on TM Oswald face of TypeMarket, 1996, by Victoria Grigorenko.

The first version of Kremlin was designed at ParaType (ParaGraph) in 1995 by Tagir Safayev. Based on an informal handwriting. Kremlin is a Russian word for a fortress or a citadel. The reason why the author selected this word for the font name is not quite clear even for him. Probably the appearance of the text line set in this font resembled a tight fence. Later the font was expanded in character set and got two style variations with extended proportions. The suffix "Pro" in the name was added to distinguish the new version from the previous one. The derivative work was done by Dmitry Kirsanov and Gennady Fridman in 2010. The font is recommended for advertising and display typography.

Ingram BT might be described as Deco, or Arts & Crafts, in style. Created by Alex Marshall, it is a very condensed design with high-waisted uppercase glyphs that feature dots rather than straight lines for the middle hairlines. There are two sets of alternate glyphs accessible via stylistic and contextual OpenType features. The contextual alternates offer the most interesting glyph substitutions. There are also oldstyle and tabular figures, superiors and inferiors, as well as unlimited fractions. Ingram is a very handsome, casual typeface, with a slightly rough finish. Crewekerne is a typeface family which speaks of the villages that are at the heart of English life. It is inspired by the arts and crafts movement of the early twentieth century, and is complimented by two other families, Crewekerne Magna and Crewekerne Magister. Three widths - condensed, regular and expanded and three weights - regular bold and heavy are offered. Crewekerne is especially good when combined with its two complimentary families and when used in poster and design work that needs a rustic hand crafted flair but still needs to be easily legible. Zoelander is an experimental geometric font. The distinctive feature of this font is having an irregular x-height. This will look unusual, but if you are looking for something unique and looks different, Zoelander can be an alternative to making an attractive typography. One of the earliest Monotype faces, issued about 1906 in two weights, normal and semibold. Based on Schelter & Giesecke's School Fraktur which was in turn based on type favored by early 16th century printers in Wittenberg. It was the door of the Schlosskirche in Wittenberg on which Luther nailed his 95 theses. For this reason, types similar to Wittenberger Fraktur are particularly associated with Lutheran theology. There are two s versions in the DFR-layout. They enable you to typeset the old way, where the long s with the form like an f is used in the beginning and middle of a syllable or word and the typical round s, also called final s, is used at the end of syllable and end of words.

Probably everyone living in Europe has heard of the (in)famous Route Du Soleil. The Route Du Soleil (Motorway Of The Sun) is a stretch of road from Paris to Lyon (in the south). It is THE route holiday makers take to reach southern France, so they can get there before everyone else does. The result: endless traffic jams, overheated engines and people and more toxic exhaust fumes than your average petroleum distillery. Route Du Soleil is also a very nice hand written font that comes with swashes and ligatures. If you happen to find yourself in a traffic jam on your way to southern France, then I hope you have downloaded this font. Just one look at it and you’ll forget your problems! ;-)

In 1805, December second, the Napoleonic French army won the famous battle of Austerlitz, against Autrichian and Russian armies. Napoleon was a great general, but his hand-writing was not legible at all, so he employed a few secretaries who wrote the official mail. This font was created, inspired from letters written by one of these professional secretaries and scribes in the months before the battle. We propose it as a typical example of the French Hand from this period. The font contains numerous ligatures and alternative characters so as to look as close as possible to real handwriting. The standard full set is complete with accented or specific characters for West (Including Celtic) and Central European, Baltic, Romanian, Hungarian and Turkish languages.

This historic revival font was created especially for use in the preservation and restoration of the 1916 silent film “The Good Bad Man,” starring Douglas Fairbanks. There is only one copy of the original film print in existence, and when the film was restored for a screening at the San Francisco Film Festival in 2014 the new font was created to best recreate the intent of the original lettering in the film. It is a smooth and pleasant vintage lettering style, originally designed for use on silver screens, now fully rendered in OpenType and ready for you to use in your designs or web pages today. Analogia is a digital interpretation of types used in the mid-18th century in books printed at Leuven by Martin van Overbeke. It is intended primarily for use in running text. The roman is businesslike, yet with a distinct personality; it has a generous x-height and is slightly condensed, though without appearing cramped. It is complemented by a more lively italic, which retains some irregularities in the angle of slant that are characteristic of the original. Analogia provides wide support for west, central, and east European languages that use the roman alphabet. Among its OpenType features are ligatures, small caps, several sets of numerals, contextual alternates, intelligent implementation of long ‘s’, and fractions. Fontology-E is an experimental font designed by Fabrizio Schiavi. It was created for the cover of the Fontology catalogue. Schiavi's need was to build an optical false modulation effect with versions of the logotype and typical rectangles of an empty font chart. The basic idea was to create a page that contained many rectangles in order to demonstrate the modulation. At the same time, it was important to understand that Schiavi inserted 8 versions of the same logotype each time the corresponding letter is digitized in e, a, d, f, g, h, c and b. The inside of the catalogue has the same layout and text, which is revealed by fanning the pages. Schiavi confess that Fontology-E is a highly experimental typefont.

Zona Pro is a geometric sans-serif type family of 8 styles plus matching italics, designed by Kostas Bartsokas in 2013/14. It draws inspiration from 1920’s geometric style faces, having clean and highly readable shapes, and mixes it up in the heavier weights with a slight variance in the stroke widths, lending it a grotesque-ish unique and distinctive look. Zona Pro is multifunctional and versatile. With its modern yet elegant form it performs amazingly in display sizes and headlines. Geogrotesque Stencil is a member of the popular Geogrotesque family, and despite being thought as a display typeface, it goes one step further and tries to solve some of the typical problems with stencils fonts. Geogrotesque Stencil comes with 3 widths of cut (A, B and C). These cuts not only allow a better performance when printing at different sizes, you can also move across versions A, B or C in accordance to the rigidity of the material used. The family consists of 42 styles, 7 weights with 3 versions each plus italics, all of them in Open Type format including ligatures, tabular figures, fractions, numerators, denominators, superiors and inferiors with support for Central and Eastern European languages. A comprehensive and faithful rendition of Rudolf Koch’s first release, usually referred to as “Fette Deutsche Schrift” or "Koch-Schrift". In addition to the regular character set, the font includes a large number of alternates and ligatures, plus two sets of ornamental initials (Initialen mit Zierstrichen und Punkten zur Koch-Schrift, and Initialen zur halbfetten deutschen Schrift von Rudolf Koch). The main sources used during the font design process were a sample page from Hendlmeier, W. (1994), Kunstwerke der Schrift, Hannover: Bund für Deutsche Schrift und Sprache (p. 164), and several specimen sheets from the Gebrüder Klingspor Type Foundry for Koch’s “Deutsche Schrift” type family. Newspeak is a display typeface based upon Soviet architectural forms from the Stalinist period (spanning the 1930s—'50s). Stalinist architecture is now considered unsightly and without aesthetic merit, yet it has a strange beauty, hinting at an unrealised utopia (while its function was to buttress a brutal dictatorship). Inspiration was also drawn from the Cyrillic alphabet which, to kids growing up in Western Europe in the '70s and '80s, was a cipher for an alternative way of living – Cyrillic letterforms represented the exotic, familiarity-twice-removed universe of Eastern Bloc states. When you visited a communist country you were confronted with unfamiliar typography that reinforced your sense of alienation and unease that there existed a real, if imperfect, working alternative to consumerism.

In spite of its name, this font family embodies the ultimate classic modern advertising typeface, rather than concern itself with revivalism or Didone authenticity. Naturally the spirit of the original Didot faces still exists in this family, but over twelve years of work on it have made it more fitting to the luxurious expression of our day and age, rather than nineteenth century Europe. Upscale and stylish, Didot Display is an essential tool for any designer involved in magazines, books, tasteful music, or overall luxury packaging that requires clean and large classic typography with an unmistakable modern spin. Designed at ParaType in 1989 by Alexander Tarbeev. A modern replica of the typeface by Giambattista Bodoni, the Italian punchcutter and typographer of the late 18th century. Bodoni was a director of printing house of Duke of Parma in Italy. His early types were based on those of Fournier and Didot, but he developed the designs to become what are now considered to be the first modern typefaces. His letters have strong vertical stress, sharply contrasting thick and thin strokes and unbracketed hairline serifs. The contrast of thick and thin in Bodoni typefaces can produce a sparkling effect on a page: should be carefully used in texts; good for headlines and display. Condensed and decorative styles were added in 1993–97.

This time I touched another classic manuscript for my font. The Lindisfarne Gospels is an illuminated manuscript probably produced around the years 715–720 in the monastery at Lindisfarne, off the coast of Northumberland. It’s the work of a monk named Eadfrith. He was a highly trained calligrapher, and he used insular majuscule script in the manuscript. 'Euclid. A New Type,' originally designed in the 1930s by modern American designer Alvin Lustig (1915-1955), has been revived as 'Lustig Elements' through a collaboration of designers Craig Welsh and Elaine Lustig Cohen. Only twelve letterforms from the original font design had been retained in archive material in the many decades since its initial development. Lustig Elements combines four simple, geometric shapes aligned to an underlying grid with letterform designs that hold true to the spirit of the original font. Lustig Elements initially came to life in 2015 as wood type cut at Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum. The digital version expands on the basic character set with a pro expanded latin character set, small caps and even an Inline variation.
