Made in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland), hyperpolar is born while the designer (Bisou) watches "Godard mon amour", a biopic about Jean-Luc Godard's depression in 1967-68. A parade of murder mystery books is staged at the middle of the movie and at exactly 56 minutes and 47 seconds, the book "Confrontation" strikes Bisou's eye. It is the first inspiration for this awsome retro font. Hyperpolar is thought from ground up to give a strong impact. It’s retro 50’s crime stories style makes it best suitable book covers. It works perfectly with short texts for advertisement like a trench coat or a smoking pipe store. Just hang it over a video club and see what thrilling cinephiles will come in.

Compact sans, ideal for setting long texts in small or very small type sizes: for packaging, instruction booklets, drug information leaflets and anything else that has to be legible at very small sizes. Lean and rhythmical, designed ideally to be used at less than 8 points (Brevier was the old typefounders’ name for 8-point type), Brevier holds up well even under adverse printing conditions. The apparently geometric letterforms hide Renaissance characteristics, the x-height and openings are very generous and the strokes slightly modulated. In order to offset ink spread – which is inevitable when printing very small sizes of type – Brevier has large white spaces between the letters. All internal angles have deep ink traps and many connections have been left open.

My first font for 2009 was Aerle. It is a new dark sans serif font in my continuing objective of designing book fonts that I can really use. It made a little ripple in the industry, but more than that I found that I loved it with Aramus and Artimas — my latest book font family with the same proportions. In many ways, Aerle is a very different direction for me built on what I have learned on Aramus and other recent developments in my style. The concept came to me while using Bitstream's Mister Earl on a site online—though there is no direct reference. I wanted a more playful heavy sans with a much smaller x-height than I have been using lately, plus taller ascenders. As I was using Aerle, I constantly needed a light and bold version. The new direction I am taking is a result of a decision that my fonts, though I loved the character shapes, produced an even type color that is too dark or a little dense. Aerle was an attempt to get away from that look even though the letterspacing is quite tight. For Aerle Thin I pushed a little further in that direction and increased the letterspacing. The hand-drawn shapes vary a lot, many pushing the boundaries of the normal character. This gives a little looseness and helps the lightness in feel I am looking for. It will be interesting to see where this all goes. Most new type around the world is far too perfect for my taste. While the shapes are exquisite, the feel is not human but digital mechanical. I find myself wanting to draw fonts that feel human — as if a person crafted them. In most ways this is a normal font for me in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. These small caps were very small (x-height as is proper). So Aerle's small caps are a little oversize because they plugged up too bad at x-height size. The bold is halfway between. These size variations seem important and work well in the text. This font has all the OpenType features in the set for 2009. There are several ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg sh sp st ch ck ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more. Like all of my fonts, there are: caps, lowercase, & small caps; proportional lining figures, proportional oldstyle figures, & small cap figures; plus numerators, denominators, superiors, inferiors, and a complete set of ordinals 1st through infinity. Doorkick is my grungy handmade font with rough lines and a squarish look. Each letter has 5 different versions, which automatically cycles as you type - leaving your text with a super lively and natural/organic look. I'd say that Doorkick is best for short words or shoutouts, but try it out it massive text too! I dare you! :)

I made Paper Sting using an inky pen. There is a great variation in the stroke width, which gives a very lively handmade feeling. Paper Sting comes in two versions: Regular and Stencil - mix them for cool realistic results. Of course there is multi-lingual support as well as contextual alternates, which means 5 different versions of each letter.

The Nov. 13, 1915 and Nov. 27, 1915 issues of Moving Picture World carried ads for Jesse L. Lasky Productions in which the titles of the upcoming films were hand lettered in an elegant Art Nouveau spurred serif style. This stylish alphabet is now available digitally as Movie Producer JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Christmas Doodles Too is the follow up font to Christmas Doodles. Epiphany is an elegant serif with wide proportions and an unusual stencil effect. This communicates honesty with an understated refinement. Suitable for headlines and shorter paragraphs of text. The design uses several repeated forms that give it a forward-moving rhythm, for example the small ‘flicks’ on the lower-case letters and the tails on g and y.

The agressive moves, the lateral spurs and the heavy leaf endings of Trochera resemble the silvan plants behavior giving it a very expressive and festive personality. Its features make Trochera very useful for flamboyant and colorful purposes, but it is also attractive in black and white, the saturation of the ornaments will give an appealing texture to headings.

Reading is fun; legible with a playful wiggle, a bit of texture, and a lively set of double-letter ligatures. Reading wants to be read aloud and sounded out - lightened by comic relief and sweetened by a bit of style. The upper case is relatively straight, the lower case - slightly jumbled, and Reading’s numbers have excellent curls.

Dance Lesson JNL is a reinterpretation of the popular "Latin Bold" typeface. The font's name is a reference to the Latin dance craze of the 1950s, when the Cha-Cha, Meringue, Tango, Mambo and even the "Chalypso" - a hybrid of Cha-Cha and Calypso rhythms had everyone moving to the beat of Central and South America.

McCadden JNL was inspired by the hand-lettered credits for the George Burns and Gracie Allen Show [1950-1958]. Its casual theme offers a lighthearted approach to titling and display work. The font gets its name from McCadden Productions (the company started by George Burns), which itself was named after a street Burns' brother William once lived on.
