At first glance, Typewriter Sans JNL seems to look like the pantograph lettering of an engraved sign or the rounded-end lettering from an architect's templates. It might also be mistaken for plastic pin-back lettering used on some bulletin boards. In actuality, the design is based on examples of an electric typewriter ball element with a sans font named "Dual Gothic", suggested for use "in credit reports and other financial applications".

Casablanca is a decorative sans serif font family. It was designed and produced in 1997 by Steve Jackaman (International TypeFounders). Jackaman loosely based the designs on the Carlos Winkow typeface ‘Electra’ from the Spanish foundry, Nacional, circa early 1940’s. Casablanca has a clean, Art Deco, jazz, and/or noir film feel. It sets nicely at any size, and brings an air of bold mystery to the projects it is applied in.

Dom Casual is a very condensed script, almost monotone, with irregular vertical strokes ending at different heights, and which suggests a freehand effect. It was designed by Pete Dom in 1951 for American Type Founders. As its name suggests, the Dom Casual font gives the appearance of a quick brush-like lettering and is suitable for setting titles, subheadings and short copy. There is some variations of stress in the rounded letters.

Vulnerable is an elegant script typeface inspired by a vintage type specimen I found some time ago at an art fair. Thin to thick contrasting lines and elegant curves make Beginta the perfect font for this type of logo and display purposes. Dunelm is a typeface that was inspired by the type used in an English book from 1636. The typeface used in the book was unique and the goal in creating this font was to emulate the printing feel of the 17th century. The authentic ink-blotted and imperfect feel of the letter-pressed type was preserved with care. For best effect, this font should be used at text and smaller title sizes.

Aplomb was designed to fill the "contemporary fantasy" niche, hinting at Celtic magic overlaying a solid, legible contemporary font. Aplomb is intended for book covers, movie posters and advertisements, DVD covers, magazine pages, fantasy comic pages, in fact wherever contemporary and fantasy meet! The font comes in two styles - smallcaps and regular. Aplomb is fully professional, carefully letterspaced and kerned. Rockzane is a classic stylish font inspired by basic concept of bold serif letters. It looks amazing at display sizes and is easily readable in text size. Rockzane comes with OpenType features, stylistic alternate character for uppercase (A-Z) and Small Caps. This is a display font made mainly for headlines, branding, logotypes, titles, and other short texts and is well-suited for advertising, packaging, titles, editorial design and classic style design.

Kandij is a Dutch word and it means ‘Rock Sugar’. We Dutch use it in a lot of products, from ‘ontbijtkoek’ (a rye based spiced cake we sometimes eat for breakfast) to Fryske Sûkerbôle, A Frisian sweet bread. Kandij is a fat and happy font. I’d probably use it for any book or product aimed at children, as it has a certain lumpy cuteness. Comes with diacritics and swashes for the upper case letters.

Nexus (2004) consists of 3 matching variants – a serif, a sans and a slab – which makes it a highly versatile typeface. There is also a monospaced version called Nexus Typewriter. The Nexus family is a workhorse typeface with extensive OpenType features. Free bonus: there are more than 100 elegant Swash italics and dozens of arrows and other icons. Nexus was awarded the First Prize at the Creative Review Type Design Awards 2006.

Twista is a typeface from the realm of impossible constructions, from letters of illusions, the world of M.C. Escher. Linotype Boundaround is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests from 1994 and 1997. German artist Christina Sachse gave her font a mystical feel. The vertical strokes meet the base line at a point and the strokes vary in their width. The lively Linotype Boundaround is suitable for shorter texts in point sizes 12 or larger and for headlines in larger point sizes.

Peapod Regular is all-cap and all about hand-drawn patterns. Each letter has two pattern options easily available in upper/lower places and is designed to be used with Peapod Solid for color changing ease. Peapod is inspired by the publishing tradition of an ornate initial at the beginning of a fairytale, but why resist the fun of putting pattern everywhere... Scriptease is the temperamental creation of Phill Grimshaw, based on the forms of copperplate typefaces. At the same time, the playful forms display a variety of Rococo elements. Richly ornamented with vivacious swirls, especially on the capitals, the forms of this font dance across the paper. The capitals can also be used as initials combined with other alphabets. Scriptease looks as though it were made for the light, carefree side of life.

Morris Fuller Benton’s drawings at the Smithsonian show a creative concern for effects of scale on typeface design. No mystery here: this monocase neon face is based on the old logotype lettering for The Electric Company TV show. Gauche Display is a "tasteless and awkward" script font for those who don't exactly want sophistication in their typographic script usage. Er, um, uh..."inspired" by several script fonts (all of which look much, much prettier), you can't take your eyes off this font, much in the same way you can't stop looking at a trainwreck. In other words, it sucks on purpose and lives up (or down, take your pick) to its name.

The Standard version of the Norden font family (see Round and Display) is "a standard sans serif" font. However, the significant detail and difference is that it comes with slightly rounded end corners, which makes the font “easier on the eye”, especially at large sizes compared to traditional fonts with sharp-edge corners. This little but important difference gives the font a commanding yet poised presence, without it imposing itself, as it were.

A piece of hand lettered sheet music from the era of the "Roaring Twenties" served as a model for Raccoon Coat JNL. It was a time of Prohibition, bathtub gin, flappers and college boys decked out in beanies and raccoon coats. College pennants, ukuleles and "23 Skidoo" were all part of the youth culture during this period; which gave us such dances at the Charleston, the Black Bottom and the Lindy Hop.

Hauser Script is a freely drawn brush script typeface, which was designed in 1936 by George Hauser for Ludlow. Hauser took advantage of the slanting matrices of the Ludlow machine to create what is possibly the most informal of American brush scripts. Steve Jackaman of International TypeFounders, Inc. (ITF) digitally engineered the typeface in 1998. Hauser Script has a graceful, calligraphic look that brings class to any project at display and subhead sizes.

American Type Founders released the pattern for this typeface under the name "Thermotype". In the days of cast-metal foundry type, copyfitting headlines could prove problemmatic at times; this typeface, with a wide uppercase and narrower lowercase of exactly the same “color”, allowed stacked lines of type to be composed with uniform width. Clean, crisp and practical. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

This is a stylized sans serif font family that is very high-waisted and sleek. The stroke is only slightly modulated. The letterforms are higher, with a more open aperture, and sprinkled with breaks to add light and sparkle. This an attempt at a readable sans serif for text. It has many OpenType features and 465 characters per font: Caps, lower case, small caps, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accents characters and so on.
