The bâtarde flamande is a style of writing used predominantly in France and present-day Belgium in the 15th century. The style shares an ancestry with other writing styles traditionally grouped as blackletter— fraktur, textura, rotunda, and schwabacher. It had evolved, however, into an æsthetic far removed from its relatives. While high-contrast in nature, the bâtarde flamande is more delicate and dynamic than the austere and condensed fraktur and textura. Quick curves lack the rigidity of the schwabacher and rotunda. Flair through swashes is thematic, as are the variations in letterforms. The flowing rhythm, achieved through a letterform axis that is overall slightly rightward, is most noticable in the hallmark f and long s. Round forms are fused together for economy of space. It is a writing hand that, with its syncopation and fluidity, produces a vibrance uncharacteristic of other blackletters. Givry has been created in the spirit of the bâtarde flamande. It melds the particular traits compiled from the works of the style’s prominent scribes—Jean Fouquet, Loyset Liédet, and Jean Bourdichon. Abeille means bee in French. I am a little worried about the world's bee populations, as whole colonies collapse due to monoculture and pesticides. I have planted many bee-attracting plants in my garden and even put up a 'bee hotel' (which is full of tenants right now). Abeille is a hand drawn didone-ish font, kind of cute and happy, very legible and full of character. Abeille comes with a swarm of diacritics.

A revival of sorts, Freaky Frog BF is modeled after an 1887 design from Central Type Foundry, called Grimaldi. Much warmth and charm have been instilled into the original design through among other means, reworked contours and serifs. Contours are smoothened, liberated from its roughness, while serifs have become somewhat concave. Verticals and horizontals appear to "swell" owed in part to flared shapes. The overall effect, I believe, is one of pure typographic endearment.

Obrigado means 'Thank You' in Portuguese. It is my way of saying thanks to the unknown designer of a Portuguese port-wine poster from the thirties. Obrigado font is based on that poster.
