The Dutch word “leuk" translates loosely to English as pleasant, jolly, funny, witty, clever, nice, sweet, kind, nice, amusing, entertaining, and funny. Leuk, the font, is a small, highly legible font with a witty, sociable personality that engages it’s readers. My challenge in designing Leuk was to find a unique feature to set apart the font without losing the fundamentals of type design. In the process of doing so, I created a virtual font “smile and wink” in the “o” upper and lowercase with integrated stencil-connecting strokes within the “a,e, k, z, o, ß” to reveal Leuk’s calligraphic roots. Legible and friendly, Leuk is designed for use in advertising, brochures, promotion, book cover design, packaging, and the like. The Leuk family consists of Leuk Light, Leuk Light Italic, Leuk Regular, Leuk Italic, Leuk Bold, Leuk Bold Italic, Leuk Black, Leuk Black Italic in Opentype format.

Debs was inspired by a thank you note sent from one of my friends to another. The recipient liked the handwriting so much that he passed the note on to me after having asked permission from Debs, the writer. I enjoyed the vigor and looseness of the handwriting, as well as admiring its legibility and style. Debs has all the characteristics of modern handwriting: It appears loose, unstructured, and free, while maintaining good form and great legibility. Its baseline is varied, creating an impression of notes written by busy people, while its characters remain well formed and readable. Debs comes in five styles, regular, lite, black, wide and wide-black. Use Debs for advertising, for casual greeting cards, for a casual, handwritten look on music or fashion media. Debs has all the features usually included in a fully professional font. Language support includes all European character sets.

Italiko is a calligraphic font. The letters have been hand-drawn individually to extract the common strokes. The strokes have then been re-composed to give the font a more unified appearance. It comes in Black, Bold, Regular, and Thin. The Thin version is different as the extreme contrast in the font makes the thinner lines disappear. It is likely best used as a display font. Costanera is a neohumanist typeface with both soft strokes and endings, which is inspired by 90s typefaces. It has an organic aspect and curved finials associated to the early calligraphy, while its straight angles give Costanera a technological and futuristic impression. Brookshire was inspired by the lettering seen on the Almanac ephemera paper when I visited the flea market in France. ITC Astro is the typeface that proves you can get your work done while watching cartoons. “It all started as a series of doodles while I was watching The Jetsons,” recalls Sasa Petricic. “The show's impossibly simplistic vision of the twenty-first century cried out for a font that fit into that world -- a world where everyday objects can carry far more fun and personality than they should.” ITC Astro is the first commercial typeface design from Petricic, whose “day job” is working as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Petricic has filed stories from across Canada and around the world for CBC's flagship evening newscast, The National. His reports have also appeared on CNN and BBC Television. With such serious matters filling the hours of Petricic's day as a journalist, it's not hard to see why he conceived Astro as a welcome blast of whimsy. “As I began to draw the design,” he says, “I decided that every part of Astro should be a cartoon character unto itself.” Each character has its own baseline shadow (or coaster, or circular antigravity generator, depending on how you look at things). The angular caps dance jauntily, rocking from left to right, while a suite of companion small caps provide backup. When my Taiji teacher gave all of his students a handwritten card with their name on I noticed that he had an unusual and beautiful handwriting. Bertram Plain is the perfect font for setting titles in comic strips and similar designs. UK designer Martin Wait created this font 1991, after he was inspired by the casual style of circus graphics. Started with a base of geometric shape, Havard is a Strong and Sturdy display font with an industrial feeling, college style, vintage look, and sporty and athletic theme. Originally an experimental outline font made in the early days of Jeff Levine's typographic work, it's been revised and properly spaced for the design professional. The font is based on Ray Larabie's 1990's freeware release Foo - and a hand-traced, weathered-look was applied to the letter shapes. There's no kerning and a limited character set - but Terror JNL is still perfect for any headline that depicts "things that go bump in the night"...
