As part of this project, we decided to investigate the influence of a foreign substance and the consequent transformation of the original forms, which ultimately leads to extreme visual changes. The TT Alientz family consists of 3 fonts: grotesque, serif and variable* font. Each font contains more than 470 glyphs. In addition to broad language support (including Cyrillic), the typeface has stylish ligatures, contextual alternates, and old-style figures. Variability in the typeface affects the changes in the overall style of the font—moving the slider to adjust the variable axis, you can go from a laconic grotesque to an extreme serif. TT Alientz Grotesque is a fairly neat hipster grotesque, but with its own small features. In the design of some letters of the grotesque you can find small sharp elements that add uniqueness and character to the font when used in large inscriptions and headings. In the late 1990s Gerard Unger won the assignment to design the signage system for the Holy Year celebrations to be held in Rome in 2000. The system he developed in cooperation with the design agency n|p|k used a classically inspired serif typeface, but the earlier proposals included a sans-serif, which became Vesta (2001). Vesta is a versatile family that can be used as a display face alongside Unger's serif faces Gulliver, Capitolium or Coranto; it can also be used on its own, even in longer texts. Vesta is narrower and therefore more economical than some commonly used sans serifs such as Arial and Helvetica; there is also a noticeable contrast between thick and thin parts, which makes it more lively. Vesta is to be extended with narrow versions, small capitals and old style numerals, along with some special versions for headlines.

Argyle Rough was originally developed for a packaging campaign in the late 80s in my studio and sat around in various stages of completion until I decided to autotrace my original drawings. I liked the quirky roughness and decided that it did not detract from the charm of the original, in fact it improved it and saved me a whole lot of work. The original campaign called for a few additional alternate characters for use at either end and double in the middle of words, ee, ff, ll, ss etc and a stylized Th, always useful. Kush Fat and Kush Shade work well independently but together they become a two colour, two layer font. Simply type some text in Kush Shade, copy it and paste it back on top of your original text. Then change the top layer to Kush Fat and adjust the colours to your liking. For best results, use default settings for kerning and tracking (letter spacing).
