The name “Bicyclette” was chosen because this typeface is all about balance and elegance. The idea was to create a highly contrasted sans-serif family carefully balanced between gentle curves and sharp angles, with large capitals opposing uncommonly short lower case, through six distinctive weights. The letters are wide, and the capitals pop up in headlines while the lower case leaves a lot of white space between the text lines because of its small x-height. The edges are rounded (but not so much for the family to be called rounded), just enough to make the text feel slightly softer, gentler, while retaining some of that technical sans sharpness. The Bicyclette character set supports Western and Central European languages, and includes an extended set of monetary symbols. Each weight includes small caps, ligatures, proportional lining and oldstyle numbers, tabular figures, fractions and scientific superior/inferior figures.

Artigo is an old style inspired typeface system for text. It was inspired by the handwriting aspect of the first roman types but it intends to be a contemporary interpretation. Its abilities are in small text with personality. The italics capture a lot of its dynamic feeling even more expressive on the display version that stands as the most handwritten one. It gives text a lot of personality and great readability.

This typeface bears a superficial resemblance to Belwe Extrabold, but is based on a work called Thor, issued by Frederic Wesselhoeft Ltd of London in the 1930s. The characters in this font are loosely spaced for use in attention-getting subheads, but you can tighten the tracking to get spectacular headlines, should you wish. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

One of the original Clarendon types, an English design, here derived from a specimen taken from an American foundry, no identifying marks. With a tall x-height, wide version, unlike more traditional Clarendons, not a square serif but bracketed. Unique to this Clarendon are the rounded openings at the points where the horizontal and vertical stems meet in the capital B, D, P and R, not common in other Clarendons.

The typeface which inspired this offering was originally called "Chaucer", not because it is typical of lettering of Chaucer’s time (which it is not) but, more likely, because it’s pretty funny, even if the humor is low. Another purveyor of low humor, Mack Sennett and his Keystone Kops, suggested this version’s name. There's a cemetery in Castine, Maine, a lovely coastal town perhaps best known for Maine Maritime Academy and a surviving crop of stately old American elms, with headstones dating back into the 18th century -- the standard old headstone shape, often topped by winged skulls. Thanks to a local historical society volunteer, I got my hands on a couple rubbings; these show a particular style of stonecarving that proved captivating to the point of typeface design. Castine has a full character set in both roman and italic styles.
