Gardner Sans is a humanist sans serif with a range of weights, italics, small caps stylistics alternates and a set of decorative ornaments. The light and regular faces work at smaller sizes and the heavier weights are good for display lettering. It is inspired by a few historical sources including Stephenson Blakes' Granby, Gill Sans, as well as some old hand-done lettering for sales tickets. Macaroni Sans evolved from our search for an extended font family consisting of a range of weights in both uprights and obliques, with a contemporary appeal. The desired character was to be sympathetic with a range of high-tech consumer products so a friendly, soft approach was called for. The resulting mix of geometric shape, rounded terminals, subtle italic angle of just six degrees and a few quirky stroke endings met with an enthusiastic response. As its subject product line exhibits brilliant color and imagery, a style was called for that conveyed contemporary appeal and readability but would not compete with the savvy products. We arrived at a clean, modern, sociable look that would suit a broad subject field in either text, semi display or signage. Its simple lines and monoline strokes fit well with logo usage or screaming posters, enhancing letterheads or websites, for foodstuffs to autos, insurance to swimming pools, lawfirms to babyfood. Macaroni Sans is the perfect typeface for branding, logotypes, may even flatter challenging viewing conditions. Rounded types have been around (pardon the pun) for centuries; numerous examples can be seen on old wood type posters, which in a small way prompted the name: in fashion Macaroni was a term used in mid-eighteenth century Europe to describe a dandy, a chap who displayed flamboyance in dress and hairstyle and spoke outlandishly or in an effeminate manner. Hence the term macaronic verse.

Tallahassee Chassis JNL was modeled from a toy alphabet rubber stamp set made in Japan and imported to the U.S. during the late 1950s and early 1960s. The lettering style somewhat resembled that found on the side of old railroad cars, buses or trolleys.

Elegant and round Having harboured a desire for a rounded font within the Fontsmith library for some time, Phil Garnham recognised that FS Emeric offered the perfect skeleton around which to design it. Most new rounded fonts rely on scripts or other in-app automation to form their characters. For all their warmth and approachability, they too often conjure images of jelly sweets and sausages. Not so FS Aldrin, where every curve and transition has been crafted by hand, giving a distinctive look and elegant feel. Design highlights FS Aldrin enjoys wide-open ‘lunar’ counters and soft, tube-like terminals. These improve legibility, especially on backlit signage and screens. The open proportions and circular strokes are juxtaposed against a more serious technical aspect that exists within each counter shape. Bonning is a Roman face full of the spirit of the 1920s. It was inspired by a (real)estate agent's For Sale board seen in an old sepia photograph from that era and combines visual flair and period with good clear legibility. Shout is a “Hey, Look at ME” font. It is an attention-getting font for posters, flyers and ads. Its lineage includes the Haas Type Foundry’s 19th century advertising font, Kompakte Grotesk, which Jan Tschichold (1902-1974) dryly described as “extended sans serif” and which graphic designer Roland Holst (1868-1938) would have disapprovingly referred to as a “shout,” as opposed to the quiet presentation of information that he believed was the proper function of advertising. In 1963 Letraset released what appears to be an updated variation in multiple weights designed by Frederick Lambert called Compacta. Shout draws heavily on Compacta, as well as other similar fonts of the 50s and 60s like Eurostile Bold Condensed and Permanent Headline. In weight, it falls about halfway between Compacta Bold and Compacta Black, but with a relatively heavier lower case that is not so easily pushed around by the upper case. After all, one can shout while sitting down. Shout is the first font released with our new encoding, as noted in the All_customer_readme.txt. The Euro symbol has been moved to position 128 and the Zcaron/zcaron have been added at positions 142/158 respectively. Otherwise, Shout has our usual idiosyncratic glyph selection, with the German ch/ck instead of braces, a long s instead of the Greek mu and our usual Hand-in-Hand symbol. In designing Ambra Sans, the authors wanted to research the elusive natural signature of handmade humanist letter shapes, in the effort of preserving it while still developing all the capabilities of type as a technical tool in the digital age.
