The Englishman William Caslon punchcut many roman, italic, and non-Latin typefaces from 1720 until his death in 1766. At that time most types were being imported to England from Dutch sources, so Caslon was influenced by the characteristics of Dutch types. He did, however, achieve a level of craft that enabled his recognition as the first great English punchcutter. Caslon's roman became so popular that it was known as the script of kings, although on the other side of the political spectrum (and the ocean), the Americans used it for their Declaration of Independence in 1776. The original Caslon specimen sheets and punches have long provided a fertile source for the range of types bearing his name. Identifying characteristics of most Caslons include a cap A with a scooped-out apex; a cap C with two full serifs; and in the italic, a swashed lowercase v and w. Caslon's types have achieved legendary status among printers and typographers, and are considered safe, solid, and dependable. A few of the many interpretations from the early twentieth century were true to the source, as well as strong enough to last into the digital era. These include two from the American Type Founders Company, Caslon 540 and the slightly heavier Caslon #3. Both fonts are relatively wide, and come complete with small caps, Old style Figures, and italics. Caslon Open Face first appeared in 1915 from the Barnhart Bros & Spindler Foundry, and is not anything like the true Caslon types despite the name. The design of Cyan was inspired by features found in classic Roman and styles like Trajan and Bodebeck. It shows the designer's personal preference for geometric Roman proportions while incorporating open centers (B,P,R) and compact serifs. Unlike Trajan, Cyan has lowercase characters in the regular version. The characters stay true to the same features as the capitals, resulting in an unusually distinctive style. The Regular Capitals version contains Roman numerals. Cyan's weight is similar to Trajan's but the horizontal strokes are slightly bolder resulting in better legibility for small sizes, especially for lowercase characters. There are many subtle details in Cyan that become more interesting in larger sizes, for instance the subtle curves in the serifs and the overall smoothness as a result of the mostly rounded angles. Cyan is a robust font that will exceed expectations in areas never explored before. The name is inspired by the Greek word cyan, meaning "blue". The color cyan can have many different variations. One definition is a color made by mixing equal amounts of green and blue light (it also is a pure spectral color). As such, cyan is the complement of red: cyan pigments absorb red light. Cyan is sometimes called blue-green or turquoise and often goes undistinguished from light blue. Obviously the Cyan family is a perfect companion to the Cyan Sans family.

Sweet Upright Script is the first release for Sweet Fonts Collection, published by MVB Fonts. It is an interpreted revival of a vintage, social engraving lettering style that was popular during the 20th Century. It is probably the first digital version of the design. With the advent of the engraving machine (a pantograph device) around 1900, commercial engraving moved from the use of hand-cut plates to the use of masterplates (lettering patterns). Lettering was traced from the masterplate using the engraving machine, letter by letter, onto a coated steel plate, that would then be etched in a chemical bath. The resulting plate was used to print engraved stationery with the raised print distinctive to the process. Many of these lettering styles were used for decades for commercial and social applications (letterheads, wedding invitations, etc.), but as they were merely traced alphabets, were not "fonts". Many remain unavailable in digital form. Over time, a number of the most popular styles were adapted to phototype, which sped up the process of plating for engraving, avoiding the need to trace each letter by hand with the engraving machine. Later, when type went digital, these phototype fonts were revived as digital fonts. As a result, the styles offered by engravers narrowed over time, as has the range of engraving styles revived in digital form.

Aire is what Sproviero would call a < big display family >. We recommend seeing its user’s guide. After his success with Reina, Sproviero comes out with this big family of 7 members: Each of them loaded with lots of sophisticated ligatures, alternates and the entire cyrillic alphabet. The overall impression that the font gives is lightness and delicateness; that’s the reason the designer chose to call it Aire, or Air, in English. "Aire was somehow having a rest from my fat face Reina [...] It started as a really thin style of Reina, but it rapidly migrated from it and grew up alone. And how it grew..." The inspiration came from his own past creations: “The heavy strokes of Reina were shouting for a more delicate thing. Something more feminine. More fragile. Something which had a lot of elegance and fresh air inside”. Aire responds to this: Sproviero found that many of the typefaces of nowadays which are used for headlines (best known as display fonts) have almost always just one, maybe two weight styles. This was his opportunity to try something new. Aire makes it easier for the user to generate different levels/layers of communication thanks to its variety of styles. With this font you can solve entire decorative pieces of design with just one font, and that was the aim of it. Aire was designed to be playful yet formal: While none of its alternates are activated it can be useful for short to medium length texts; and when the user chooses to make use of its open-type decorative glyphs, it can be useful for headlines with dazzling results. On March of 2012, Aire was chosen to be part of the most important exhibition of typography in Latinoamerica: Tipos Latinos 2012. TECHNICAL Aire is a family with many members. Each member has variants inside, which are open-type programmed: The user decides which glyph to alternate, equalizing the amount of decoration wanted. Every decorative glyph has its weight adjusted to the style it belongs to. Exclusively for decoration, Aire Fleurons Pro is an open-type programmed set of ornaments. And last but not least, remember Aire is delicate. What’s my point? It is not recommended to activate all the alternates at the same time. It is typo-scientifically proved: A maximum of 3 or 4 alternates per word would be more than enough.

When did it start. One day I was designing some stuff for a fast food café. By style the Café was made as an old Soviet canteen. So I had to do a special accent on this in menu, advertising posters and other print products. I decided to do this by interesting old school font. There are many cool retro fonts on the Internet, but not one of them satisfied me on 100%. The next step was to look at the old posters and find some inspiration. So I found some cool pictures with exact letters that I needed, but there were no typefaces to buy so that I can print some text with this exact letters. That's why I decided to do such typeface for my own. You can use this typeface in the field of nutrition, and it also will suit for cinema posters.

In response to many requests for Morpheus, an idea came to us. Why not make a font that looked a bit like Morpheus, but which had more attractive, more consistent character forms, was rendered cleanly and properly spaced and kerned? We took a look at Morpheus and decided to redo the concept from the ground up, replacing some of the amateurish characters, adding a bit of a Celtic look and feel, developing a set of alternate characters and making sure that the design elements were consistent from letter to letter. The result is Orpheus, a font which has the general look and feel of Morpheus, but is a much more complete and fully realized design. In addition, Orpheus is a fully developed font set, with not only regular and bold versions, but with a special customized italic style and a really neat looking heavy weight rough-outlined variant.

Diverda Serif is a contemporary typeface that is free from ornament. Created by Swiss designer Daniel Lanz, Diverda Serif is optimized for maximum legibility. In contrast to many other modern typefaces, which try to squeeze the traditional rounder forms of the alphabet into square designs, and which often attempt to equalize the widths of the capital letters, Diverda Serif remains true to the proper proportions of the Roman alphabet. The x-heights of Diverda Serif's characters are low, and the differences between curved, square, and triangular elements are very clear. Like the more calligraphic typefaces of the past, Diverda Serif's strokes exhibit contrast that is inspired by movements of the pen on paper; down strokes are heavier than up strokes. Today's digital font technology has allowed renowned font designer and calligrapher Hermann Zapf to realize a dream he first had more than fifty years ago: to create a typeface that would come very close to the freedom and liveliness of beautiful handwriting. The basic Zapfino font family, released in 1998, consists of four alphabets with many additional stylistic alternates that can be freely mixed together to emulate the variations in handwritten text. For many years I had repeatedly written names on certificates or designed texts for certificates of honor with a pen. I later digitized a font written with a broad pen from 1988 to make it easier to use. After the technical possibilities for this had developed, I made a PostScript font out of this document font. The "HGB-Unik" is a humanistic antiqua that arose from this written type. In 2009 Unik was chosen as the text font for a book. However, the book designers wanted to have an italic and a bold style as well. The cursive was developed from written texts that I also wrote for various occasions in the 1980s. The resulting font family was thoroughly revised several times until a usable text font with four weights was created. Although the Unik looks very idiosyncratic in display size, it shows a surprisingly balanced, pleasant typeface in read size.

Robofan is a vintage Open Type font based on the logo of reconfigurable robots (toys and characters) from the mid 1980s.
