During the period of the Great American Depression, “hobos” created a system of symbols to communicate and assist fellow travelers. These symbols would mark a home, farm, fence or other structure to indicate what to expect in the area. They would tip off travelers on how to find food, stay safe and what to avoid and more. In some areas of the USA, these symbols are still visible and have also become part of the American popular culture. These 96 symbols are accompanied by a pdf describing what the symbol was used to indicate. The meanings and symbols are by no means the complete list and there may be additional or alternative meanings. These are for casual use and not historical or anthropologically completely accurate.

In 1957, Helmut Matheis designed Charme for the Ludwig and Mayer type foundry, located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. This informal script is of medium weight and has some variation of color. The caps are flowing and the lower case letters are close fitting. Their is a bold companion, called Slogan.

Deco is a minimal, easy-to-read gothic without fuss. Geometry is sharp, strokes are uniform throughout, and characters are slightly condensed. This version is based on wood type of unknown origin, but the design was likely based on lettering from the Art Deco period of the 1920s and '30s.

Hearts, and wings are both powerful symbols.The heart represents the seat of the emotions, and Wings represent movement upward, even spiritually, in the case of angel wings. These images have been drawn with a brush, some of them on rough paper, and are available as a black or white version.

Energetics is a symbol font that includes 98 different pictograms, each showing figures engaged in athletic pursuit. The characters are drawn with a strong black & white drawing style, which helps stress the dynamic quality of the images. The details in Energetics' symbols come out best when they are used big.

The faces of IanSegoe were early attempts by IngrimayneType to construct medieval-looking faces. They drew inspiration from several medieval-themed fonts that were available at the time (1990). My first font for the summer of 2009, Abrect is a new sans serif font where I try to maximize the x-height and keep the design fresh and personal. It fits in with my continuing objective of designing book fonts that I can really use. Abrect is a tangent for me just taking an idea out to its end. In particular, it is a radical modification of my first font in 1993, Nuevo Litho. The hand-drawn shapes vary a lot, many pushing the boundaries of the normal character. With many of the new releases I see, the digital perfection is getting pretty extreme. It’s looking like a Rococo stage of development for many with decoration taking over from function. I'm consciously trying to head a different direction. This is not a normal font for me in that it has caps, lowercase, with the appropriate figures for each case, no small caps. This is the first time I have skipped small caps in over a decade. This font has all the OpenType features in the display set for 2009 except for the small caps. There are several ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more and many of them are experimental in form. Enjoy!

Arturo is a brand new font family drawn from the original inspiration of an old alphabet in one of Dan Solo 's Dover Clip Art books. It has moved far away from those raw roots, however. Every character has been redrawn. For example, I had a light version that I never could get working. Arturo is based on that light style and called Arturo Book. The name comes from a good friend of mine in El Paso. He was the guinea pig upon whom I foisted off the beginnings of this style so many years ago. I did several marketing pieces for him using the raw drawings. I figured that he deserved to have the family named after him, at the very least. This is a normal font family for me in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. This font has all the OpenType features in the set for 2009. Sébastien Truchet designed a modular typographic system during his last year in the School of Fine Arts of Besançon. The system is made of a unique grid and 6 modules which are the components to build several typefaces. The most radical is the "2-2". The last one is the "10-12". This is the 4-4. It is built into a square grid. Four modules in width and in height. This font proposes to you two appearances : the caps are blackest and the small letters are more open.

Bongani has its origins in wood-carved African design and art. The Atoxina family is designed especially for the burgeoning market of starships and other space cruisers. The fonts are ideal for internal and external use (including zero-g and occasional bursts of cosmic rays), and with their simplified forms are expected to survive well in non-linear galaxies. With their unusual diagonal half-pixels the fonts are striking as abstract designs at astronomical sizes, where small text may be placed within the black holes formed inside the letters. The typeface is available in two different styles: Atoxina (regular) and Btoxina (italic).

Fourth is a contemporary roundhand script with a classic feel. It draws inspiration from classic Americana – baseball scripts, sign painting and branding. Usually fonts that are related to computers, space, future are not handmade, but rather digital made. Autoray is 100% handmade, and I am not sure which category it fits in. It has this futuristic and intergalactic look, but at the same time the handmade details are pointing in a more grafitti and comic way. I will let you decide where to go with Autoray! I have added 5 different versions of each letter, and they automatically changes as you type - and of course, there's multilingual support - and even intergalactic gravity! :)

The BrightIdeas family contains two novelty fonts that have letters on light bulbs. The fonts have some characters on standing bulbs and some on hanging bulbs and these two sets are made to alternate with the OpenType contextual alternatives (calt) feature.
