Nudista is a monolinear, geometric sans-serif based on the proportions of the Purista typeface, released in 2007. The forms are not based strictly on square shape, but rather on a pleasant oval, round shape. The letter outlines are smooth, even technicist, the geometric precision is however compensated in places where it would get in the way of legibility and compromise the desired visual impact. Nudista was originally conceived as a display type, but it is sufficiently legible even in text sizes. Thus, it suits short texts in corporate prints. Carefully chiselled letter curves are sturdy and well suited for the harsh conditions of low-resolution printing devices, they work well on computer screens and mobile phone displays. However, Nudista works best in corporate systems, navigation and orientation systems, where it may be, also thanks to the sufficient range of weights, a good alternative to the well-known and thus a little overused DIN. Naked typeface with no needless decorations humbly serves in all places where too expressive types could be disturbing.

Broadside is a versatile, authoritative and functional family inspired by the sans serifs seen on ’40s and ’50s patriotic posters and period advertising. It is available in seven weights across condensed, normal and extended widths, each with reweighed italics. The type from this period was very often hand-drawn, and so differs considerably from poster to poster. Many American examples of this period use a Photo-Lettering style called Murray Hill and its derivatives, although their UK counterparts, designed by such luminaries as Abram Games or Tom Eckersley, are more stylistically diverse. Even though no single model is available to base a digitisation on, there are certain recurring stylistic quirks that give the type its unique flavour, and so the most interesting examples from several sources were be combined for the final family. Alternate short descenders, allowing for tighter line spacing, can be toggled on or off in the Opentype panel of Indesign or Illustrator. Tabular and lining numerals and a single-story ‘a’ are also available in all weights and styles.

With its slightly rough edges, Thumbnail Text works well where lettering is required. Letterforms wiggle a bit here and there but are generally quite uniform. Characters are a bit imprecise - but not showy or bouncy. They appear more adult-looking than childish and are very legible. Put Thumbnail Text to work as drafting notation or on blueprint projects that need to be easily read. It¹s also useful when concept or sketch stage lettering needs to look serious but not highly stylized. You might experiment with it inside cartoon thought balloons or in callouts. This design is based on an old showcard style from the 1940s. It's been dusted off and reissued for modern use. A lowercase has been added for greater functionality. Thumbnail Text Regular is now available in the OpenType Std format. Some additional characters have been added to this OpenType version as stylistic alternates. This advanced feature works in current versions of Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress. Check for OpenType advanced feature support in other applications as it gradually becomes available with upgrades.

Parabrite arrives as a vision of the future. The future is brite - Parabrite - this is unavoidable now. The composition of Parabrite is found to be based on a set of technical behaviors defined from a set of four sub-glyphs and their interactions, similar to the make up of our D.N.A. (A,C,G,T). Likewise, Parabrite's block matrix is composed of four units (S,L,I,C). These units are only allowed to group together according to predefined set of mathematical rules, and affect each other symbiotically. The smallcase letters stand five feathers high, while the capitals add an extra two feathers width. Parabrite is extended, containing the full West European diacritics & a full set of ligatures, making it suitable for multilingual environments & publications. Use Parabrite when you dream of a future world. Since Parabrite is adapted to be quickly read by a wide assortment of electronic scanners, legibility to humans suffers a little, although robots report it is much easier on the eyes. They are happy to read it for you too, if you are having trouble.

Rialto dF is a book face inspired by calligraphic tradition. Named after the famous bridge in Venice, it was conceived as a bridge between calligraphy and typography, roman and italic. It can also be thought of as an imaginary bridge between Italy and Austria, since it is the result of collaboration started in 1995 between the Austrian Lui Karner and Venetian Giovanni de Faccio. The letterforms of Rialto dF were drawn directly in digital format with a starting point deriving from humanistic letterforms memorized in the hearts, minds and the manual ability of its designers… As tradition demands, uppercase, numerals and punctuation are used in combination with italics – the same solution adopted by Francesco Griffo when he cut his first italic for the Virgil, the first of the octavo series printed and published in Venice by Aldus Manutius in 1501. Rialto dF comes in two optical weights: Piccolo, for up to 14 pt, and Grande for 16pt and above. Alternate characters and various dingbats are also provided and these are available through OpenType features developed by type designer and technician Karsten Luecke.

Guilloches were – in the old days – used to make the falsification of banknotes more difficult. The engraving of these intricate lines was done by a highly specialized mechanical machine, which was operated by an equally highly specialized engraving artist. Once the settings for a specific curve were changed back to zero it was very difficult, if not impossible to set them back to the old design. I have designed a useful set of Guilloches that join to form ribbons that create a kind of op-art 3d effect. Under the keys A-U and a-u you find joining pieces. Under the keys V-Z and v-z I placed start- and endpieces. 0-4 are different lenght straight extensions and 5-9 are not quite so straight extensions. All other keys are corner pieces that can be used as stand-alones or put in rows to make for superb decoration. A modern sans serif with open round forms. The ”round“ letters emphasize the condensed open oval; the light counter forms provide the rhythm of the typeface, causing the typeface to appear gentle and pleasing. The ”modern“ design of a and g being especially contributive here. All of the letters are recognizably narrow, almost ”condensed,“ the forms being very functionally shaped. The construction of the ”triangular“ upper case letters A M N V W as well as v and w, especially catches the eye with the shafts joined together as beams are stacked upon each other. With this construction Hedwig displays a down-to-earth touch. Contrary to the classical sans serifs, a few letters were given light echoes of serifs which promote fluency: a d l are displayed below the line in a reading direction and end in a compressed but also very short serif style; on m n p r the upstroke is gently displayed and on u the downstroke. For all the typo-maniacs among you designers there are alternative forms for a number of letters in Hedwig: A B D G I M R W and a d f g j l ß u. Even an antiquated ”long“ s and an upper case ß is available. Plus, Hedwig includes numerous ligatures which can save that little bit of space where required and which allow the typeface to appear more variable: ch, ck, ct, fi, fj, fl, ff, ffi, ffl, ft, mm, ti, tt, tz.

Iza W and Intellecta Design are proud to announce Invitation Script, a modern and clean revival of the classic work of the Portuguese master penman Manuel de Andrade de Figueiredo, whose work can be seen in “Nova Escola para aprender a ler, escrever, e contar (...)'' (1722). Invitation Script is the third script superfamily published by Intellecta Design, after Penabico and Van den Velde Script. Invitation Script has original letters designed by Iza W. Creative direction and core programming were provided by Paulo W. Chyrllene K assisted with some work on unusual and archaic styles, resulting in a special font - Invitation Script Archaic (soon available). Invitation started out from Andrade’s script style and evolved into a voluptuous script font family. The result is a typeface ideal for beautiful headings, signatures, art work typography, titles and short pieces of hand-lettered text. Invitation family includes two multi-table Opentype fonts, three supplementary fonts for ornaments and fleurons, and the Archaic font with some of the Andrade’s original characters. Embedded in the regular fonts are additional sets of letters. Over 40 variations are available for certain letters via the Special Sets Opentype table. Arturo is a brand new font family drawn from the original inspiration of an old alphabet in one of Dan Solo 's Dover Clip Art books. It has moved far away from those raw roots, however. Every character has been redrawn. For example, I had a light version that I never could get working. Arturo is based on that light style and called Arturo Book. The name comes from a good friend of mine in El Paso. He was the guinea pig upon whom I foisted off the beginnings of this style so many years ago. I did several marketing pieces for him using the raw drawings. I figured that he deserved to have the family named after him, at the very least. This is a normal font family for me in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. This font has all the OpenType features in the set for 2009. There are several ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more. Aphrosine is a font based on pointed pen script. A huge lot of alternatives and smart OpenType features allow it to look almost indistinguishable from real live handwriting. Aphrosine is something between handwriting and calligraphy: it took too much effort for being “just handwriting” but lacks seriousness and regularity comparing to true calligraphic fonts. That’s why it was called after a peculiar character from a children’s book: a witch who was very fond of dressing, makeup and writing letters. Aphrosine has three faces. But unlike most other type families, the glyphs from one face do not match exactly the glyphs from another one. The faces are based on writing with different nibs but by the same hand. Gorodets is a symbol font based on traditional wood-painting style from the town Gorodets on Volga river, Russia. The main motifs of it are decorative flowers, birds, horses and even people, drawn in special way and painted in black, red, blue and green. This frivolous 6-font typeface was inspired by playing with my food one evening. I began to wonder what it would be like to draw a typeface with a pipette and liquid... the result is Fluid. Dom was designed by Peter Dombrezian for American Type Founders in 1951–52. It is an informal unjoined script typeface that looks brushwritten. Its letters are almost monotone, freely or casually drawn. Vertical strokes of them have irregular ending at different heights, and oval axis have slightly different slopes.
