It’s surprising - it can take more time and effort to make something deliberately and artfully imperfect than it does to make a more conventional design. We certainly found this to be the case when designing ‘SpeedSketch’. Perhaps a more accurate name would have been ‘SlowDraw’ but that wouldn’t really capture the essence of the finished design.

This font was inspired by the embossed lettering on cigar boxes. The letters, or entire words, are often surrounded by raised dots, and that was our idea here. We drew this about 1997, and have been refining it ever since. All letters are on the lowercase keyboard; the end pieces and spaces are on the caps.

For decades, Samuel Welo’s “Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers” was a source of inspiration for sign painters, graphic artists and designers. The inspiration for Cuba comes from a sign for the restaurant "La Flor de Cuba" on Bergenline Avenue in Union City, New Jersey. Its blocky, dimensional forms are reminiscent of letterforms seen in signs throughout Latin America from, Colombia, to Mexico, to Spain, to Union City. Its quirky forms are meant to evoke a sense of hand painted signage.

Alber New is the revamped version of Alber originally released in 2006. While retaining its original appeal Alber New has been overhauled from the ground up with improved outlines, spacing and kerning. Alber New also boasts an extending character set including small caps, subscript and superscript allowing it to cope with the most demanding of jobs.

This typeface has been influenced by the Melbourne city landscape. One building in particular reflects this typeface, this building is located at 90 Flinders Street, Melbourne, Australia. This font is also influenced by computer age fonts such as Bubbledot and Digital. This typeface aims to be bold, angular, dynamic and original. Its primary function is heading use.

DuBois JNL is based on hand lettering designed by Albert DuBois of New York City, and originally titled "Round Block". His design was found in an old sign painters' design book from the early 1900s and has been translated to digital form by Jeff Levine. All of the quirks and charm of hand lettering have remained.
