I was inspired by the sickly, stoic and mysterious man who differs for his willingness to stay at Fort Bastiani. Linotype Schnitz is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. I recently came across an old travel journal I’d misplaced, and in it was a really rough sketch of an Italian post office. Sometimes you get an idea stuck in your head and the only way to get rid of that demon is to put something down on paper. A year later the doodles became a skeleton, and then the skeleton had a body, then the body had a name, then the name got a personality.
