Known to many eastern artists as the California Poster Letter because it originated in the West, this old 1930s style has reappeared in digital form. Carl Holmes, in his wonderful book on old lettering styles, pays tribute to this uniquely American design. Faintly reminiscent of the lettering of Fred G. Cooper, California Poster Bold is at times wildly exaggerated and boisterous. Letters appear to be inflated and loopy. Wedge’ is the outcome of a search for the essence of a formal alphabet for text — for 26 letters of the simplest form consistent with ease of reading.. Noted New Zealand architect Bruce Rotherham (1926–2004) was inspired by Herbert Bayer’s ‘universal alphabet’ created at the Bauhaus in 1927. While he admired Bayer’s pure geometry, Rotherham felt it was ‘virtually unreadable’. The Bauhaus-inspired inclination for architectural publications to use sans serif faces provoked Rotherham to consider how a readable Roman book face might be approached using some of Bayer’s same principles of simplification, but also retracing the evolution and use of the Roman form in an analytic manner. The Wedge alphabet was started in 1947 when Rotherham was an architecture student at the University of Auckland. It was worked on and refined over several decades but never commercially released, until now. Over sixty years after it was first conceived, Wedge is available from P22.

Introducing our new modern signature font "Agatha Bergman". We would say that "Agatha Bergman" is a result of our latest experiment since a few new things have been done: "Agatha Bergman" is a voguish sophisticated signature-style script with three different uppercase alternatives for each letter and a unique short swash for each lowercase letter. We usually used to make long and wavy swashes, however, that's not the case this time. Also, the stylistic alternates were coded as both ligatures and swashes so that turning on the “Standard ligatures” was enough to access them. The font includes 152 fancy standard ligatures and 6 discretionary ligatures, and while working on them we tried to consider those letter combinations that are often met in surnames, e.g. -ovsky.

Conestoga was a challenge that I took on which was to take a logo from an old antique vegetable crate label and create a complete font based on its design. The original logo was curved on a path and was caps only. The new letters were drawn straight and a matching lowercase was created to turn this old custom logo into a working font.

When creating the font, I was inspired by the various names of musical groups and sci-fi movies. I took the hourglass shape as a basis and added various serifs to it, hence the name of my font appeared - Klepsydra, as in the Greek hourglass. This style has an abbreviation - "Z". I will develop this font family and will add new styles, as well as characters.
