The original lowercase f had a big overhang - I redesigned it so it fits better with accented letters, but also kept the original shape as a contextual alternate: the font automatically uses the "large" f before any low letters... Also the lowercase j would crash into any preceding letters with a righthand descender - so I also designed an automatic alternate j. Result: no colliding letters! The Slanted version adds a touch of speed. Since their first appearance as Italians on the pages of the 1821 William Caslon type specimens, reverse contrast typefaces have been typography's best loved quirky outcasts. Mantika Book was originally conceived and drawn parallel to the first Agilita drawings. *[images: pencil drawings] It took several years before having a chance looking at these designs again. But then, my first impulse was to turn this alphabet into a new sanserif, which was to become Mantika Sans. This was the starting point to conceive a super family consisting of different design styles and corresponding weights. The initial drawings of Mantika Book were refined and an Italic was developed to go with it. The aim was to create a modern serif typeface which is reminiscent of humanistic Renaissance typefaces, yet without following a particular historic model. Its large x-height for one is far away from original Renaissance models. Mantika Book was designed as a companion serif typeface to Mantika Sans that can be set for lengthy texts as in books, hence its name. It shares the same x-height with Mantika Sans but has longer ascenders and descenders, making for better word shapes in long, continuous reading. The approach of an ›old-style‹ looking typeface with large minuscules makes Mantika Book also a choice for magazine text settings where one often needs smaller point sizes to fit in a multiple columns layout. The unique details of Mantika Book are the asymetric bracketed serifs in the upright font and its higher stroke contrast than usual in a Renaissance style. The stems are slightly curved inwards. Also, the Italics have a low degree of inclination, which makes longer passages of text set in Italic rather pleasing to read. Another feature Mantika Book shares with Mantika Sans is that all four weights take up the same line length. It covers all European languages plus Cyrillic and Greek, is equipped with lots of useful scientific symbols [double square brackets, angle brackets, empty set, arrows] and the regular weight has small caps. There is a kind of an old-style feeling to Mantika Book, yet these citations were turned into a contemporary serif typeface with a soft but sturdy character.

Designed by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini with Francesco Canovaro as a development and reinvention of Tarif by Andrea Tartarelli, Ambra Sans is a humanist sans typeface family, drawn around a lively, expressive skeleton but developed with a contemporary, post-digital sensibility that implies low contrast and tall x-height. In designing Ambra Sans, the authors wanted to research the elusive natural signature of handmade humanist letter shapes, in the effort of preserving it while still developing all the capabilities of type as a technical tool in the digital age. Like a frail insect preserved in amber, humanist design is the "ghost in the machine" of this font, that aims at seducing the viewers with its soft, welcoming text flow, firmly opposing the rigid, formal tone of most sans serif fonts. Born to provide a useful tool to graphic designers with branding and editorial needs, Ambra Sans develops around two subfamilies with slight but fundamental differences. The display family offers a taller x-height, optimizing readability and spacing in headings and display use, while offering a single story lowercase g to provide more consistent branding usage. The text family, on the other side, goes for a smaller x-height to give more traditional proportion to the text and removes the slight tapering in the stems to provide better rendering on screen in small formats. Both subfamilies of Ambra Sans develop around a wide range of seven weights with corresponding true italics, with Ambra Display sporting an extra heavy weight for maximum versatility. In total the family counts 30 fonts, each with over 600 glyphs for a wide language coverage. Inspired in the sweet letters of calligraphy and typography masters of our past; such as Didot, Bodoni and the incredible Herb Lubalin, its aim was to incorporate the decorative accolades from blackletter and copperplate styles of calligraphy into a Modern Roman typeface. Reina reflects sovereignty due to the enveloping atmosphere and the sensation of greatness that can be felt when using it. It has an unique way of standing over paper and screen, being its swashes responsible of an extreme elegance. "Berganza" is a typeface designed as a tribute to the spanish century called "Siglo de Oro". Embellished with several ornaments and swashes, it quickly reminds an age in which castilian arts & letters were flourished, as well as the fantasy knighty fables adventures of heroes, loved ladies and evil villains. Although the Siglo de Oro cannot be set in specific dates, it is generally considered to have lasted more than a century; between 1492, the year of the discovery of America and 1681, the year in which the writer Pedro Calderón dela Barca died. Lope de Vega, Francisco de Quevedo, or even William Shakespeare (in England) are also famous figures of this time. Berganza typeface takes its name from the main character of the picaresque novel "The Conversation of the Dogs" (Cervantes, 1613). Berganza is able to speak with the other dog Scipio on a big number of social & philosophical topics. Talking about technics, Berganza is a modern typeface but with a humanist flavour. Thanks to its various styles and flourishes, it immediately refers to the culteranism aesthetic of that time, whose aim was to elevate the noble over the vulgar. But also, Berganza takes advantage of the contemporary technology, highlighting in his drawing the contrasted forms and certain broken and unusual strokes in order to give it a brave and different style touch. Berganza includes four weights to be used for continuous reading with great visual richness. However, it is more recommended for large sizes, since its unusual and particular details appear when the letter grows. FF Good is a straight-sided sans serif in the American Gothic tradition, designed by Warsaw-based Łukasz Dziedzic. Despite having something of an “old-fashioned” heritage, FF Good feels new. Many customers agree: the sturdy, legible forms of FF Good have been put to good use in the Polish-language magazine ‘Komputer Swiat,’ the German and Russian edition of the celebrity tabloid OK!, and the new corporate design for the Associated Press. Although initially released as a family of modest size, the typeface was fully overhauled in 2010, increasing it from nine styles to 30 styles, with an additional 30-style sibling for larger sizes, FF Good Headline. In 2014, the type system underwent additional expansion to become FontFont’s largest family ever with an incredible 196 total styles. This includes seven weights ranging from Light to Ultra, and an astonishing seven widths from Compressed to Extended for both FF Good and FF Good Headline, all with companion italics and small caps in both roman and italic. With its subtle weight and width graduation, it is the perfect companion for interface, editorial, and web designers. This allows the typographer to pick the style best suited to their layout. I've always been in love with fat didones. That’s the reason of Posh. In search of something unique, I started this family back in 2013 with the aim of creating the fattest yet readable bodonian typeface in the market: It was a challenge, because roman fonts need generous counters (or what some call white spaces) and taking them to the extreme of inexistence attempted against the construction of many glyphs. Ears, dots, terminals and serifs always need some extra space so I had to find the exact point of boldness to make characters which have those attributes work well in the middle of those which haven't. (1) After a while, I felt I was again ‘in my element’: Big contrasted letters, sexy and elegant curves, and that Lubalinesque feeling that characterise my fonts. (2) Words written with Posh are a explosion of elegance and sensuality due to the fact that its didone attributes were exaggerated. Since it’s full of alternate glyphs, one can change and choose them until a nice block of ‘‘black’’ is achieved. (3) To accompany the regular style, I designed Posh Inline, a font with the same quantity of glyphs than the regular one; an all caps style called Posh Capitals, and also a really playful Italic version. I hope you find this one delicious like I do! This font is dedicated to all who understand letters are not just meant to be read, but also to be appreciated in group and individually. Enjoy it. NOTES (1) In example, it can be easy to design a fat letter ‘n’ with almost no counter, but really tough to make a satisfactory letter ‘s’ with serifs to match that ‘n’. Morris is a four-font family produced by HiH Retrofonts and based on the work of the very English William Morris. William Morris wanted a gothic type drawn from the 14th century blackletter tradition that he admired both stylistically and philosophically. He drew from several sources. His principal inspiration for his lower case was the 1462 Bible by Peter Schoeffer of Mainz; particularly notable for the first appearance of the ‘ear’ on the g. The upper case was Morris’s amalgam of the Italian cursive closed caps popular throughout the 12th through 15th centuries, a modern example of which is Goudy’s Lombardic Capitals. The gothic that Morris designed was first used by his Kelmscott Press for the publication of the Historyes Of Troye in 1892. It was called “Troy Type” and was cut at 18 points by Edward Prince. It was also used for The Tale of Beowulf. The typeface was re-cut in at 12 points and called “Chaucer Type” for use in The Order of Chivalry and The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer. Morris' objective is designing his gothic was not only to preserve the color and presence of his sources, but to create letters that were more readable to the English eye. ATF copied Troy and called it Satanick. Not only was the ATF version popular in the United States; but, interestingly, sold very well in Germany. There was great interest in that country in finding a middle ground between blackletter and roman styles -- one that was comfortable for a wider readership. The Morris design was considered one of the more successful solutions. Our interpretation, which we call Morris Gothic, substantially follows the Petzendorfer model used by other versions we have seen, with the following exceptions: 1) a larger fillet radius on the upper arm of the H, 2) a more typically broadpen stroke in place of the foxtail on the Q, which I do not like, 3) inclusion of the aforementioned ear on the g and 4) a slightly shorter descender on the y. We have included five ornaments, at positions 0135, 0137, 0167, 0172 and 0177. The German ligatures ‘ch’ & ‘ck’ can be accessed using the left and right brace keys (0123 & 0125). Morris Initials One and Morris Initials Two are two of several different styles of decorative initial letters that Morris designed for use with his type. He drew from a variety of 15th century sources, among which were Peter Schoeffer’s 1462 Mainz Bible and the lily-of-the-valley alphabet by Gunther Zainer of Augsburg.
