Yink takes big, bulbous, ball terminals up a notch, by repeating the shapes not only in the black but in the white space too. This interplay between black and white shapes is reminiscent of the yinyang symbol in places, which is where the name Yink originates. It's a shamelessly over-the-top font, and should be set large. Dorriss girls were the dancing troop at the Moulin Rouge. I had the idea for this font while trying to come up with an alternative to beveling. I thought it would be interesting to create this sort of stepped effect as I've never really seen this treatment on a font before. Then my need to create chaos shows up again with Doriss Girls informal. A hand drawn take on the forms. This seemed like it would appear on an old art nouveau poster by the great Toulouse Lautrec, so there you have the genesis of this font. I've been somewhat compelled by the letterforms so I may expand and create a more normal version of this font someday with a range of weights. That would be the bees knees.

Marathon was originally designed by Rudolf Koch in 1931 for Schriftgiesserei Klingspor. It is a roman with short ascenders and descenders. The serifs are small, but longer at the ends of the arms of E, F and L, M is rather splayed and is without top serifs, like M in other typefeaces designed by Rudolf Koch. The lowercase g has no link and an open tail, again like the g in other Koch types. U has the lower-case design. In the W the middle strokes cross, the lower case w has no middle serif. The figures are short-ranging. Ute Harder from the Fachhochschule Hamburg had redesigned Marathon with the help and supervision of Professor Jovica Veljovic. She has added a book weight to offer more flexibility with this beautiful typeface.

THE DANISH RUNES Prior to 500 AD the 24-rune Elder Futhark was used in Denmark. From 500 AD to 800 AD there were many transitional futharks, reflecting a change from the 24-rune Futhark to the 16-rune Futharks. By the end of this period, the 24-rune Futhark went completely out of use and the 16-rune Futharks had prevailed. From 900 AD some of the runes changed, visually and phonetically. This occurred again about 950 AD and 1100 AD due to language changes. Runes dated to 1300 AD show evidence of being influenced by the Latin alphabet. Runes found in Skåne, Halland and Blekinge in Sweden, and runes found in Schleswig-Holstein in Germany, is counted among Danish runes, because in the Runic period, this was Danish land.

BILLIARD was born from the numerous sketches André Toet did for the design of a series of postage stamps in 2011. It’s a capital monospaced and ‘fun’ alphabet, based on the classic billiard play with two white and one red ball. Actually snooker and pool were derived from this rather old sport! In Europe it used to be a sport played by elderly people, practiced in traditional bars, including the smell of beer and the at that time prevalent smell of cigarettes and cigars. These days billiard, snooker and pool are quite popular once again with young people. Carousel is a fat faces display type designed by Gary Gillot in 1966. Fat faces were offshoots of the modern, or Didone, typefaces that were de rigueur during the early 1800s. These fat faces were among the first typefaces to be used solely for advertising purposes. Naturally, they were always used in larger point sizes, in display functions. Carousel could be called an optimization of these old advertising typefaces. With high x-heights, ultra contrast between thick and thin strokes, and perfectly engineered drawing techniques, Carousel is a highly crafted typeface. Fabrikat Mono is a type family designed by Christoph Koeberlin. The monospaced Sans Serif family is published by HVD Fonts and consists of seven weights plus matching italics. It is an addition to the popular Fabrikat type family that emphasises its engineering roots. Compared to Fabrikat, the Mono version evens out not only the characters’ variable widths but also its more subtle characteristics: Letters like B and R are counterbalanced, the height difference between caps, ascenders and even “t” are eliminated, while characters like the percent sign together with the stressed punctuation give a nod to typewriter typefaces. The type family is equipped for complex, professional typography with OpenType Features like alternate letters, arrows and an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European Languages.

Museum Tertia Cursive is inspired by a beautiful set of 126 matrices in the Swedish Norstedts type collection. These types were probably manufactured in Germany before 1750. The matrices are part of a set imported to Sweden by J.P. Lindh from Breitkopf & Härtel 1818. Now this exquisite design is available again, thanks to type designer Torbjörn Olsson. It's the Summer of Love all over again with this groovy psychedelic font. Designed in 2019, this typeface harks back to the carefree days of the late 1960s. Whimsical and offbeat with its swaying verticals, it nonetheless remains one of the more legible reimaginings of the genre, sporting all of the handlettered vibe of posters and album covers from the original hippie era, but with polished color and weight that evens out the legibility even at relatively small point sizes. Predominantly a unicase font, with a couple of alternate glyphs from upper to lowercase, Summer of Love works best as a large headline face, and benefits greatly from twisting and morphing the type blocks as was common during the original psych era. It's a real groove machine, baby.

When Baka and Baka Too did very well commercially (Baka was named the Best Cursive Rough Script in 2005), I shied away from doing rough, handwritten scripts in fear as being seen as a one-trick-pony. A few years have passed and some early sumi-e brush ‘doodles’ kept appealing to me. I initially thought this new font would just fall under the Baka mantle and just become a new sibling, but as brush hit paper over and over again, the letters took on a different personality from Baka. This new font was turning out to be far more expressive, smooth and rough, tasty but sticky. This dichotomy demanded a new name. The rough and smooth texture suggested the name Fugu—oddly delicate while rough and functional.

Beat Fool is my latest layered font. I love making layered fonts, because the possibilities are almost endless! Kevin Simpson was five years old when the stylized "E" of the Electrolux vacuum cleaner logo caught his eye. This is his earliest recollection of an interest that ultimately became an obsession. Type remains his major preoccupation, and he admits to attempting to work a good typeface design into any project where he can get away with it. Aitos was inspired by a metal sculpture Simpson saw while driving through the French countryside. "The statue was very strong. It was heavily weathered and had obviously been there for some time, yet it also seemed very delicate and light." Aitos, like the statue, is a rugged design. At first glance, it is chunky and bold, perhaps a little jarring. If you look again, however, you'll see it has refined qualities. Aitos commands attention - yet is still affable.

Mystical Woods is a script and caps font duo. I went back to the basics for this one -- ink and a brush on paper. I cleaned up the letters enough so that there are no jagged edges, but left enough of the character to keep that inky look -- those are the Rough fonts. Then I went back through again and cleaned the heck out of them, making every line and curve smooth for our cut-crafting friends -- those are the Smooth fonts. Since these two fonts were written together with the same tools and style, you can also mix the script letters in with the caps letters! When designing AM Sans One, it was a great challenge for me to develop a modern sans serif, which despite the large number of existing fonts in this sector has its own unique character. Starting point for the design concept was the cap O, designed as a rectangle with rounded corners, and not as usual as a circle or oval. The O should form the basis for the whole alphabet. Another feature are the characters with oblique starting and end strokes such as "A, V, W". These have not exactly straight, diagonal lines, but have a slight curvature. Thus, these letters do not look too geometric. Also the cap K deviates slightly from the usual shape which makes AM Sans One different from other already existing fonts. I could well imagine applying this font for areas such as engineering or architecture.

This font was created in the beginning as a digital weight in 2012 for use by an engineering digital company. Strait passages second part… I tried in this fifth (that's why she took the name "Pentathlon Pro”) consecutive font family to give her a character style with again a strait way of writing. Walking on the same considerations as the previous series (Khamai, Aeolus, Corset & Artios) I tried to give some sense of diversity for the strait passages of character: those fourteen style are the result. Francker is a sans-serif typeface family based on clean and simple principles of design. The letterforms' curves are inspired by the "super ellipse," a mathematical shape that is about halfway between an ellipse and a rectangle. Lectio is a Roman font based on a Venetian Renaissance early typefaces, but with a modern and expressive design. His obvious calligraphic influence favors continuous text reading.
