Longing is a modern, sans-serif typeface with floral ornaments. It was supposed to have a smart and elegant style and to have a good readability. In addition to the long stems, ascenders and descenders, the oval form is the prime characteristic feature of this beautiful ornamental font. The typeface was designed to work for headlines as well as for short copy.

This all started as a bunch of letter written using a squared paper as a guide. It all turned out fine, but there was something that wasn't quite right...it was boring! I took all the letters and grunge it all up and did all the drips as well - and suddenly that boring look was gone! That was an unlikely development!

Midnight Chalker is, well, a chalk(ish) font and it was (fro the greater part) created around the midnight hour. That’s usually when I get my inspiration. Midnight Chalker is a tall, eroded font - all caps, but the upper and lower case differ and can be mixed. Of course it comes with more diacritics than you can throw a chalkboard at.

I first wanted to call this family Crowbone, after Olaf Tryggvason, the legendary Viking king from Norway. Somehow I changed my mind and went for Crowfeather, because this is not a Viking font and the name ‘felt’ better. I have always been fascinated by Grigory Rasputin, the rogue ‘monk’ who influenced the Russian Tsar Nicholas and - according to rumours - bedded the Tsarina. Grigory font was handmade with the use of a Chinese marker pen and rough paper. Grigory comes with all the trimmings; some alternate glyphs, a few double letter ligatures, a great amount of diacritics and basic Cyrillic as well.

The inspiration for this typeface was discovered on a 1906 travel poster, promoting the Hotel Braunwald, located in the Swiss Alps. Its odd blend of Art-Nouveau-meets-the-Old-West makes for fetching heads and subheads. Both versions include the complete Unicode Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as well as localization for Lithuanian, Moldovan and Romanian.

There are many sans serif typefaces with calligraphic tendencies, but Suomi Sans is different: the outside forms are fairly basic, fairly narrow sans serif style, but the counter forms have a strong calligraphic flair with accented upper left and lower right hand corners. With six weights in Roman and italic, Suomi Sans works well for both headline and text use.

Chiller is the work of British designer Andrew Smith, a chaotic, reckless fun font. Although the ink blots and stray strokes might look undisciplined, the forms of this typeface were carefully planned and it is surprisingly legible even in small point sizes. Cartesian is a modular typeface that gets its namesake from Descartes’s cartesian coordinate plane and Conway’s Game of Life. When Hal Taylor saw the 1930 logo for the Stetson Shoe Company of Weymouth, Massachusetts, he didn't run out and buy a pair of loafers. Instead, he seized on this striking example of an Art Deco logotype as the basis for a new typeface design. “I was impressed with the delicate and sophisticated letter forms,” Taylor recalls, “particularly the enlarged cap S -- in any other case it would have seemed unbalanced, but in the context of this logo, it worked perfectly.” All the letters in the original all-caps Stetson Shoe logo were rendered with condensed proportions except the O, which was a perfect circle. While the prominent O added visual interest to the logo, Taylor knew that such a character would limit his typeface to display applications. For versatility's sake, he drew his O for ITC Stepp with the same proportions as the rest of the alphabet. Taylor also gave the logotype's inverted S a more traditional design, but kept the original as an alternate character in the OpenType font. Taylor's toughest challenge during the design process was creating a lowercase. “A good type design tells you what it wants to be,” he says, “and after a little while the Stepp caps began to tell me what the lowercase should look like.” Taylor's lowercase is slightly more conventional than the caps. The jaunty g" and almost upside-down "s" add subtle charm, while the capital letters provide the broader gestures of Stepp's personality. Together, they create a versatile and distinctive typeface design. One of Hal Taylor's first jobs was as a photo-lettering typographer in Philadelphia, setting headlines and creating custom lettering. This was followed by a stint doing finished lettering for John Langdon, whose ambigrams appear in Dan Brown's best-selling novel, Angels & Demons. Today, Taylor works as a graphic designer in the publishing industry, but he still finds time to create an occasional hand-lettered book jacket, and draw handsome typeface designs. ITC Stepp is available in four weights, ranging from Light to Ultra Bold. All four weights have companion italics, and the lightest three weights also offer a suite of small caps."

Gutta Percha is a font for golfers. It takers its name from a hard, resilient natural substance that comes from the sap of trees grown in southeast Asia and which was used for the hard core of golf balls well into the twentieth century, when it was gradually replaced with synthetic material. It therefore seemed an appropriate name for a font using the image of a golfer of the 1920s. The letters are from our font Besley Clarendon, reduced to 70%. That means that Gutta Percha set at 40 points will have the same size letters as Besley Clarendon set at 28 points. However, it should be noted that the two fonts have different baselines. If you use them together you will have to manually adjust the vertical alignment. Gutta Percha is obviously a very specialized font, both because of the subject matter and because the uppercase is designed for use as dropped caps. There may not be many uses for it, but when it is right, it will be really right. Whether you are publishing a book about the history of golf or a clubhouse bulletin, Gutta Percha will surely be noticed.

In 1529, Geofroy Tory, French scholar, engraver, printer, publisher and poet, was publishing the well known so called Champ Fleury, printed by Gilles de Gourmond, in Paris. It is a fully illustrated handbook where the author explains how to draw Roman characters. The font used for the text - a Humane/Jenson type - was not a very beautiful one, but rough and ready, and the book is well known for its capital letters designs. We are offering here the two complete historical type sets and more -- we have entirely redrawn the lacked letters: J, U and W, Eth, Lslash, Thorn and Oslash in the two initial forms. The text font, 1529 Champ Fleury Regular is now containing all characters for West European (including Celtic), Baltic, East and Central European and Turkish language, and the Initial set 1529 Champ Fleury Init is containing two complete alphabets, with a very great effort to be as close as possible to the original pictures.

The Quandor Family began as a digitization of a film typeface from LetterGraphics known simply as "Impacta". The original specimen included standard Capitals and Lowercase, as well as a Biform character set. We've fleshed out the original style and added an Oblique to the family, but we just couldn't leave it alone at that, and beefed it up to include an Ultra Black and Ultra Black Oblique style as well, because uber heavyweight font styles are the bees knees. Debs was inspired by a thank you note sent from one of my friends to another. The recipient liked the handwriting so much that he passed the note on to me after having asked permission from Debs, the writer. I enjoyed the vigor and looseness of the handwriting, as well as admiring its legibility and style.
