Merc is based on an all-cap metal face called Agitator, designed by Wolfgang Eickhoff and published by Typoart in 1960. The inspiration source for Monarchy Initials is the 1934 Book of American Types by American Type Founders. In that specimen book, they had created a sophisticated two color initial design they called "Stationers Initials" which was only available in metal type at 24, 36, and 48 points. This wonderfully detailed initial style is now digitally recreated and revived for modern use. Monarchy Initials is only capable of initial or single letter monograms due to its unique design. The two color aspect of the original design has been preserved and made accessible within all programs. The Capital character slots contain the background color glyphs, and the lowercase slots hold the outline art for the letters. Canadian designer Patrick Griffin made P22 Counter as an exercise in exploring the limits of counter-space and interchangeability between extremely geometric and standard calligraphic forms. Isabel was made out of necessity to create a new font for children and teenagers, that could be enough friendly and versatile for text in words or even easy-to- read long texts. The purpose of Isabel is to combine all the nice and friendly features of the simple letters that the teachers teach to the pupils at primary school, as they starting to learn to read, together with the normal editorial fonts we read every day. In this way it generates a very joyful serif font, or even friendly font, with some conservative aspects. In other words, Isabel is a font that, despite of being a “classic features” typography, is proud to show its innocent and ingenuous elements, this gives to the font a new point of view. Movie Script is the script that was used in German movie-brochures. Those were small four page leaflets with a lot of sepia-colored pictures about the movie one was about to see. Today those things are collectors items. The script was also used on those hand-painted posters above the cinema entrance. I cleaned up the old script and made it just a little bit more readable, but overall I left it as it was. Of course I added the necessary glyphs for today's world, like Euro and so on. When I was a kid, my grandfather gave me 1 German Mark and I could go to the movies matinee, that was around 10:30 in the morning, the entrance cost something like 60 Pfennig and the rest was for peanuts and a drink. Still today I love my grandfather for that, movies introduced the world to me (no TV then). Your grandfather-loving designer Gert Wiescher

The first purpose of this typeface was to provide an original and systematized style of calligraphy adapted into a modern digital font. The forms are inspired by some illustrations created for a tarot card game, itself inspired by the work of Colombian literature Nobel prize winning author, Gabriel García Márquez, "Cien Años de Soledad". Thirty years after its first appearance, Jovica Veljović has produced ITC New Veljovic Pro, a completely revised edition of his first typeface, ITC Veljovic (1984). Prof. Veljović has tapped into all the experience he has garnered over the past decades; by carefully adjusting the proportions of the characters he has provided the new typeface with a more harmonious presence. The serifs have been subtly curtailed and the letters made slightly more condensed. Some new features of ITC New Veljovic are the double-story “g” with its completely closed loop and the more open forms of the “c” and “e”. In the italic variants, the latter is much rounder. Thanks to Veljović’s outstanding work, the optimized ITC New Veljovic can now be used in all contemporary applications. The new Condensed style saves considerable space when it comes to setting longer texts. WAVE is characterized by curved lines and intricate details. Each character was individually made in Illustrator and Type Tool using my original illustrations. Wave is a decorative font best used for titles or short bursts of texts in large point settings. The typeface is based on the uppercase letterforms, but I have also created lowercase letters, numbers, and glyphs. The motion lines used in the making of Wave mirror an art deco-style. Inspired by an illustration of a large wave, I was fascinated that by using only lines and solid colors we as artists can depict the translucency and ever-changing movement of waves. I began by delicately sketching out all of the letters using graph paper and micron pens. My work always begins with traditional media. I am (trying to) learn Danish using an app on my phone. The grammar and vocabulary are not that difficult, as the Danish language is very close to the Dutch language. The pronunciation, however, is quite tricky. Words look simple when written down, but when pronounced, they sound very different. Take ‘pige’ (‘girl’) - it reads ‘pee-guh’, right? Well, it is pronounced ‘pee-uh’. Or how about ‘brød’ (meaning bread)? If you keep in mind that the o-slash is pronounced as the ‘i’ in bird - almost like ‘uh’, it should be br-uh-d, right? Wrong again. It is pronounced br-uh-l. Aaargghh! I will succeed, hopefully! Utroligt is a Danish word meaning ‘incredible’. It is a nice, uncomplicated all caps font. I made it with a cheap rollerball pen and some nice French paper. Comes with double letter ligatures and all the diacritics you’d like - including the danish ones.

The 1765 Stamp Act ignited in American colonists a simmering distrust of the distant British Parliament, whose oppressive trade duties they deemed unfair assaults on their rights as English subjects. Before long, of course, this little dustup spawned The Boston Tea Party, the American Revolution, and the birth of the U. S. of A. But before the Battles of Lexington and Concord, a group of Philadelphia merchants made one last-ditch call for commercial cooperation across the Atlantic. This futile appeal survives to this day on a three-page broadside, finely engrossed by a penman of the period and passed down through the generations of a family named Remsen. Remsen Script is an interpretation of that penman’s neat, formal cursive—from its broad antique flourishes to its subtle unevenness and gently ragged strokes. Perfect for event announcements, fine product packaging, recreations of historical documents, or anywhere you wish to offer a whiff of a bygone era.

Strangely, human beings fell in love for the stylistic inconsistencies of these fonts made for machines. It was originally inspired by my winter scarf knitting exploits. I discovered that making wool scarves was generating beautiful patterns and I wanted them to become a source of inspiration for a style. I made a few collages, and they became letters. Other characters came up with ease. It is readable, but long essays are not its main purpose. It is decorative and will look casual and very attractive on any ad as a title or a short phrase. It also demonstrates very good performance in automatic 3D generators, like Xara 3D maker, used in making examples of how this font can be utilised. It was designed to be thin, soft, with the capacity to cover empty space and to create a vibrant environment. Small characters are different from capital letters, they are stylistic alternates. Some letters are slightly ominous or dynamic, others create a soothing feeling. Using several colors make it shine, but it is complex, it looks good in monochromatic compositions as well.

In drawing the Avenir® typeface, Adrian Frutiger looked to both the past and the future for inspiration. His goal was to reinterpret the geometric sans serif designs of the early part of the 20th century in a typeface that would portend aesthetics of the 21st century. He succeeded handsomely. In doing so, Frutiger added a bit of organic humanism to the design, freeing Avenir from the rigid geometric overtones of the earlier designs. Avenir is employed on signage at Dallas Fort Worth and Hong Kong international airports. The city of Amsterdam adopted Avenir as its corporate typeface in 2003. The original Avenir family is made up of designs with gradual weight changes in order to satisfy the needs of specific text applications. This type crept up the sense that it was made in Eastern Europe by poorly trained urbanites from a crippled nation, or that it is the remains of a contemporary gothic (like Eckmann) stencil. The choice of what this type signifies is up to the public. Lately I like the idea of 'putting on' (in McLuhan's sense) a genre of idea that is somewhat different from my tradition's beliefs, and fitting a core category of that toward a teleological/eschatological advantage. Therefore postmodernist/apocalyptic carelessness (which I may 'put on' by using this type) is how I abstain from the cravings of immortality, or more so that wanting it is pointless. It’s stands as memento morí; that I will have to die someday. I have to become less, He must become more. Of course, Interzone may signify a classic Joy Division track from Unknown Pleasures as well as the Cold Warish ongoings of conflicted eastern European life. I considered naming this Lunik 9.

Right on the heels of the tremendous popularity wave that made Hollandse Mediaeval the most used Dutch typeface during the Great War years, Sjoerd H. de Roos was asked to design a 15 point type for De Zilverdistel, Jean François van Royen’s publishing company. So between 1914 and 1916, de Roos and van Royen collaborated on the typeface eventually known as Zilvertype, and which both parties viewed as an improved version of Hollandse Mediaeveal. Like Hollandse Mediaeval, Zilvertype was based on the Jenson model, but it is simpler, with more traditional metrics, lighter and more classic in color. This Pro digital version of Zilvertype comes expanded in all directions. It contains a roman, a bold and an italic. Each font contains over 685 glyphs, including small caps, eight different sets of figures, plenty of ligatures, some Dutch ornaments, and extended language support covering most Latin languages. Zilvertype Initials is also there to round out this distinctively Dutch text family and make it ideal for immersive text design.

In the year 1791, the 20th of June, the king of France Louis XVI attempted to flight from Paris to the Luxembourg. He was intercepted on the road and taked to Paris again on the 21st. A few month later, in September, the first French democratic constitution was promulgated, transferring the sovereignty from the king to the French people. This font was created inspired from the steady hand of a lawyer writing a farm renting contract a few days after the advent of the new French regime. It is a "Pro" font containing Western (including Celtic) and Northern European, Icelandic, Baltic, Eastern, Central European and Turquish diacritics. The numerous alternates and ligatures allow to made the font looking as closely as possible to a real hand. Using an OTF software, the features allow to vary the characters without anything to do but to select contextual alternates and standard ligatures and/or stylistic alternates options.

ITC Hedera's roots can be traced to a suite of initials intended for book design. Olivera Stojadinovic, the face's designer, made the first sketches for the initials with a handmade tool consisting of two flexible metal strips tied to a wooden handle. This makeshift pen created the distinctive uneven double strokes of the letterforms. Stojadinovic says that she tried to keep the original flavor of the sketches in the finished font. Stroke roughness has been preserved in final execution, though the characters had some cleaning and polishing," she notes. Based on Renaissance letterforms, ITC Hedera has a classical quality that complements its calligraphic exuberance. The name Hedera? According to Stojadinovic, "It's the name of a common ivy. I chose it because of the organic image of the character strokes, which, to me, resemble shapes from nature's leaves or stems of plants." Genesis is a digitization and expansion of a Frank Riley metal typeface called Grayda, originally published to much applause by ATF in 1939. The concept for this disconnected script is quite novel and original among cursives and calligraphic fonts: The minuscules are mostly made with slightly clubbed strokes, which becomes clearly visible in the ascenders and descenders. This alone gives the face a bubbly appearance unlike any other. The formula is completed with two sets of beautiful calligraphic majuscules and a few alternates.
