The underlying matrix common to each weight allows experimentation with overlays, and mixing weights produces varying effects. Foundry Plek used conventionally works well for serious correspondence, with a 'typewriter font' effect. Foundry Flek has an integral dot matrix grid as a background. Railhead is a revival of an 1870s type style that was originally available from both the Bruce foundry in New York and James Conner's Sons type foundry. The Redux version is the original design but only the uppercase and punctuation were ever created the rest of this font design including numbers, accented characters and lowercase are of my own design. Looking at the original font the inside rails reminded me of a railroad so I created a new version by adding horizontal lines in the lower portion of each letter which resemble railroad ties and Railhead seemed to be the most logical name for this old revival.

Ames’ text is designed for use in its own right and also as a complement to our Ames’ Roman family. Ames’ text is a ‘New-Style’ Didone family offered in three weights and three widths. It is designed to embody clarity combined with contrast between horizontal and vertical strokes, but with sufficient stroke width in both directions to display well at small point sizes. All typefaces include small capital forms, new and old style numerals (and ‘small capital’ numerals for consistency). Ames’ text is distinctive enough for use in headings and titles, but comes into it own as a text face. Keep a lookout for our forthcoming Ames Display faces…

Bo Berndal, the master Swedish typographer, is the eponymous designer of Berndal, a contemporary text family with five different styles. This family represents a new achievement for Bo Berndal, who has spent many years working to optimize text legibility in the printed media. Several small tricks make the Berndal family an interesting milestone in legibility. Berndal's letterforms contain large x-heights. Large x-heights open up the counterforms of letters, making text appear lighter on a page, but their correspondingly shorter ascenders and descenders can hinder legibility. This does not occur in Berndal at all! Coupled with this experiment, Berndal's various font weights display a certain softness and roundness. The letterforms themselves are relatively wide, with an overall consistency in width. The calligraphic nature of the strokes has been minimized, yet a contrast stroke-thickness is still to be noticed within the alphabet. Berndal's five styles offer almost everything that one could want from a good text family. The Regular weight may be paired with Small Caps, Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic. All styles ship in the OpenType format, and include tabular and old style figures. The two italic weights are made up of true italics, not obliques. The Berndal family is a part of the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype GmbH."

Named after the Ribfest held in Naperville IL over 4th of July weekend each year, this font will be perfect for your next summer barbecue party. The rounded forms found in Chennai have proven to be one of insigne's more popular designs for web-based company logotypes. Hermann Zapf and Akira Kobayashi redeveloped Palatino for the 21st Century, creating Palatino nova. The Palatino nova family also includes revised versions of Aldus (now called Aldus nova). A bold weight is added into the font family. The character set support is similar to Palatino nova, but Greek and Cyrillic are not available in book weight fonts.

One of the type examples found within the pages of “Lettering” by Harry B. Wright (1950) is a bold hand lettered serif typeface with a unique twist – the slab serifs had rounded corners, looking very much like show card lettering of the early 1900s. This design is now available digitally as Maybrook JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

The October 5, 1935 issue of “Universal Weekly” (a publication detailing current film releases from Universal) was promoting the film “Remember Last Night”. Hand lettering used for this advertisement was an ultra-bold sans serif design with chamfered corners and some stylized characters. This is now available digitally as Road Work JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

A small book entitled “Portfolio of Alphabet Designs for Artists, Architects, Designers & Craftsmen” [published in 1938 by Irene K. Ames] contained a number of pages displaying hand lettered alphabet examples. One sample in particular stood out for its bold Art Deco look and unusual design. This is now available as Dance Moderne JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

The 1920 edition of “How to Paint Signs and Sho’ Cards” by E. C. Matthews offered a number of examples of then-modern lettering styles for sign painters and show card writers. A bold display alphabet made with a round lettering nib is now available as Show Card Pen JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

In the December, 1947 issue of Modern Screen magazine, a feature article showcased actress Deborah Kerr with the title “Imported”. The typography used for the headline of the article was a hand lettered, extra-bold, sans serif stencil design. This lettering became the inspiration for Imported Goods JNL, which is now available in both regular and oblique versions.

A June 18, 1929 issue of the Hollywood trade paper “The Film Daily” ran an ad for a film called “The Power House”. The film’s title was hand lettered in an extra bold sans serif design with strong Art Deco influences. This is now available digitally as Deco Power JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Here's a new take on an old dry-transfer standard from the 70s named Barrio. This unicase version features several handy ligatures not found in the original typeface, which will substitute in OpenType-savvy applications when the lowercase combos are typed. This font contains the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus support for Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

This new OpenType pro family has four members so far with 588 characters and glyphs each. It is a redrawing of Diaconia Old Style, which has been worked hard and found to be very readable, elegant, and extremely useful for books, newsletters, or anything you need. It is elegant enough to use the regular weight as huge display type over 200 point.

Oh,no - Oh, yes.. here is the new font "oh, no". The design of the letters is suitable both for implying the elegance of old times and the uniqueness of modern world. One of the greatest advantages of the font is that its style makes it good for expressing different ideas, so it can suit anything you could possibly use it for!

An irresistible design by my (11 year old) Granddaughter; it brings that child innocence to font design. When she first showed it to me I was so impressed I could not resist I had to make it into her very own font. Alexandra is also the designer of the font flag and says she is working on new font ideas.

Saloon Girl is a revival of an old classic font used by sign painters and includes the rarely seen lowercase. Saloon Girl comes with extra fill fonts, you will need an application that works in layers in order to use the fill fonts that come with FontMesa fonts. In this all new 2020 version we've added case sensitive form, small caps and italics.

A while back I created a nice font called Harimau. It is a childish font, with a happy feel to it. Harimau had some unusual glyphs, most notably the 'g' and the 'j', which, for some designers, were a little too unusual. Therefore I have created a new font based on the old Harimau: it is similar, but comes with 'normal' glyphs.
