ITC Kendo is the work of British designer Phill Grimshaw, suggesting the dash and verve of quick, sketchy calligraphy, complete with splatters of ink. Grimshaw says he worked deliberately against his own habits to create the forms, drawing the letters with slow deliberation" and a pointed pen. He overloaded the pen with ink and drew on rough paper, "applying a lot of pressure at the beginning of a stroke and easing off towards the terminals. Accidental splashes occurred frequently owing to the nib catching the 'tooth' of the paper." Those splashes were refined into features which enhance but do not overwhelm the characters and carefully worked so as not to leave an obvious white strip of unsplattered space between lines and letters. The initial capitals can be used alone or combined with the lowercase alphabet, and the font includes a full set of f-ligatures and some extra ligatures as well as decorative elements."

Ice Creamery is a new variation of our Saloon Girl font family complete with italics and fill fonts which may be used to layer different colors into the open parts of each glyph. We don’t recommend using the fill fonts for Ice Creamery as stand alone solid fonts, Ice Creamery Chocolate was designed as a the stand alone solid font for this font family. Fill fonts go back to the 1850's where they would design matched sets of printing blocks and the layering of colors took place on the printing press, they would print a page in black then on a second printing they would print a solid letter in red or blue over the letters with open spaces to fill them in. Most of the time the second printing didn't line up exactly to the open faced font and it created a misprinted look. With the fill fonts in Ice Creamery and other FontMesa fonts you have the option to perfectly align the fill fonts with the open faced fonts or shift it a little to create a misprinted look which looks pretty cool in some projects such as t-shirt designs. I have some ice cream making history in my family, my Grandfather Fred Hagemann was the manager of the ice cream plant for thirty years at Cock Robin Ice Cream and Burgers in Naperville IL. In the images above I've included an old 1960's photo of the Cock Robin Naperville location, the ice cream plant was behind the restaurant as seen by the chimney stack which was part of the plant. If you were to travel 2000 feet directly behind the Cock Robin sign in the photo, that's where I started the FontMesa type foundry at my home in Naperville. My favorite ice cream flavor was their green pistachio ice cream with black cherries, they called it Spumoni even though it wasn't a true Spumoni recipe. Their butter pecan ice cream was also incredibly good, the pecans were super fresh, their Tin Roof Sundae ice cream was chocolate fudge, caramel and peanuts swirled into vanilla ice cream. One unique thing about Cock Robin and Prince Castle was they used a square ice cream scoop for their sundaes.

Music Sheets is a font that will produce blank music manuscript sheets, giving the main Clefs, Time Signatures, Stafflines, Guitar Tab, plus other useful symbols - in fact all you need to make simple manuscript of your own design, so you can put in the notation yourself. You can use it with ordinary Word Processors or top-end graphics programs equally easily. Using it is extremely simple - for instance into the text-box below type TBA for Treble Bass Alto Clefs, or 234567 for the basic Time Signatures from 2/4 up to 7/4, or L for the Lines. Essentially it’s a cut-down and slightly modified version of our Blank Manuscript font, (which is fairly comprehensive for more advanced scoresheets but obviously a bit more complex) and uses a similar intuitive method for inputting characters. There’s plenty of examples provided, plus a short guide explaining the character layout, which is extremely easy. The Siseriff family of types contains nine different styles, which were developed by the master Swedish typographer Bo Berndal in 2002. Siseriff is a contemporary slab serif face. Guilloches were – in the old days – used to make the falsification of banknotes more difficult. The engraving of these intricate lines was done by a highly specialized mechanical machine, which was operated by an equally highly specialized engraving artist. Once the settings for a specific curve were changed back to zero it was very difficult, if not impossible to set them back to the old design. I have designed a useful set of Guilloches that join to form ribbons that create a kind of op-art 3d effect. Under the keys A-U and a-u you find joining pieces. Under the keys V-Z and v-z I placed start- and endpieces. 0-4 are different lenght straight extensions and 5-9 are not quite so straight extensions. All other keys are corner pieces that can be used as stand-alones or put in rows to make for superb decoration. Gunsmoke is a revival of a James Conner's Sons font that's been listed under different names such as Extended Clarendon Shaded, Original Ornamented and Galena. Dating back to 1888 this font was available with an original lowercase, numbers and punctuation. Today we've expanded the set to include the original shaded version a regular black, open left, open right and a fill font for the two open faced versions. The single Gunsmoke fill font is in alignment with the Gunsmoke Open R version and will also work with Gunsmoke Open L by shifting your fill font layer to align with the Open L version. You will need an application that works in layers in order to use the fill font with the Gunsmoke Open L and R fonts. Make sure you check out the left and right pointing gun hands on the less than and greater than keys, the gun alone is on the left and right brace keys. Remember to check your gun in with the Marshal when entering Dodge City.

What happens when historical calligraphy and modern lettering kiss? Liesel! This six-font, hand-lettered family is loosely based on traditional letterforms. Used alone, Liesel Regular reflects a warm, antique aesthetic. But when you pair her with Brush, Pencil, and Shadow - all of which were designed for layering - a modern, artistic look emerges! Experiment with textures, overlays and blending modes to create realistic water colored text. Both Liesel Printed & Liesel Shadow Printed are highly detailed, distressed versions of their solid counterparts, and can be layered to recreate an authentic letterpress or screen printed effect. Opentype features programmed into each text font include contextual alternates, stylistic alternates, swashes, true fractions, and old style numerals. Each Liesel font features PUA coding so all characters, including swashes and alternates, can be accessed with Character Viewer (Mac), Character Map (PC) or PopChar. The Nasrallah family follows the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style. It has one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in Unicode Standards version 5.1, and one additional, final-position, glyph for each Arabic letter that is normally connected with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Nasrallah employs variable x-height values. It includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and uses ligature substitutions and selected marks positioning but it does not use any other glyph substitutions or forming. Text strings composed using types of this family are non-cursive with stand-alone isolated glyphs. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph isolated form. Keying it before Alif Lam Lam Ha will display the Allah ligature. Nasrallah family includes both Arabic and Arabic-Indic numerals; all required diacritic marks, Allah ligature, in addition to all standard English keyboard punctuations and major currency symbols. Fonts are available in regular and italic styles.

Thystle is a "font for all seasons". It has six styles ranging from fine to in-your-face, from delicate mono-weight pen strokes to fully calligraphic lines, from delicate, narrow characters to bold, powerful statements. Characteristically, all the styles abound with Anton Scholtz's energetic "creative common" style - extravagant capitals, clear characters, and bursting-with-life swashes. Three Thystle styles are calligraphic. You can use: - Regular for invitations, poems, greeting cards and body text - Black for swing tags, music media, menus and sub-headings - Fat for posters, book covers and headings Three Thystle styles are monolinear. The letters of Trapezoidal are like sheep: they do not like being alone but want to be part of a flock. Many of the individual letters of Trapezoidal look strange and unshapely in isolation because they are designed to fit into a pattern with other letters. That pattern is formed by alternating asymmetric trapezoids, with trapezoids that are wide at the top alternating with trapezoids that are wide at the bottom. The magic of the OpenType feature of contextual alternatives (calt) automatically alternates them. The fonts in the family are largely monospaced and have very tight letter spacing. (If for some reason one wants to use only one set of the letters, the letters will overlap unless one widens character spacing.) (If D and O are too similar, use the alternative versions of D.) The family has five weights and each weight has an italics formed by flipping the trapezoidal pattern over a vertical line. Like other alternating-character typeface families from IngrimayneType, this distinctive and visually-arresting family can be used for titles or advertising. The Vinča script is a cache of symbols found belonging to the Vinča culture of the central Balkans over 7000 years ago. The symbols have been a topic of debate amongst historians. The Tărtăria tablets are three tablets discovered in 1961 in the village of Tărtăria(Hungarian: Alsótatárlaka). This is about 30 km (19 mi) from Alba Iulia in Romania.The tablets, dated to around 5300 BC, have symbols inclay: the Vinča symbols. Some claim they are a yet undeciphered language. If this is so, they would be the earliest known form of writing. In 1908 similar symbols were found during excavations, by Miloje Vasić (1869–1956) in Vinča. This is a suburb of Belgrade (Serbia), some 300 km from Turdaș. Later, more were found in another part of Belgrade. Since 1875 over one hundred and fifty Vinča sites have been found in Serbia alone. Many, including Vinča itself, have not been fully excavated. The culture of the whole area is called the Vinča culture. Although some of these symbols look exactly the same as some letters in Etruscan, Greek, and Aramaic, they are generally regarded as a an original, independent development.

Have you ever played with Lego™ and built letters? With Billund Side and Billund Top you can do it again and create colourful headlines on your Mac or PC. Billund is a font-system consisting of the two base-fonts Billund Side Outline and Billund Top Outline, extended by layer-fonts for one or five colours. Use the Outline-fonts alone to get »transparent« letters in one colour, use it with the Fill-fonts to fill the whole letter with one colour, or use the five Colour-fonts to get colourful letters in every colour you want. Billund contains cyrillic and greek glyphs and can be used for nearly a hundred languages. To expand the typographic possibilities, small caps, old style figures, numerals for small caps (c2sc), three stylistic sets, different symbols, forms, standard- and discretionary ligatures have been added, furthermore contextual alternates to avoid colliding letters. Each Billund-font contains 870 glyphs and more than 1600 kerning-pairs. Billund is named after the city of Billund (Denmark), where Lego™ was invented, the Lego™-headquarter still resides and the first Legoland™ theme park was opened in 1968 and still exists today.

Filigree, reminiscent of the delicate lace and jewelry produced in Europe in the 16th to 18th centuries, was inspired by the font Always, and by the way in which the threads (or filia) of the characters in Always intertwined. It has a soft, wafty character. It is best used as a display font at a relatively large size. At too small a size the delicacy of the individual filaments will be lost. Best results also from a combination of upper and lower case characters. Using upper case characters alone will not look as good. Alternate characters and ligatures are also included. If your application program supports "kerning" then I suggest that you turn it on. Although not essential, this will enhance the spacing of the letters. The font contains over 272 characters - (upper and lower case characters, punctuation, numerals, symbols and accented characters are present). It also includes a number of "open-type" characters - these enhance the flexibility of the font by providing alternatives that are used either at the discretion of the designer or are determined by the circumstances in which the font is used. It has all the accented characters used in the major European languages.
