Mr Brown is a typeface based on hand drawn letters to our new book for children. It has up to four alternate glyphs for each character. You can switch them manually or use OpenType Contextual Alternates feature. It will automatically set alternate glyphs de-pending on frequency of appearance of the same character. The script doesn’t throw random glyphs. For example in the word “HIPPOPOTAMUS” you will automatically get three different “P” glyphs and two “O” glyphs. It really works great but of course you can always fine tune it by hand.

Leksa is an oldstyle, even a bit old-fashioned text family in 12 faces, including six upright and six italic ones, from Light to Black, with both oldstyle and tabular digits and true small caps. The typeface works best in the books of classical style, and looks good in both small and large point sizes. One of the main features of the typeface is its professionally-designed Cyrillic which (together with sans-serif companion Leksa Sans) was awarded for excellence in type design at Modern Cyrillic competition in Superfamilies category.

New Letter Gothic was designed for ParaType by Gayaneh Bagdasaryan based on monospaced Letter Gothic font by Roger Roberson, 1956–62. Due to clear and easy-to-read lettershapes of Letter Gothic the font is rather popular now for display and advertising matters. The idea was to create a font similar to Letter Gothic in lettershapes but with proportional widths of letters. For use in both display and text setting. New Letter Gothic has been adjudged an Award for Excellence in Type Design at Kyrillitsa ’99 International Type Design competition in Moscow, 1999.

The font Kyiv is an attempt to unite old-style antiqua with the Ukrainian tradition and modern requirements. Besides having usual italics the Renaissance tradition of "semi-italics" renewed, compact weights are also provided. Special charm is added by decorative motives of chestnut leaves and flowers. The weights are included in a way to promote the solution of various tasks both text, and an accidental set in various combinations. The font Kyiv was awarded the 2nd prize in category of text fonts in the first Ukrainian typeface competition Ruthenia in 2010.

The English roundhand has always occupied the central position in the group of faces appropriate to the social printing handled by engravers, and their contemporary imitators, thermographers. At the end of the nineteenth century when engraving was mechanised by the pantographic engraving machine, the traditional roundhands found their way onto pantographic pattern plates. Embassy is a traditional roundhand of vigorous contrast with straightforward capitals with ball terminals; it was transferred from such an engravers’ pattern plate to the Fotosetter at Intertype about 1955. Alphatype’s Yorktown is similar, but appears to have less contrast.

Bombelli is a font that looks like it has been handwritten by a meticulous architect in one of those hand-drawn blueprints of the old days. I chose the name to honor one of my ex-bosses -- a graphic designer-architect who taught me a lot of things when I was young and needed the money. Nono is the nickname of my oldest son, Konstantin. His little brother could not really speak yet, but he was always looking for him and said something to the tune of, "wea is a nono". From that time on I call Konstantin Nono. I designed a handwritten script with his real name, that i named Konstantin. Now I made this slick version of that script – hence – Nono! Tale is an experiment to convert the script-style calligraphy into bitmap format. In 1066, William, duke of Normandy, was invading England. He was demanding the crown for himself, against King Harold the Saxon. He killed Harold and reached the crown at Hastings, the well-known battlefield. A few years later, in Bayeux (Normandy, French)was displayed a large tapestry (almost 70 m long) who was telling the story of the conquest. Along the tapestry was written a comment in Latin, using Roman capitals influenced a little by English or Scandinavian style (as it is visible in the Eth character). We have created the font, inspired from this design, adapted for contemporary users, making difference between U and V, I and J, which has not any relevance for ancient Latin scribes, and naturally with Thorn, Oslash, Lslash... and usual accented characters did not exist at the time. We also have reconstructed the K, German double s and Z, always using patterns of the time. We have scrupulously respected the poetic irregular and distressed original forms with two or three alternate for each characters, including reconstructed numerals.

In the early 1980s, at the start of my career, I had the opportunity to work in a print shop with classic lead setting. In those days I would study issues of U&lc magazine from ITC. What really caught my attention were scripts in the Spencerian style. I’ve been fascinated by this American penmanship tradition ever since. A few years ago I developed a font. Boris Bencic used it when he was redesigning L’Officiel magazine in Paris. I took these initial forms and developed them into the font Mommie when I started my own foundry. Although I usually design text typefaces, working on Mommie taught me how complex it can be to create a script headline font. The biggest challenge in this process has been to keep it alive and fresh. The Regular weight is only made for very big headlines. The thin lines with the bold drops are very elegant. For smaller sizes use the Medium and Small weight. It won the TDC 2008 award and was Judges Choice of Christian Schwartz.

Eponymous is an Egyptian-style typeface with chunky, scalloped serifs. It is available in five weights in both roman and italic. I have always loved slab serif type and have created Eponymous to fulfil a yearning for a versatile, stylish and contemporary slab face. A key design characteristic is the implementation of scalloped serifs which, to me, imbues the typeface with a distinctive personality. Make use of the Open Type features that are part of Eponymous. I arrived this concept as a means to fulfil a need for a simple yet radical semi-sans with rounded terminals. My concept called for a modular approach so a single weight font family resulted, the monoline stroke weights being one-eighth of the cap height and the x-height five-eights, the descent two units. Within these constraints I found it was simple to devise an alphabet which met my need for quirkiness whilst retaining its legibility. As for the outline, shadow and contour variants - well they just seem to work. In order to give new imput to the art of typeface design in Italy, Nebiolo Company held, in March 1910, an artistic competition for a new alphabet conception, so the best-ranked design would be transformed into a real new typeface. 42 competitors participated and, although the first prize was not technically awarded, "Ancora" resulted as the best typeface, created by the designer-typographer Natale Varetti of Turin. Nonetheless, the new alphabet was transformed into a full-fledged metal typeface in 1924, renamed "Tanagra" in honor of the Greek city in the center of Boeotia. The new font, although not significantly detached from the classical Roman form, introduced decorative elements that allowed its use in both rational and artistic compositions. This font appears very clear and easy to read, with very high ascenders and some decorations that make it distinctly retrò. Finally, after almost 100 years, this peculiar character has been digitized taking it as a model the shapes of the 16 points size (other dimensions have significantly different contrasts and proportions). To adapt it to modern use, some glyphs have been modified, but all the originals are available as Stylistic Alternate OTF, as well as all the swashed variants while the missing ones were added.

I really like the moments when classic meets modern. Mathieu was inspired, by the proportions, texture and elegance of Renaissance typefaces, and by the works of Dutch typographers, in whom I have always appreciated the balance between the traditional approach and experiment. Mathieu has the features of a sans-serif typeface, but you can feel delicate notes of calligraphy through humanistic details. The whole family has several width options complemented by a slightly slanted but expressive italics – making it suitable for both longer texts and for use in visual identities. Karol Mularczyk and Małgorzata Bartosik worked on the project creatively directed by Mateusz Machalski.

They are optical corrected and there is always the same distance between the dots, with the aim to create more harmonic letterforms. Wave is a decorative font best used for titles or short bursts of texts in large point settings. The typeface is based on the uppercase letterforms, but I have also created lowercase letters, numbers, and glyphs. The motion lines used in the making of Wave mirror an art deco-style. Inspired by an illustration of a large wave, I was fascinated that by using only lines and solid colors we as artists can depict the translucency and ever-changing movement of waves. I began by delicately sketching out all of the letters using graph paper and micron pens. My work always begins with traditional media. I'm an illustrator, freelance artist, and graphic designer from Chicago, IL. Espinosa Nova is a revival based on the types used by Antonio de Espinosa, the most important Mexican printer of the sixteenth century and very probably the first punchcutter anywhere in the American continent (1551). In 2010, its main fonts were awarded two certificates of excellence: one by TDC2 (Type Directors Club Typeface Design Competition), one by Tipos Latinos (Biennial of Latin American Typography). According to Robert Bringhurst, it is “an unusually intelligent family of type, reaching back to one of the most exciting moments in typographic history and reaching forward to the typographic future”. All of the fonts intended for setting text include small caps, five sets of figures (oldstyle and lining, both proportional and tabular, plus tabular small caps), many f and long s ligatures, and capital sharp S (U+1E9E). In addition, the Capitular fonts allow to create interesting effects by overlapping layers. This family feels very comfortable in books, but it can be used everywhere a touch of classic & elegance is required.
