Despite its macabre-sounding name, Headstone Roman JNL is not a novelty font for Halloween or horror movies. Instead, it's an attractive Roman typeface based on an example provided of a guide for stonecutters to use when cutting epitaphs into tombstones. RM Sans has been designed to offer an useful but inexpensive family of 5 regular weights; 3 condensed weights; 5 outline weights and an 'eco' alternative. Due to the modular nature of this design there may be a slight lack of smoothness to the curves at very large point sizes (around 100 pt and above).

A 1930s WPA (Works Progress Administration) poster advertising an exhibit of New Jersey area posters had its main lettering rendered in a very condensed hand lettered interpretation of the ever-popular Futura Black Art Deco style. This has now been re-drawn and digitized as Art Event JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

An online photo gallery showcased a number of vintage and unique signs around Europe – mostly from Germany. One particular sign (“1818-Hoofdkant Spaarbank-1921”) was formed in metal and with stencil letters of a distinctive 1970s feel. This served as the model for Euro Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Bold and squared with rounded corners, the hand lettering found within the November, 1936 issue of Radio Mirror magazine really stands out. An image found online of the first [1923] “Oreo Sandwich” package provided a type inspiration from the pen-lettered block sans with rounded corners used for the product's name. Prior to 1923, the cookies were sold in boxes or tins. The result is Packaged Cookies JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Designing this was a wonderful exercise in ignoring all the rules of precise geometric construction to which we normally work.
