Vagabond is a vintage font family whose natural home is on the back porch, ranch or railroad. A rugged slab serif with a lived-in look, it’s lends a note of earthy authenticity to any graphic design project.

Esca is a display typeface designed by Jim Ford with highly compressed proportions yet with a subtle calligraphic touch. This Lite version of the typeface was designed as part of a font marathon over the course of 3.5 days in Monotype’s NY office. The design started with the aim of fitting 4 letters onto one sheet of paper and the resulting typeface keeps that tight proportion. The Esca design is mixed case and is ideally suited for logos, short headlines, and album covers. It has a great architectural feel to it that makes it suitable in signage applications and large scale settings. The Arta font family was designed by David Quay in 1991. Its hand lettered appearance makes Arty a good choice for advertising and other promotional materials.

Cowhand is a display typeface designed by Toshi Omagari to keep words at one specific width. Words of one letter will have one very wide character, words of two letters will have characters of half that width and so forth. At the maximum of 20-letter words, characters become very tightly compressed. The design of the Cowhand typeface is inspired by western style block printing with reverse stress that is characterised by chunky slab serifs. This Lite version of the typeface was designed as part of a font marathon over the course of 3.5 days in Monotype’s NY office. ITC Caribbean is the work of California designer Jill Bell, earthy yet exotic. In her typeface experiment, Bell combined unusual angles and curves to produce tall, thin letters whose stroke style completes the suggestion of palm trees which this typeface brings to mind. The typeface contains capitals and small caps. The natural look of ITC Caribbean lends any work a human touch.

Kaldi is a tall condensed typeface that has gone through a natural process of handcraft and refinement to produce a speciality blend. On consumption expect light and dense notes with an earthy undertone. This font family was inspired by the legend of Kaldi – the goat herder who discovered the coffee plant after his goats started dancing after eating the coffee cherries.

Tactical is nothing more than a testosterone-laced typeface. Rigid, mechanical and unforgiving. Originally conceived in 2007 while I was working through the early sketches of Ginza, Tactical features hard 45-degree angles and the presence of a curve for curve’s sake is just not there. Complimenting the original is a Stencil variant (inspired by the military, marathon video game, explosion-influenced name) and matching Obliques—altogether creating a sharply coordinating family.

In designing a font that had a Mayan or Aztec quality to it without the usual "Mariachi" look, I decided to make it single weight with some open ends and offbeat rounded serifs to give it a more serious feel which will lend itself to other non ethnic uses. I have added a few discretionary ligatures, which also contain old-style numerals, titling caps and small caps. Usage recommendations: Captions, packaging, cards, posters, ads, book jackets, manuals, and menus.

Ornate Deco JNL is a thick-and-thin Art Deco serif typeface with diamond shapes inside the thicker parts of the characters. It is based on an alphabet example found in the 1949 French lettering book “Album de Lettres Arti”, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The French lettering book Album de Lettres Arti (1949) displayed a number of examples of unique, stylized typefaces. One in particular features a multi-line sans serif in a classic Art Deco style with open-ended characters. This design is now available as Sign Studio JNL in both regular and oblique versions.
