TwentyFourNinetyOne [2491] is a reinterpretation of the alphabet of 1919 by Theo van Doesburg; the original a true rendering of the thinking of the Dutch-based art movement “de Stijl.” Jump forward to 1980 and prop lettering used on the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century television series; a vernacular typeface that was a utilitarian mix of geometry and pixel-based forms, used to symbolize the futuristic universe of 2491. At times it would appear on spaceships, laser guns, signage at space ports or in one episode, a Spandex tapestry. It only seemed logical to combine and rethink the letterforms, add ligatures + other extras, and see what the results would be. Giambattista Bodoni (1740–1813) was called the King of Printers and the Bodoni font owes its creation in 1767 to his masterful cutting techniques. Predecessors in a similar style were the typefaces of Pierre Simon Fournier (1712–1768) and the Didot family (1689–1836). The Bodoni font distinguishes itself through the strength of its characters and embodies the rational thinking of the Enlightenment. The new typefaces displaced the Old Face and Transitional styles and was the most popular typeface until the mid-19th century. Bodoni’s influence on typography was dominant until the end of the 19th century and, even today, inspires new creations. The Bodoni Classico of Franco Luin displays less stroke contrast than the original and is therefore also appropriate for smaller point sizes.

Farmer's Marker is an ode to the hobby-farmer and their honest and hardworking (but not too serious) lifestyle. The font reflects a vision of a farmer who quickly scrawls down her produce (72 Eggs + 20L of Milk + 2kg Honey) before she heads off to the market to do her best to sell what she has farmed. It is a casual, freehand, marker script that doesn't take itself too seriously. It is hand drawn by me, then meticulously perfected in Illustrator while leaving in just enough small imperfections that the font retains it's humanistic, hand-drawn and personal feel. The Face2Face (F2F) series was inspired by the techno sound of the mid-1990s, personal computers and new font creation software. For years, Sibylle Schlaich and her friends formed a unique type design collective, which churned out a substantial amount of fresh, new fonts, none of which complied with the traditional rules of typography. Many of these typefaces were used to create layouts for the leading German techno magazine of the 1990s, Frontpage. Schlaich and her fellows would even set in type at 6 points, in order to make it nearly unreadable. It was a pleasure for the kids to read and decrypt these messages! New Old English was prompted by two Victorian coins, the mid nineteenth century gothic crown and gothic florin, which featured a gothic script lowercase with quite modern looking, short ascenders and descenders enabling it to fit snugly around the queen’s head or heraldic motif. With thicker hairline strokes than normal Old English, a less sharp, warmer feel than lettering scripted with a pen, and circular instead of rhombic punctuation, this font is an attempt to capture the round-cornered softness of the die-struck lowercase blackletter. To increase harmony and homogeneity between the cases, the uppercase is narrower and simpler than is customary, without the excessive width or antiquated flamboyance of the traditional blackletter. It might even allow text set in capitals to look acceptable.

The first Tuscan lettering was penned in the mid-fourth century by the calligrapher Furius Dionysius Filocalus. The style was still in common usage as calligraphy when Vincent Figgins designed the first Antique Tuscan for print in 1817. Antique and Gothic Tuscan woodtype fonts appeared in the 1830’s. By the 1850’s, Tuscan fonts had become popular in America. These styles continued in print use into the twentieth century. Tuscan Antique and Gothic styles, borrowed from print and calligraphy, were perfect for signs, posters, handbills and other large format advertising. Sign painter, Frank Atkinson demonstrated several Tuscan forms in his book Sign Painting, A Complete Manual. Modified & Spurred Tuscan Romans were inspired by this and other works of the same period.

The German poet, painter, calligrapher and type designer Emil Rudolf Weiß originally created this eponymous typeface for the Bauer Foundry of Frankfurt. Long known and loved by metal type enthusiasts under the name "Weiss Antiqua," this design was inspired by typefaces from the Italian Renaissance while still distinctly reflecting the artistic and poetic personality of its twentieth-century designer. The hand composition typeface was developed at the Ossip Lehmann type foundry (St. Petersburg) in 1904-07 (after designs by Alexander Leo?). It was redeveloped at Polygraphmash in 1960s for slugcasting composition. Named after Russian Empress Elizabeth I (1709-61). Based on typefaces of George Revillon type foundry of 1840s, though some characters’ shapes were redrawn similar to Russian Academy of Sciences typefaces (mid-18th century). Sharp contrast, strong weight Modern Serif with archaic flavor. The typeface is useful in text and display composition, in fiction, historical, and art books, especially connected to the 18th or 19th centuries. It looks great in Russian classical literature such as Pushkin and Gogol works. The revised, improved and completed digital version was designed at ParaType in 2001 by Lyubov Kuznetsova.
