Candy Bits was originally designed at Bitstream as a custom project for a large printer manufacturer. Released in 1997, Candy Bits was designed by Jim Lyles. The typographic characters were fashioned after a well known American candy. The balance of the characters in the font are designed to enhance the 3D illusion by appearing to recede into the page. Soon after its completion, Mr. Lyles joined a local health club.

A spirited font, Linotype Dropink may remind you of your first attempts with a broad-tipped pen or of schoolwork in days of yore. Prelo Slab is the serif companion to Prelo, a neutral, highly readable typeface, for identity, editorial and information design. With nine weights and nine italics, from Hairline to Black, Prelo Slab is a workhorse typeface, full of OpenType features such as Small Caps, Tabular Figures, Central Europe characters and Historical Figures, among others. Like other DSType fonts, most of the diacritics were designed to fit the gap between the x-height and the caps height, avoiding some common problems with the accented characters. Linotype Scrap is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. The font is available in two weights and was designed by German artist Ingo Preuss. It is as though the forms of the basic weight were cut with scissors out of pieces of paper. There are no inner contours, only the outer silhouettes. The capital letters which make up Scrap Bonus are set on black rectangular backgrounds and are white and framed with a white contour. This weight includes a number of different pictograms which were also not spared the scissors. The decorative Linotype Scrap embodies the comic style of the 1990s and is meant exclusively for headlines of points sizes 18 and larger.

The rasterized square (clear, therefore 4 as part of the font name) was the constructive basis. The intention was to put all characters within this grid and produce a highly structured, yet lively, resting in itself, display font. Relaxed but exciting, just. An absolutely noteworthy detail are the classical construction principles (based on a typography book from the 50's for poster designers), the so-called optical weighting, derived and slightly exaggerated character elements: The characters are not purely symmetrical and the curve shapes do not close justified with the surrounding square. Loops and tongues slightly hang over; the upper bows are slightly less protruding than lower ones, etc. The kerning is tuned to fit these design details: the white space between the characters match the same filling space.
