This is a type design based on a retrospective food design posters from 1950 in the United States. The intention was to create handmade letters ideal for handmade projects. The principal reference was the book of Steven Heller Mid-Century Ads. This typeface was the graduation project of my degree as graphic designer.

Hand lettering from the 1965 movie poster for “The Loved One” – a classic 1960s spurred serif design with added curly-tailed terminals was the working model for Groovy Tuesday JNL – available in both regular and oblique versions.

An ad from the 1930s for a Spanish company called Intex Textiles featured some hand lettering in a bold and unique stencil design. This is now available as Textile Stencil JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Another caps-only font for which we have designed a lowercase. It was originally brought out in smaller sizes for card work, but proved to be so popular that sizes up to 48 point were soon added.

The original Lawabo was started many years ago by Rainer Scheichelbauer. Its ­minimalistic and rounded shapes are reminiscent of bathroom ceramics, hence the name. Schriftlabor designer Miriam Surányi added bold and italic shapes, and produced the family.

Two Cents Plain JNL is a simple sans design for titling, sign work, display ads and so forth. The name is derived from the way folks in the Northeast used to ask for a glass of seltzer water at restaurants and soda fountains decades ago: "Give me a two cents plain." It was always cheaper to order plain seltzer than to have flavored syrup added, and this was especially true in the years during the Great Depression when every penny made a difference.

Balboa is a display design combining elements of early sans serif and grotesque types with contemporary types. It evolved from ATF Headline Gothic, Banner (a headline typeface I drew for the San Francisco Chronicle), and Newsweek No.9, a Stephenson Blake-like grotesque I designed for Roger Black's 1980 redesign of Newsweek Magazine. There are nine styles, including the three new styles that have been added in 2014: Medium, Light and Ultra Light.

The ornamented and magnificent type design used with the color plates of Owen Jones' “The Grammar of Ornament” has served as a model for this nineteenth century typeface. Astoria Antique possesses an intricate and spidery-like quality. Its v-shaped wedge endings make it look like something straight out of an old curiosity shop. In addition, lowercase letters have been added for design convenience. Astoria Antique will make a great choice whenever a period or Victorian look is desired. Astoria Antique is also available in the OpenType Std format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version. Nazare Exuberant is the Poster version of Nazare. This version makes the vintage design more elegant and luxurious. It has super high contrast and the semi-serifs were turned into opulent serifs. Some shapes were redesigned by adding a slight calligraphic feel, making it even more vibrant. This way this design got more organic, more human, more serious, more trustworthy and more luxurious. This is the design for your posters, headlines and actually anything where the letters have a big point size. If you need a more text suitable version you can always use the original Nazare. Another feature is the insertion of some Opentype features: Ligatures were added as well as old style numbers. With its six weights you will have plenty of room for many variations. From the Regular that focus more on elegance to the Heavy that focus more on the lavishness. Regardless of which style you choose Nazare Exuberant is so unique that your designs will not remain unnoticed.

Free form Art Nouveau hand lettering found on many early-1900s ads for various personal care items manufactured by the Colgate Company were the design inspiration for Stylish Nouveau JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
