Mono-Spec is a monospaced family of sans-serif type. At least in default settings, all characters across the typeface share a common width. That fixed setting is condensed, and the aesthetic style of Mono-Spec’s letterforms is very industrial. A sister family, called Mono-Spec Stencil, is also available. Michael Hoffmann manufactures digital fonts for 30 years. At URW++ he contributed to the technological progress. Over the years, he also specialized in the ideal representation of fonts on screen and the complex assembly of international fonts with scripts of all countries. In his latest project he put the emphasis on developing a highly readable typeface. Less interested in the design as in the functionality of this typeface, he designed Arsapia which he has now installed as a system font on all his computers. Michael Hoffmann studied Japanology at the University of Hamburg and traveled in the early years of his professional activity frequently to Japan, there to train the IKARUS font production tools to Japanese customers. In his spare time he plays guitar or golf depending on the weather. The typeface Arsapia has been designed in such a way that all three font styles Light, Regular and Bold have the same width. When a user therefore opts for the use of Arsapia Light, even though he has already written his text in Regular, nothing changes with respect to the letter tracking. When choosing the Bold for emphasis: Nothing changes except the blackness of the letters. A font change does not engender unwanted line and page breaks of itself. Gelion is a large family of geometric sans serif fonts. It ships both as two Variable Fonts or as 16 traditional fonts. Those static fonts span eight different weights, ranging from Extralight to Black. Each has an upright and an italic font on offer. The italics are carefully crafted, with an 8° slope. Gelion is inspired by 20th-century geometric sans serifs and classic neo-grotesque designs from the late 19th century and the middle of the 20th century. Its forms remain true to the gracefully geometric look of its classic predecessors, which will surely tick off any client’s long list of branding requirements. Letters in all of Gelion’s weights are drawn with virtually monolinear strokes. Its lowercase letters have a tall x-height. Yet, that still leaves enough room for the fonts’ diacritical marks. Originally inspired by the numerals on a vintage clock face, Roloi is a layered numbers font in the deco lettering style, and includes a full set of automatic clock symbols. Its geometric forms are typical of the deco style, but stop well-short of pure geometry. Mono-Spec Stencil is a monospaced family of sans-serif type. At least in default settings, all characters across the typeface share a common width, which is immediately noticeable for its condensed nature. Mono-Spec Stencil is a sibling of a non-stencil family, simply named Mono-Spec. Characters in each are just as wide, allowing Mono-Spec Stencil to be used together with Mono-Spec, as a secondary typeface. As a typeface whose characters are stencil-shaped, this design channels the spirit of resistance and street culture. When you look at the family, remember that it ships in two different formats. Depending on your preference, you can install the typeface as a single Variable Font or use the family’s five static OpenType font files instead. Those weights run from Light through Bold. While the static-format fonts offer a good intermediary-step selection, users who install the Variable Font have vastly greater control over their text’s stroke width. The Mono-Spec Stencil Variable Font’s weight axis allows users to differentiate between almost 1,000 possible font weights. Cotton Club remembers the fonts of the thirties of the last century and the Bodoni, but it does not present graces: it is a sans serif. It has 360 glyphs and is composed of two regular and italic styles. Cotton Club is characterized by a high contrast between thick and thin strokes. The emphasized signs give the font an essential, sharp and elegant look. The Italic style of the Cotton Club refers to handwriting and this is noticeable in the ligatures obtained with kerning. The name of the font, “Cotton Club,” refers to the famous Jazz Club in New York, in Harlem, active in the twenties and thirties, during and after Prohibition. Nawin is an informal Arabic typeface inspired by handwriting. The idea behind this design is to create a type family attractive and ownable for children but at the same time a design that keeps excellent letter recognition for reading. Handwriting has been a great source of inspiration in this particular typeface. By emulating the movements of the pen, we have obtained letter shapes that express spontaneity. A bright group of letters create a lively and beautiful paragraph of text. To get closer to handwriting and the variety of letter shapes that we draw while writing, this typeface offers a large number of alternative characters, which differ slightly from the default ones. Because we have programed the «Contextual Alternate» feature in the fonts, these alternate characters appear automatically as you set a text on your computer. For instance, in the Arabic variability on vertical proportions between letters Alef and initial Lam, create movement in text and avoid the cold mechanical feel of repetition. In the case of the Latin a part from having an entire alternate basic alphabet, there are also different letterforms for characters with diacritics, this way variability becomes even greater. Nawin is quirky and elegant at the same time. Letter recognition is relevant when reading continuous text. For this reason, in the Arabic, we have added another contextual alternate feature with alternate characters that help to avoid confusion when letters with similar or the same shape repeat inside one word. This is the case of medial «beh and Yeh» repeated three times continuously in the same word. The alternate characters change in shape and length, facilitating distinction to the reader. Since this typeface is inspired by handwriting and the free movement of the hand while writing, we considered ligatures a good asset for this design. The Arabic has a wide range of ligatures that enhance movement and fluidity in text making look text alive, while the Latin achieves this same effect via contextual alternates.

Taking its name from the arabic word for "king", Malik is a flared sans serif typeface family designed in 2020 by Andrea Tartarelli. The designer wanted to find a way to bridge the classical letterforms of Roman Old Style typefaces with the readability of contemporary sans typefaces. This was achieved by using the so-called flared serif that emerges gradually from the stem of the letter, ending in a sharp angle. It's something that also reminds of the peculiar shapes of the Simoncini Method, invented by italian type designer Francesco Simoncini to get a sharper definition of letterforms. To this blend of classical elegance and modernist expertise, Malik adds the calligraphic influence of modern masters like Frederic Goudy or Ed Benguiat, visible in signature details like the reverse contrast uppercase B, or the calligraphic lowercase k. CA Saygon Text is the logic consequence of CA Saygon. It is much calmer and therefore also suitable for reading texts and everyday’s editorial tasks. Basic shapes and proportions were adopted from Saygon and continued in such a way that a font family from Thin to Extrabold resulted. A fundamental inspiration were early static grotesque typefaces such as Akzidenz Grotesk. Nevertheless, the typeface was by no means intended to have a historical look. Thus, a relatively high x-height was chosen, which makes the typeface quite economical in type-setting, since the letters appear visually larger. A relatively small line spacing with good legibility can be achieved due to the small ascenders and the low cap height. Letters like f and t, which otherwise tend to end in curves, were given right angles, which on the one hand meets certain design elements of the original Saygon, but on the other hand also refers to contemporary trends in typeface design. A special feature are the five styles in which CA Saygon Text can be used. The default setting is the Helvetica style, with two-storey a and g. The Futura style has a single-storey a and a two-storey g accordingly. The third style with two-storey a and three-storey g is called the Franklin style. La vie est une fleur dont l'amour est le miel Fleur is the French for flower and I've chosen this language for a good reason. Over the past 5 years, I've had the opportunity to travel a lot to Paris and I've always tried to catch every moment and detail of this delightful city through the eyes of the designer inside me. Paris is full of surprises, mainly for us, artists. In fact, I believe the city is a museum itself. Every corner of any street has something inspiring. But, there’s something I particularly love and I want to address here: The Palais Garnier. Built between 1861 and 1875, this opera house is a dream made true for many of us, who love somptuosité. Garnier, the architect of this magnificent building, said that the style he proposed was not Grecian nor Roman/baroque, he created something new and called it Napoleonic: Luxurious at its best. Fleur is inspired in this palace which, in fact, has some similar letters inside. Garnier put his name at the ceiling of the Rotonde des Abonnés: Letters are interlacing each other with nicely done art nouveau curves. I thought I could take this idea and achieve something very delicate and imposing at the same time if the font consisted entirely of caps with the logic of a didone and a bit of art-nouveau. This mix of elegance and flamboyance gave birth to Fleur which has a wide range of uses but was mainly intended for perfumes, fashion magazines, storefronts, book covers or logos.
