CAPITALIZED, geometric, bold and round. If the typo­grapher sees a font like that, it's enough to make his toes curl. But sometimes it just has to be that way. Geometrically constructed fonts do not necessarily have to be pointed and angular; It also works consistently around. And if I say it consistently, then in this case, that's done consistently. The basis for the BOULE is the circle. The letters are drawn with constant line width, the “corners“ and endings all have the same radius, the lines are all the same thickness. The BOULE consists only of capitals. There is only one difference in the use of uppercase and lowercase letters: in the uppercase letters, the round letters are circular, while the lowercase letters are narrow. The character set of the Boule contains all letters and accents to support the Western, Northern, Central and Eastern European languages with Latin alphabet. The BOULE is not only very fat, it also runs very tight; that is, the glyphs are very close to each other. These light edges give the font a decorative effect that makes it easy to think of wet sausages or balloons in some shapes. And finally the BOULE Contour. As the name implies, it is the outer contour of the letters, combined with a shadow at the bottom left. The name BOULE (French for ball) says it already: this font is globated. Therefore, it is also very suitable for all three-dimensional alienation effects. With simple light and shadow you can achieve a very convincing 3D effect with little effort.

The bâtarde flamande is a style of writing used predominantly in France and present-day Belgium in the 15th century. The style shares an ancestry with other writing styles traditionally grouped as blackletter— fraktur, textura, rotunda, and schwabacher. It had evolved, however, into an æsthetic far removed from its relatives. While high-contrast in nature, the bâtarde flamande is more delicate and dynamic than the austere and condensed fraktur and textura. Quick curves lack the rigidity of the schwabacher and rotunda. Flair through swashes is thematic, as are the variations in letterforms. The flowing rhythm, achieved through a letterform axis that is overall slightly rightward, is most noticable in the hallmark f and long s. Round forms are fused together for economy of space. It is a writing hand that, with its syncopation and fluidity, produces a vibrance uncharacteristic of other blackletters. Givry has been created in the spirit of the bâtarde flamande. It melds the particular traits compiled from the works of the style’s prominent scribes—Jean Fouquet, Loyset Liédet, and Jean Bourdichon. While suitable as an elegant and energetic display face, Givry was conceived for setting continuous text. The result of many refinements and adjustments is the preservation of the style’s irregular nature, as well as a consistency that continuous-text typography requires. Carefully researched and developed in OpenType format for a wealth of typographic features and support for more than forty languages, Givry is neither derivative nor experimental, but historically accurate. Of the many blackletter digital typefaces available, fraktur and all its connotations have become representative. In contrast, the bâtarde flamande is essentially non-existent in digital form, and has until now been overlooked. Givry provides designers and anyone searching for typographic expression a lively, delicate, and striking side to blackletter.

A rustic black letter from the 1930ies — with stylistic alternates. The high degree of abstraction of this typeface allows it to appear modern, even though its shapes clearly show an origin from Fraktur and Gothic. The letters present the effect of woodcarving or silhouette cuttings as they are defined exclusively with straight lines and sharp corners. By doing without any bowls, the typeface becomes a stylistic entity with a decorative effect. Palmona is especially appealing in combination with bold illustrations. Some of the characters of Palmona are available in one or more alternate forms which can be accessed manually or automatically. Use of these alternates is most easily operated with OpenType-Functions Standard-Ligatures and Discretional Ligatures in the user program. With Standard Ligatures activated, problematic letter compositions are substituted with appropriate ligatures. Likewise, in certain letter combinations the alternates are inserted. The Discretional Ligatures include additional alternatives. Configuration of the characters of the Palmona font is according to Unicode ISO 8859-1 (Latin1). Consequently all characters for all European languages with Latin type are covered — including Turkish, the Baltic languages, East European and Scandinavian languages. Congruent with the time of its origin and typical for black letter typefaces, Palmona also includes a long s as well as — uncommon but definitely reasonable — a capital ß. Both characters are automatically applied with the activation of Discretional Ligatures, and the associated ligatures appear automatically as well. When using ”long s,“ you must ensure the correct use of the rules for the Fraktur font: ”round s“ is always at the end of the word, also in compound words. Breaking from our catalog of typefaces to create a new handwritten font family, Modern Love was born out of our desire to see what would happen if we took a step back from the norm. We weren’t looking for the perfection of the many calligraphy techniques, but more of a natural way of writing with the same tools. Our escapist experiment into casual lettering culminated into 4 fonts: Modern Love Regular, Grunge, Rough and Caps. This is a blocky typeface with thick lines and no serifs. It's a modern design with a hint of vintage lettering with a thicker vertical line on one side of each letter. Most letters are square shaped. The two styles are regualar and hollow, with the hollow style having the thicker areas hollowed out.

Linotype Grafilone is part of the Take Type Library, which features winners of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contest. In creating his font, Bo Berndal combined elements of the constructed and Art Deco styles. Slender and angular, Grafilone is mechanically exact and coolly resesrved. An image spotted on the internet of a brass shipping stencil for the Royal Quality Brand (for the John H. Fitch Company of Youngstown, Ohio – a coffee and spice merchant). The lettering style for “Royal Quality” was a hand-cut, condensed, slightly flared sans serif with various character flourishes, giving the letters a stylish, somewhat regal look. Since I designed Mommie you can see a lot of script typefaces with big contrast for big sizes. With Narziss I created a roman interpretation with the very expressive Swirls version. Glenda is again an italic script like Mommie. In the Regular the characters join and it looks like a neatly written sprencerian handwriting. But like Narziss it has got a Swirls version too. Every glyph and swirl is carefully designed to work in every connection. Use Glenda at only very large sizes.

Sometimes you may be picky about your choices: What’s for dinner? Where are we going for vacation? Vanilla or chocolate? Which font suits this product the best? The answers are many, but on that last question, the answer could be Picky Action - because of the super clean and smooth letters, that goes well with anything that needs a fresh, legible and loose look (without being to loose!) Visoko is a playful, geometric typeface inspired by post-modern fonts designed by Mecanorma from the 80s. This typeface has been designed on a grid of 7×6 squares but the goal was to create variations from the grid to give the character a destructured aspect.
