Pesaro is a new text typeface with a strikingly robust but charming appearance. Inspired by early prints from Venice like Jensen and Manutius, it follows its own formal concept of a contemporary design – a stable typeface with strong text qualities and graphic appeal. The Pesaro family comprised 12 styles and is well suited for ambitious typography. It comes in OpenType format with extended language support. The lettering for Stencil Box JNL was found on the packaging of a children's toy stencil set circa the 1940s. Popular for years, Pencil Stencils were a series of "connect the line" stencils where a series of dashed lines were traced from the cutouts and the lines connected to complete pictures of animals or other subjects. Although the packaging itself was often updated to reflect the current times during the life of the product, it was this hand-lettered example of stencil-meets-Art Deco from the 40s that proved worthy of saving as a digital typeface.

A Lost Art Deco Style Reborn and Multiplied Rhumba began as a digitization of a film typeface from LetterGraphics in the early 70's known as "Barrio Lined". Originally only a single typeface, represented by our Rhumba Lined style, it was fun and offered more diversity to expand out the styles of this gem. Playing off the stylings of fonts like Prisma, Rhumba fills in gaps between the various lines of the original to offer 3 alternate looks. The Rhumba family contains 382 characters per font. Ever since I first designed Ellida in 2005, that elaborate script in the tradition of the 18th-century English calligrapher George Bickham and the 19th-century American calligrapher Platt Rogers Spencer, I wanted to add a very high contrast cut to the family. I finally did so. But the result looks so much different to Ellida that I had to give it another name, hence "Eloise". Eloise should actually be written with a 'i' that has double dots, but that would be difficult for international use. Eloise is a beautiful first name not only for French girls. Pronounce: Ay-low-eese. If I would have had a daughter, I would have called her "Eloise" (with double dots!). But instead I have two phantastic sons, so I never got the chance to use it. A concertina is a kind of musical instrument, not unlike an accordeon. I just liked the name; I have to admit I’m not a particular fan of accordeon music… Concertina is a beautiful handmade script font. A little rough, but elegant as well. It was made with a small Japanese brush pen on coarse paper. Concertina comes with double letter ligatures and end-letter alternates. To access the end-letter alternates, type the letter you want + space (and make sure to tick the ‘ligatures’ box in your OT environment).

Born from the intersection of the geometric and grotesque typefaces. Aribau Grotesk combines low contrast and generous width proportions with typical traits of american gothics from the early 20th century, like the counters aperture and a double story ‘g’. I used to be an exchange student in Canada. I noticed my handwriting was quite different from the handwriting of people who are from countries where the roman alphabet is used. So, I thought why not make a font based on my natural handwriting. This font can be used whenever a cute and different style like mine is needed. These four typefaces, Berlinette NB, Lyonette NB, Marseillette NB and Parisette NB, were designed from the same basic shape, a fanciful geometric form that avoids strict horizontals and uses more offbeat triangular shapes. Marseillette is the nasty one, with sharp hook terminations that require careful use. Don�t slip and accidentally stick one in your hand � it will hurt pretty bad and make you blubber like a baby. It�s good for surreal warning signs on dark, forbidding docks where gooey monsters live.

Cover Up is a roughish font with a lot of character. Its edges are slightly jagged, there is no real baseline and it looks like the whole thing has been sand blasted. Once there, things did not go much better and he had to continue living in the street. A year ago he left behind that life and now he explains his experience in guided tours to school groups: “I like it because I see that many of them are interested and they ask questions. It is good that they learn.”

Chop chop! VLNL Cleaver is an important tool in the Vette Letters’ kitchen. It’s a butcher knife of a font. Razor sharp, ultra heavy and with pointy slanted serifs. At first glance it seems straight-lined, but a closer look revails that all straight lines are curved inward slightly, which enhances the sharp image even more. Cleaver was originally designed by DBXL for cutting meat - hell, it even hacks right through bone. It can easily splice a chicken in one slash or seperate ribs, just like that. You can also very well use it to chop up hard vegetables like pumpkin or squash on the chopping block. It gets better, the opposite blunt side can be deployed to crush ingredients like garlic, nuts or spices like black pepper. You could use a grinder, but with Cleaver it’s more fun, isn’t it? Spy Royal is a junctionless script typeface and comes in 6 styles. It’s a hybrid between script and so called streamline fonts. The origins are based on an advertising by Japan Airlines, dated around 1954, offering flights to San Francisco, Honolulu and Okinawa in the new DC-6B “Pacific Courier” airplane. Only the letters for the words “JAPAN AIR LINES” were used, so that the creative part was to reimagine a full font out of just a handful of uppercase letters. Originally released in 2004, Spy Royal was now undergoing a major rework and is now republished with additional styles like shadow-lines and 3D-shadow.
