Strak is a font that was born out of admiration for the work of E. Vermeulen, a Belgian artist known for his tight, precise line and an unseen masterpiece that is spread around the world. ITC Japanese Garden Ornaments is a symbol font designed by Akira Kobayashi (before Kobayashi became Linotype's Type Director in 2001, he worked as an independent typeface designer in Tokyo). The images in Japanese Garden are, as the name suggests, mostly floral or herbaceous, derived from designs used in Japanese indigo stencil dyeing. In Japanese Garden," Kobayashi says, "I tried to create a set of type fleurons that are very familiar to a Japanese eye, but not too exotic to people in other countries." Several of the designs fit together seamlessly in repeating patterns; others work either together or as isolated ornaments, a flexibility that also characterizes traditional Western type fleurons. "The original illustrations," notes Kobayashi, "were mostly cut from white paper squares, about two by two inches in size, and were simply scanned and traced. That is why there are few smooth curves and perfectly straight lines in the illustrations. I simply liked the ragged textures of them.""

The 10th Regiment of Foot is a British military unit raised more than three centuries ago—and perhaps most famous in the U.S. for seeing action on American soil during the Revolutionary War in the Battle of Lexington and Concord and the Battle of Bunker Hill. Military Scribe is modeled after the compact, utilitarian script on the mid- to late-1770s muster rolls of the Tenth of Foot. I incorporated the work of at least three separate scribes, merging their neat old penmanship into a legible disconnected cursive. Perhaps the most versatile of all our vintage handwriting fonts, Military Scribe might faithfully reproduce antique letters, labels, lists, or just about any document of the period. Baro is a powerful, fun and expressive font, great for loud, cheerful and super-fat headlines and packaging for odd novelty toys. With its bold and distinctive stylized geometric forms, it is ideal for logos, heavy machinery and wacky party invites. Baro had its beginning in a handful of rigidly geometric uppercase letters from an unidentified 1960�s or 70�s era press-down lettering font, which in turn was possibly a revival of a 20�s era Art Deco font. The exercise quickly expanded into a complete typeface with 300+ characters, including several catch words (word glyphs), stylistic alternates, discretionary ligatures, multilingual support and both lining and old style numerals. Baro maintains much of the characteristic geometric rigidity of the original handful of letters, but � With the addition of just a little bit of flare, a bit of cheerfulness breaks through, like a wink and a smile on the face of a fat and otherwise stern policeman.

Core Escher is an optical illusion type family which has two sub-families: Core Escher A and B. Core Escher A has impossible shapes inspired by the optical illusion works of artist M.C. Escher. The letterforms in this type family are structurally twisted and complicated but it looks simple because of its simple strokes. And for easy color variations, it split into two fonts, Core Escher A Left and Right. Core Escher B has a different kind of optical illusion. The letters of Core Escher B look like three dimentions by just putting thin lines on bold letters. Also B has two sub-families that have different viewpoints. Core Escher Family supports complete Basic Latin, Cyrillic, Central European, Turkish, Baltic character sets. Each font includes proportional figures, tabular figures, numerators, denominators, superscript, scientific inferiors, subscript, fractions and case features. “My Dearest Friend” is how she began nearly all her letters to her husband, John. I refer, of course, to Abigail Smith Adams, first Second Lady and second First Lady of the United States. Her famous correspondence with John Adams produced nearly 1,200 letters over a span of some 40 years, leaving us with a priceless record of early American life — from household routines to war and politics to expressions of personal worry and devotion. Although Abigail’s was not the loveliest hand, I found it sure and expressive, as befitting her extraordinary sway and intelligence; it also carries a genuine flavor of the period. In making the font I focused chiefly on her handwriting from the 1780s and ’90s, when she’d taken to using a disconnected cursive, which struck me as distinctive and alluring. OCR-A was originally designed in 1968 as a machine-readable alphabet. Its functionality was its most important element, instead of its design. Over the following decades, the typeface has become popular in the design world nevertheless. But typographically pleasing results are often hard to come by, due to the original design’s “non-design design”, as well as its undeveloped character set. In 2006, Miriam Röttgers revised and extended OCR-A, creating OCR A Tribute. OCR A Tribute is a typeface family comprising of two versions: one in which the glyphs have been proportionally-spaced, and another that is monospaced. In the monospaced version, all glyphs have the same width, like the letters in the original OCR-A font do. Both versions of OCR A Tribute contain complete character sets and expert glyphs, as well as lining and old style figures. Although originally conceived as a magazine face – with strong serifs and open character shapes for good legibility in small sizes, and compact letter forms optimized for narrow columns and tight headlines – Marat evolved into a comprehensive family for general use. Back when OpenType hadn't yet opened and Apple was developing the Line Layout Manager called GX Typography I created a test font that I name after my stepdaughter, Kristen (now ITC Kristen). Not wanting to offend my wife I started on a font project and gave her name to this new set of glyphs, Roberta. Unfortunately, the name was already in use so I needed to find another name for the fonts. After September 11th I decided that there were people I'd met during my life who were truly cut from the cloth of the hero. Master Sargent McLemore of the 75th Ranger Battalion was one of these people. I met the Sarge when I was in basic training at Fort Gordon. I saw him 2 weeks before he died in 1970. All of the heroes we see on the silver screen pale in comparison to this man. John Wayne and Clint Eastwood both have played the type well, both could have taken lessons from the Sarge.

ITC Abaton, by Argentinian designer Luis Siquot, is an exercise in geometry and simplification. “It is done,” says Siquot, “with few elements, with modules of only straight lines (horizontals, verticals and diagonals of almost 45 degrees). Drawing the I and the O, I got the basic elements, and so started the fight between strict geometry and optical impression, until I obtained the rest of the characters.” The basic rectangular form is characterized by wedge-shaped serifs, almost like caps on the heads and feet of the letters. “Abaton has the 'spirit' of 19th-century faces used on money bills or postage stamps, but the realization is totally different,” Siquot explains. Abaton is a “shaded” typeface of caps and slightly smaller caps, upright and slightly condensed in form. Although the letterforms are legible at small sizes, the shading tends to clog up if it gets too small, so Abaton is happiest as a distinctive display face.

Brolly Fight is a fun, slim line font with off-kilter lines. I had so much fun creating this one! It has a stick figure art deco feel. It's fun and playful, with lots of ligatures and alternates to play with. Mix and match lowercase and uppercase letters for a unique look. There are four alternate ampersands, and fun double letter ligatures, as well as playful ligatures for r, k + a, e, o, u combinations. That high lowercase o with an underscore has a twin lowercase a alternate you can access too! Mix and match capitals and lowercase (plus the ligatures & alternates) to create unique text designs. Anago shares the same DNA as its sibling Macha, but is a completely different species than the former or any of my other sans serifs (Aaux Next, Air, Akagi Pro or Wasabi). Soft, ample letterforms are casually constructed and the end result produces a typeface that changes color as it varies in size — allowing the type family to work well in both text and display settings as long as attention is given to size. Anago takes a little but gives a lot.
