This family is very special to me. I started working on it right after my first son was born. I decided to name the typeface "Servus" which means "Hello" in my country. The whole idea of the family symbolizes a child’s growth. It starts with Thin and Narrow weights - just like a newborn baby - then it slowly grows to Black and Wide. As You can guess, my son is quite chubby now! And I can assure You that I put all my love into details. Servus consists of 9 weights which gives us 18 fonts with matching italics. The regular and italic text weights breathe a warm atmosphere, their design inspiration is a relaxed interpretation of the work of 16th-century French type designer Robert Granjon, evoking a comforting rhythm and a sense of familiarity that makes reading enjoyable. On the other end of Thermal's design spectrum lie the extreme weights – thin and heavy –, specifically designed for larger sizes. These weights borrow stylistic cues from several distinct influences: the characteristic woodtype from the 19th century, the sharp lettering styles from the 70s, and the bold work of Oscar Ogg. One of Thermal's disctint features is its italic's 20° inclination, an significant inclination by all standards, this design choice finds its roots in the "Ascendonica Cursive" of 1571, but is a contemporary interpretation that generates a captivating contrast with the regular version. Thermal studies the past and analyzes the present to create a unique blend, bringing a dictint dichotomic identity.

Layal is an Arabetic type design with a calligraphic flavor. It follows the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style with one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in Unicode Standards version 5.1, and one additional, final-position, glyph for each Arabic letter that is normally connected with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Layal employs variable x-height values. It includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and uses ligature substitutions and selected marks positioning but it does not use any other glyph substitutions or forming. Text strings composed using types of this family are non-cursive with stand-alone isolated glyphs. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph isolated form. Keying Tatweel before Alif Lam Lam Ha will display the Allah ligature. It contains a whole lot of stuff that is genuinely good for you. Like proteins, carbohydrates, minerals (calcium a.o.) and many vitamins. One time visiting The Hague, Donald DBXL spotted a tile tableau on a brick wall, advertising a dairy factory called ‘De Sierkan’. Yellow sans serif letters on a bright blue background, dating back to the late 19th century, immediately grabbed DBXL’s attention. Especially because the tableau showed both regular and bold letters with some lovely peculiarities here and there. De Sierkan appeared to have been a milk factory solely operating in The Hague from 1879 until 1961. A number of these wall adverts are still to be seen in The Hague streets today. Photos were taken for later reference. Later is now, the lettering has been digitized, missing characters added, and VLNL Melk sees the light of day. VLNL Melk is an all-caps geometric display sans serif family of three weights, Regular, Bold and Black. The basic shape of the letters is a rectangle with rounded corners, leaving a sturdy no-nonsense look and feel. It has a distinct historic aura, but with both feet in this digital day and age. It can equally well be used for the logo of a hipster coffee place, as the cover of a historic novel. Nevertheless, I’ve noticed that in most cases that designers use monospaced typefaces is not because of their particular features caused by the strict rules of design — all characters share the same advanced width — rather because of it’s ‘electronic derived’ appearance. So, I decided to create a typeface that keeps the characteristics that, in my opinion attract designers to this particular sort of types, but deliberately break the main rule: characters do not share the same width — but they they look like they do! This is not an historically accurate font but rather one intended capture the spirit of ancient Roman manual type. It was inspired by various patterns used in documents and books created by Latin scribes between the second and fourth centuries. They used either calamus and ink on papyrus, or a pointed metal stick on wax tablets. We have created the font for contemporary use; distinguishing between U and V, I and J, which had no meaning for ancient Latin scribes, and adding thorn, Oslash, Lslash, W, Y and common accented characters that did not exist at the time.
