Blacketor came about from hand lettering I had done for my own personal use several years ago. It remained unfinished until now. I was going for a more traditional serif font but in the process of play various versions came about while playing with the serifs, in an attempt to be slightly different. Many versions fell to the wayside as I learned more about what didn’t work than what did. What came about was a clean font with large open counters and short ascenders for an easy read. All caps works well for a bold but not shouty statement. A good font for Headlines and callouts as well as logotypes.

Alna is an All Caps Display typeface born with a daily calligraphic sketch exploration focused on recurrent diagonal stroke and reverse contrast inspired by Bastarda and 16th century French Caractères de Civilités forebears St Augustine Civilité. The customised retail typeface offers a stable but full of life feeling. What a nice tranquil feeling you get from the wide forms of this font. The air of spontaneity was the most important thing about developing Rifleman. The forms were carefully and slowly constructed and then loosely traced with a paintbrush. Maybe the original drawings will become a font someday but i like to think that they won't for some reason. Surprisingly Rifleman is left to only the bare essential elements, anything that wasn't necessary was left out or removed. The goal was to make it as lightweight as possible to make up for the intricate detail. Rifleman is a surprisingly lightweight font offering lends itself to speedy typesetting!

“Kamenica” - named after a beautiful small mountain river in Serbia - is a font family containing 3 weights: Light, Regular and Bold. The Kamenica river is only a few meters wide. Mostly shallow and cold, clear and green, it was the direct inspiration source for the creation of this condensed typeface. As our other typefaces, “Kamenica” also combines traditional shapes with modern forms, tall x-height and a collection of more than 300 glyphs. Comparing the river with the font, we could say that letters are the fishes that lives in the Kamenica river and that the font weights are the seasons in which this river shows most of its own character.

CA Cape Rock, first released in 2007 and now reissued and expanded, is an impressive display typeface. Designed with a fat Clarendon and wood type in mind, the typeface’s bold and distinctive forms add spice and personality to any design that requires a strong display aesthetic. It’s a fluid type style that is equally at home on food and drink, confectionery and fmcg packaging: my original working title for it was ‘Jelly Bean’, for reasons that should be obvious! (Note to designers: to create the neon glow effect in Photoshop, make a duplicate of the type layer, rasterize it and add a Gaussian blur filter of approx. 50%. Then bring the original type layer to the top and offset it as required).

Madre Script is a typeface that experiences adopting two building models: the typographic (with repetition of shapes) and the script (with the freedom of writing). The models are presented in a subtle, unobtrusive way and mainly without conflicts. The essence of each personality is present, coexisting harmoniously and enjoying the same stylistic space. There's a little restaurant in an old house on a sidestreet in town (Rockland, Maine, USA) called Cafe Miranda. The staff is friendly, the setting intimate, and the appetizer a basket of hot bread fresh from a brick oven. Its ample menu features such entries as "Quasi-Cassoulet" and "Gentle Sole." It's among my favorite local places to dine out. But the menu got photocopied once too often, and Cindy's personable handlettering got faded and broken. So I took matters into my own hands. And here's what I delivered to the newly computerized folks at the little restaurant on Oak Street. You, too, can travel in rather heavy felt-tip style.

Punkaholic started out as a loopy, all caps display font with a semi condensed feel. Before completion some of the letters such as A and W were given a more traditional look and were penciled in for alternates. In the end, however, they were added as uppercase characters instead. For this reason most words in lowercase vary in appearance from their uppercase counterparts. This dichotomy between straight lined capitals and rounded ones makes for some interesting contrasts. Punkaholic works best in less formal settings such as café menus, t-shirts, or children’s publications. It comes in 3 styles and contains Latin, extended Latin, punctuation, and kerning.

النبض - the Pulse Pulse JP ME is a constructivist text and display font that differs from comparable fonts due to its special sharpness and harmonious balance. Its technical and constructed form creates a somewhat artificial impression of particular appeal. It is ideal for display on the screen and can be used in many projects. Pulse JP ME is a super family consisting of 48 fonts from compressed to expanded in six weights each. This opens up a wide designspace with the possibility of combining typefaces of the same character in a wide variety of variants and being able to adapt them to very different conditions. The details of the individual fonts are coordinated with each other with great precision and perfectly implemented in terms of craftsmanship. In all variants, this leads to a very balanced design with particular sharpness. The very extensive character set supports 120 Latin + 7 Arabic languages + Hebrew. The Arabic characters were designed in close collaboration with the Iranian designer Prof. Raafat Negarandeh. Here the constructivist approach is repeated within Arabic proportions. Opinion varies regarding the role of Claude Garamond (ca. 1480–1561) in the development of the Old Face font Garamond. What is accepted is the influence this font had on other typeface developments from the time of its creation to the present. Garamond, or Garamont, is related to the alphabet of Claude Garamond (1480–1561) as well as to the work of Jean Jannon (1580–1635 or 1658), much of which was attributed to Garamond. In comparison to the earlier Italian font forms, Garamond has finer serif and a generally more elegant image. The Garamond of Jean Jannon was introduced at the Paris World’s Fair in 1900 as Original Garamond, whereafter many font foundries began to cast similar types. The famous Stempel Garamond interpretation of the 1920s remains true to the original Garamond font with its typical Old Face characteristics. The bold italic was a modern addition at the end of the 1920s and the small caps provided an alternative to the standard capital letters. In the mid 1980s, a light version was added to Stempel Garamond. Since its appearance, Stempel Garamond has been one of the most frequently used text fonts.

One menorah that I have long found particularly appealing was named The Tree of Life Menorah, a replica of which I gave as a gift one holiday to a kindly old couple who were neighbors and became friends. It had a simple, organic elegance that I see in the best of Art Nouveau sculpture. To me personally, Judeism is a celebration of life, like the triumph of the flower that blossoms in the crack of the city sidewalk. Just as Hanukkah celebrates the rededication of the temple and the miracle of the oil, it celebrates the victorious quest for freedom of the Hebrew people led by Judah Maccabee. Hanukkah represents determination and courage and faith — and it represents the presence of God in the lives of His people. It is interesting to note that the founding of the Albanian nation in the early twentieth century grew out of the resistance of the Albanian people to the imposition of Greek language and culture in the aftermath of the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire. The typeface, HADASSAH, designed by Henri Friedlander (1904-1996), is my favorite Hebrew typeface. Thirty years in the crafting, I believe it is unsurpassed for its shear beauty, combining a subtle modulation of stroke with a simplicity and clarity of form. No doubt, that is why it has become so popular. For me, the Sîyn/Shîyn characters are especially satisfying. For a Hanukkah message in Hebrew, I would choose HADASSAH LIGHT for a headline and print it as large as I could. If, however, you are looking for a friendly, warm face for a seasonal message in a roman-letter based language, may I suggest BETHLEHEM EPHRATH. It will be as comfortable as a bulky, hand-knit sweater on a frosty afternoon and reflects the solid, encompassing, family orientation of this holiday. The font BETHLEHEM EPHRATH is based on the typeface Accent with the permission of URW++ of Hamburg, Germany. Like most display fonts, it is most effective at 18 points and larger. Like most script fonts, it is most effective when set with both upper and lower case. Although this font is readable in all caps (many scripts are not), that does not make it a good idea.
