Amigo was designed by Arthur Baker in 1989 and consists of a single weight. Its basic forms are based on Venetian old face types, as can be seen for example in the slightly slanted cross stroke of the lower case e. But Baker also gave his figures eccentric contours, for example, a marked stroke contrast which gives the look of having been written with a broad-tipped pen, and the change in stroke is by no means regular in the lower case characters. The heavier upper parts become thinner as they progress downward, in contrast to the tendency of most text typefaces. The eccentricity of the forms give the characters a lively almost comic look and is best highlighted in large point sizes. However, Amigo is also legible in point sizes as small as 10 and well-suited for middle length texts and headlines.

Terafile, a sans serif family designed by Raúl Plancarte who was inspired by hi-tech aesthetics. It is made up of eight weight variants with their respective italic versions. Ideally it works to capture in a graphic way the universe related to technology, sci-fi, industry and similar topics. It is a mixed family, because the construction of certain letters (as in "a", "f", "z", "B", "P", among others) is enriched with different finishes in structure to gain differentiation and plasticity. In other words, it moves away from an entirely academic design. Another important line in the creative concept of this typeface is the function of its ink traps, which, in addition to fulfilling their primary function, serve to gain gestuality in its use. This font is capable of covering complex design needs by enabling association with specific themes, which makes it highly competitive in its graphic line.

The British Vogue commissioned this typeface for their magazine re-design in 2001. After studying the originals of Morris Fuller Benton and the existing versions, this font was designed with all new thin weights. Just when the family was finished, Vogue informed that they had decided to use American Typewriter instead. Bastards. But here is a true classic typeface with a facelift. The pun intended. Tee Franklin has seven weights with obliques, the Heavy being just slightly heavier than the existing versions from Adobe and ITC, and moving down to totally new Ultra Light, using Luc(as) de Groot's formula to keep the weights optically correct. The glyphs are the same as the Morris Fuller Benton's original from 1902, except for the upper case Q, which was re-designed with a loop in the counter for added differentiation.

I will spare you the long-winded description this time and all of the motivations and witty innuendoes. Quite frankly, I forgot about creating this typeface and it sat on my hard drive for almost a year. Luckily, my daughter Isobel saw the initial drawings one day and ask me about those pretty letters and I remembered… yep, that happened. That said, time made this a better typeface… with fresh eyes and time, much was redrawn, retooled and expanded to something I truly enjoy playing with. Shameless makes extensive use of Contextual alternates to create a proper ebb and flow from letter to letter. Interestingly, there are only a handful of ligatures… instead many special combinations are accounted for solely by relying on Contextual Alts. Mix in Stylistic Alts, Swashes, responsive Titling Alts, numerous Style Sets, etc and you can have a lot of fun. I created 2 versions. A ‘Standard’ version that has 2200+ characters and a ‘Deluxe’ version that has 2400+ characters and an interesting caveat… I plan on expanding the Deluxe version any time I have an idea to add to the typeface… and as such, buyers will receive all of those updates at no charge (with updates going directly to the distributors). You get what you pay for… no insane discounts. Oh, and if you are wondering… Shameless is based on my handwriting using Kuretake Zig CocoIro pens. I love these pens.

Close Together was designed to alternate convex and concave letter sets, with convex letters on the upper-case keys and concave shapes on the lower-case keys. The OpenType feature of contextual alternatives (calt) does this automatically. Individually some of the letter shapes are strange and unsightly. They have the shapes that they have so that they fit snuggly with adjacent letters. The family has three weights: regular, bold, and extrabold. The letter spacing is set very tight and the user may want to loosen it by altering characters spacing. (Either the convex or concave set the letters can be used alone if the character spacing is adjusted.) Dolce is the next step in Elena Albertoni’s ongoing exploration of handwritten letterforms that started with her typefaces Dyna and Scritta. It is an attempt to arrive at a more naturally flowing type of handwriting, striking a balance between the orderly and the informal, while taking a critical look at the possibilities and limits of OpenType. Dolce uses OpenType functionality to achieve a strong sense of spontaneity. . Because the uppercase letters of Dolce are lively calligraphic initials, they should be used only in combination with lowercase, and not in all-caps setting; to make it easier for the user, Dolce includes a special OpenType feature that automatically substitutes initials with small caps when words are completely set in capitals. The small caps set is calmer, fitting nicely with the rest of the typeface. Dolce offers full support for Central European languages. Although originally conceived as a magazine face – with strong serifs and open character shapes for good legibility in small sizes, and compact letter forms optimized for narrow columns and tight headlines – Marat evolved into a comprehensive family for general use. This specific construction and the round forms of the letters create an elegant, soft and friendly appearance. The typeface suits a wide range of typography, e.g. editorial, brochures, packaging and corporate design. In particular, in bold weights it works surprisingly well, which is not always the case with serif faces. Many of the fonts available from Canada Type are revivals of historic brush scripts (such as Bruschetta, Coffee Script, Puma, Tiger Script). Hunter is a deserved addition to the collection. Imre Reiner's Mustang design from 1956 now enters the digital realm to continue living in this world of new typography. Hunter has a wilder streak than other brush scripts. Its irregular terminals give it an almost wooden appearance and a most natural, hand-made expression. This natural look was extended by the expansion of the original design and the addition of some alternates and ligatures, built within the font and easily accessible from any program's glyph palette. Inspired by a few letters in a hand-drawn logotype, Swashington is a serif font with both an early 20th Century feel and yet is evocative of the swash fonts of the 1970s as well. The real meat of this typeface comes with using all the swash and ligature variants allowing for an enormous amount of typographic flair. Starting with the original logo, Jason Walcott was moved to develop these interesting letterforms into a full typeface with all the swashy might he could muster. Giambattista is a long-time project of mine finally come to an end. After redesigning all of Giambattista Bodoni's work and then some additional cuts I started a long time ago with this Non-Bodoni Bodoni. The idea came to me while redesigning the original Chancellerosa (chancery). I thought Bodoni just didn't have the right approach to a chancery, this was just not his cup of tea! Maybe that is why he never used the Chancellerosa very much for his own printshop in Parma. So I thought someone has to design a script, that looks like Bodoni could have designed it but is more lively than his. Over the years I have been working on and off on the face and it turned out to become three typefaces which can be freely mixed. Here is my modern version of a script in the style of Giambattista, meant as an hommage, I called it Giambattista. Your modern scribe Gert Wiescher

Linotype Projekt was created by German type designer Andreas Koch with both a well-defined inspiration and goal. It occurred to me that typefaces like Helvetica and Univers seemed to have a higher quality in hot-metal composition as with modern digital typesetting. They are stronger and livelier. This is in part due to the printing process, which presses the characters onto paper, and in part to the forms of the letters, which differ from the PostScript version of the same typeface. An important aspect of printing is the slight increase in character width resulting from the pressure which also serves as an optical correction to the forms. (True exact squares appear slightly barrel-formed to the eye.) I wanted to revive this peculiarity, not because of a nostalgic feeling, rather just because it is more attractive." The result is Linotype Projekt, a text font which is harmonious, clear and extremely legible. Koch lives in Bielefeld, Germany, and is a freelance book and type designer."

We thought it would be a fun idea to each create a font from a handmade sign we saw in the city. We only had like 7 glyphs to work with, so the rest was up to our imagination. We also thought it would be nice to give the fonts a similar name. Mundbind means mask in Danish. When you Google translate it, it will give you the wrong translation (it will say 'mouth piece'), so trust me on this one! My font is called Mundbind NL - where the NL stands for Netherlands. Jakob will hopefully call his finished font Mundbind DK - where the DK stands for Denmark. Mundbind NL comes with a monster load of diacritics (including Vietnamese) and two alternate glyphs for the lower case letters that will cycle as you type.

A narrow, modern Slab Serif. JOSEFOV is directly derived from the sans serif text font ”Hedwig“. Therefore, of course, it pairs best with “Hedwig”. The basic thought was to create a font with heavy rounded serifs in the style of ”Clarendon“ but which hardly reminds one of that particular font. The form principle of rounded serifs is applied whenever possible — for example at the points where the individual strokes of the characters join one another. JOSEFOV seems very technical, very constructed (and truly is). In order to soften up the rigid impression, the serifs are applied at some points contrary to the tradition handed down, as with the upper case A C G K M V W and the lower case a b d h i j k l s t. Historically there is no example of the laterally oriented serifs of capital and small s (S) and C G. On the other hand, the double-sided serifs on the stems of b d h k l appear at the beginning of modern times in the very first serif types from five hundred years ago. The double-sided serifs of A M V W were also customary in the first decades of printing. JOSEVOV is particularly suitable for topics such as nature, folklore, culture, music, nutrition.

This is a perfect font for historical or fantasy titles. It is influenced by ancient Nordic runes. the strokes flare slightly, to a concave terminal for a finely carved appearance. There are two sets of capitals in PR-Vanaheim-DC (Dual Capitals); one set of narrow letters, more closely related to Runic forms, and one set which includes wider and circular letters, which can be freely combined with the narrow letters for the variety associated with hand lettering. There is one version with dots placed in the centre of large counters and one version without the dots. The broad caps character set includes characters which allow for tight spacing; a dropped L, and a tall T. There are also two different lowercase sets, one modern, and one archaic, all of which can be freely mixed to fine tune the appearance of your text.
