Zapf International font is the work of German designer Hermann Zapf, formal enough for widespread use yet tempered with calligraphic warmth. Vigor in the italics is achieved more from design than from slant. One of the distinguishing characteristics of Zapf International is its graduation of weights. Light and medium are relatively close and equally eloquent for text. Demi is a full two steps heavier than medium and heavy several steps beyond demi.

Linotype Banjoman was designed by Paul Veres. Most of its basic forms are constructed although some characters, like the a, g, or p, are more freely designed. This font is available in a variety of weights and styles. The bold weights are best for headlines or emphasis in text and the balanced Text styles were designed specifically for running text. Lodgepole is a hand illustrated font family created by Zach Minard of Tall Trees Design Co. Inspired by timeless legibility and worn National Park signage. Lodgepole Regular and Book are designed to pair perfectly together, while both of these styles are available as Solid (With no internal texture) or Grit. Lodgepole Grit uses the strokes from the original pen-to-paper illustration for all texture, creating an authentic one-of-a-kind texture.

Limoen means 'lemon' in Dutch. Why did I call this font Limoen? Well, I guess I ran out of meaningful names, so I had to work with whatever popped in my head - which happened to be Limoen. Don't ask… Limoen is a very cute, very threedee-ish typeface. It works great in poster ads and as a display font. It comes with upper and lower case letters and a whole bunch of diacritics. Enjoy!

A DISTANT SOIL is a classic bold and beautiful science fiction/fantasy comic book series by creator, writer, artist AND letterer Colleen Doran! A DISTANT SOIL is being remastered and re-released by those awfully nice chaps at Image Comics and Colleen commissioned Comicraft to create the definitive bold and beautiful Colleen Doran font, based on her original pen lettering, so that she might re-letter the series without excessive eye strain or hand cramp.

Ratafly is versatile serifed font that can be used for display or text. The family has ten styles, with five weights and italics for each weight. The name Ratafly is a reference to the origin of the family. It began by blending two very different serifed typefaces, Rataczak and FlyHigh. After a lot of cleaning up, the end result is a family that works better for book text than either of the parents.

Monograph conjures ancient typewriters, telephone switchboards, vintage office machines past visions of the future. As though it were drawn with the rounded nib a of a Speedball "B" style pen, the soft curves and rounded serifs speak of a gentler less complicated time. It is nuanced with traces of the Arts and Crafts movement at the turn of the 20th Century which stressed craftsmanship and preserving and emphasizing the qualities of construction and materials.

Yuge, apparently, is how New Yorkers pronounce huge. I have never been to New York, so I can’t tell if this is a fact. But I often hear a certain New Yorker pronounce it that way, so I guess it’s sort of true. Yuge is a handwritten font - made with a Sharpie pen. Believe me, it is a good font. It is fantastic. It is the best font ever. It is YUGE! ;-)

Cosmic Dust is dust that occurs in outer space or has fallen onto earth. Cosmic Dust font isn’t a dusty or celestial affair, no, it is a nice and useful font I made with a Sharpie pen. It is a little uneven, a little wobbly, but comes with a lot of character. Use it for your book covers, product packaging or posters. This font is a very new typeface from 2022. It is based on biro pen writings. The name Hanka is the nick of the designer’s daughter. The family has seven weights (straight and oblique), which are OpenType sets with PostScript curves. Features include ligatures (classical and discretionary), number formats (tabular/proportional, lining/old style), fractions, old-style formats, stylistic alternates, and kerning. Brouillard means ‘fog’ in French. I like the ‘oui’ letter combination and I was looking for a name for this font that contained those letters. I found Brouillard and presto: a new font was born! Brouillard font was handmade with a Japanese pen. It is an elegant, curvy and quite stylish font with a bit of a roughness to it - just enough to catch your attention. All three styles come with a load of diacritics.

Hand Draft is hand crafted to emulate both the early printer’s serif font and/or a hand-drawn version of an early Serif font, using either a felt or round nibbed pen. Muffin is a soft and rounded humanistic low-contrast sans serif based on broad nib writing. It comes in five weights ranging from Regular to Black. The friendly character of the font becomes even more pronounced in the darkest styles. Muffin is well suited for food packaging, menus, children's products, while Regular may be easily used for long runs of text. The font was designed by Natalia Vasilyeva and released by Paratype in 2017.

The Bermuda Family was designed by Garrett Boge and Paul Shaw, in the vein of freely-drawn showcard lettering — jaunty, fun and friendly. In fact the drawings were made with a Speedball™ B-series pen nib, the stock tool of the showcard letterer. Bermuda Open is a stroked outline version and its character shapes are repeated in the other three styles, each with a separate fill variant — Solid, Dots and Squiggles.

Ad Hoc is a fake. My intention was to design a typeface with the looks of the characters drawn on paper with a marker pen. But they are all drawn on a monitor, with no scanner ever involved. That's the reason why they look so regular. Ad Hoc is Latin and stands for, approximately, for this reason". The expression itself is often used for something unplanned, improvised. Ad Hoc was released in 1992.

Hamada is a script typeface based on the powerful work of English calligrapher Gaynor Goffe. Hamada captures looseness and charming irregularities of the pen on the page, allowing ink to edge out from the contours and move across curves and letters. Thanks to OpenType, Hamada creates an impression very much like that of real calligraphy. Most of the letters in Hamada have alternate versions; the typeface comes with ligatures, ending swashes, and more.

Shinano is an old province of Japan. Kobayashi Issa (1763 - 1828), a famous Japanese Haiku poet and Buddhist priest, was born here. Together with Bashō he is my favourite Haiku poet. Shinano font was hand made using a Japanese brush pen. At first glance it may look like a messy script, but underneath its rough appearance beats a poetic heart. Comes with some alternates and ligatures and a whole lot of diacritics.

Quebra Ex Cn (Extra Condensed) is an extend display sans-serif font family, available with four widths (Extra Condensed, Condensed, Normal and Expanded) and ten weights, italics versions are available. The main strokes contain small breaks simulating modulated variations on the letterforms, these details are more present on large body sizes. All font versions contain Latin and Cyrillic encoding characters and also ligatures, case-sensitive forms, fractions, oldstyle and finally tabular figures.

I can’t remember when I had a true lazy morning.. I was a looong time ago, before I had children! Even now, when I’m down with the flu, I can’t stay in bed for too long - it really seems like a waste of time! Lazy Morning is a nice handwritten font. I made it with a Sharpie pen. It comes with all diacritics and double letter ligatures for you to play with.

Poem Script is a mixed collection of interpretations conjuring a late nineteenth century American pen script style. Though not an actual Italian letterform, this style was called “Italian Alphabet” stemming from an old penman’s term for an alphabet where the stress or shades are opposite their normal placement. The American variant followed from the late eighteenth century British hand also confusingly called “Italian Hand,” which itself evolved from some seventeenth century French batarde scripts. It showcases the phenomenal control and mastery of hand skills required to create such ornamental and lively letters centuries ago. Producing the shaded strokes in reversed positions such as this required holding the pen in a position horizontal to the baseline, or the letterforms would have to be written backwards or by rotating the paper at peculiar and extreme angles to achieve the effect. Exotic, elaborate and very attractive, Poem Script contains plenty of variations on each letter and comes with hundreds of calligraphic ornaments. Poem Script received a Certificate of Excellence at the Type Directors Club NY and was selected at the Bienal Tipos Latinos 2012.

Magneton is a brush script typeface that contains three weights and two slant angles. Three weights simulates the pressure of the brush pen; light is written with a gentle pressure and the bold one with more pressure. Two slant angles gives Magneton two natures; the more casual one and the more dynamic one. So with this script you have lots of options to choose from. You can adjust the look and feel just like when writing with a real brush pen! Magneton has lots of alternates and swash characters. It has two sets (and more) of upper case letters. @andinistas presents Rapsodia, an uncommon roman caps font with serif and high contrast, designed by #carlosfabiancg. Rapsodia was inspired by Stunt Roman, Speedball Textbook for Pen & Brush Lettering by Ross F. George. Rapsodia has a high and sweetened amount of contrast between thin and thick with drop-shaped finishes, reminiscent of Didot, Baskerville and Bodoni. Its artistic accent translates into Tuscan letters drawn with a flexible tip pen. In that order, Rapsodia combines the visual theatricality of an art nouveau corset, with creative historical classics such as Liza Minnelli, Gene Simmons and Freddie Mercury. Its calligraphic curlers full of Mannerist virtuosity are unnatural in Roman caps typefaces with serif. That is why its internal vein in ascending and descending flourishes protrudes with Chicano circus details like triangular diamonds located in vertical strokes. Rapsodia serves to design words and phrases in fine publications, for this reason most of its upper and lower case letters communicate feelings with classic and luxurious sensation through substitutes, ligatures and alternatives for beginning, middle or end of word, functioning as initials and terminals.

Gerard Unger’s new typeface Alverata is a twenty-first-century type-face inspired by the shapes of Romanesque capitals in inscriptions of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, without being a close imitation of them. It is additionally based on the early twentieth-century model, but tweaked so as to prevent blandness and monotony. Alverata performs beautifully in both screen and on paper, delivering excellent legibility. Its letters are open and friendly in small sizes and lively and attractive in large sizes. They are robust, and show refinement in their detail. Unger’s Alverata is an extensive type family, with versions for both formal and informal applications, and with Greek and Cyrillic relatives. Alverata consists of three different fonts: Alverata, Alverata Irregular and Alverata Informal, that vary in form and width, but maintain the same spirit. The Irregular version is particularly inspired by the Insular letterforms, the uncials, and their constantly changing positioning. Alverata strikes a balance among Europe’s diversity of languages, combining contemporary typographical practices with features of medieval letterforms, from the time when Europe came into being. Visually, some written languages, such as Czech and Maltese, differ quite strongly from languages like English and German, notably because of their many accented characters. While other typefaces will show this difference, Alverata removes it. As a result, Alverata enables harmonious convergence of languages.  For the development of the Greek letterforms, Unger collaborated with Gerry Leonidas (University of Reading) and Irene Vlachou (Athens), and with Tom Grace on the Cyrillic letterforms.

It was designed to be perfectly suited to all different sizes, from small continuous text to large headlines and big signage. The typeface’s name is derived from ‘a’ ‘cor’porate ‘de’sign typeface, however Acorde is not only suitable for corporate design programmes but for information design and editorial design purposes as well. Acorde’s inception was in early 2005 as Stefan Willerstorfer’s final project in the Type and Media course at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (NL). It is a humanist sans serif with noticeable diagonal contrast and shows clear influences of the broad nib pen, especially in the Italics. Acorde’s characterful details give it a distinctive appearance in large sizes and contribute to its high legibility in small sizes. It comes in 14 styles – seven weights in Roman and Italic each. Aure Westra embodies the liquid look of a broad-nibbed ink pen. These bold forms engage the reader with a subtext of exotic wisdom. Westra’s entrancing flow brings a dramatic intrigue to text and titles and an esoteric savor to astrological expressions and chartwheels. Westra is an original design developed by Aurora Isaac, first released in the LP glyphset in 2011. After more than a decade in development, 2018 marks the release of the CJ and KB glyphsets. The CJ glyphset is a full text font with an extended set of lowercase and uppercase glyphs supporting a variety of European languages. The 1920 song “Noah’s Wife Lived a Wonderful Life (‘Cause Noah Had to Stay Home)” is another example of one of those overly-worded song titles from early 20th Century composers. What’s more important for type enthusiasts is that the title was hand lettered with a round nib pen in a slightly ragged Art Nouveau style. Cleaning up the ragged design, the end result became Nouveau Showcard JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

David Berlow undertook the revival of Frederic W. Goudy’s Village family in the early ’90s as the first real step in the successful redesign of Esquire magazine. Goudy originally cut Village No. 2 in 1932 to bring early ideas up to date, adding the italic a year or two later for his own satisfaction. Font Bureau expanded Village, the model for Goudy’s mature style, into a ten-part series designed for Esquire’s use in text and display; FB 1994

Will Carter, well known in connection with his private press in Cambridge, has combined the skills of a calligrapher with a practical knowledge of printing. His mastery of pen-drawn letterforms was put to practical use in the design of Klang. Klang is a slightly inclined and calligraphically shaped sans serif with short ascenders and descenders. The Klang font is useful for informal applications, such as invitations, greetings cards and posters, but can also be used in advertising.

Quanta was designed without reference to existing sansserif faces. As an original design, Quanta draws on principles of letterform developed during my studies of lettercarving (in Wales with Ieuan Rees) and Roman proportion. My intention was to produce a highly legible and adaptable sans-serif, initially intended to be a TrueType GX font, then as a Multiple Master font, later as a five weight range from extremely thin to extra black. A related uncial design will be released shortly.

I started this font on a Monday and I finished it the Monday after, so I guess the name is right! Another Monday started off as a bit of doodling (with a Sharpie pen) on a piece of paper. Before I knew it, I had a complete glyph set and it looked nice. Another Monday is a bit messy, uneven and maybe even a little weird, but it will look good on postcards, packaging and labels.
