Albemarle is a distinctive text font based on hand lettered text from the turn of the century. It's designed to work well at text sizes, but to have some of the flair and personality of a calligraphic font. The result is both attractive and readable and doesn't look much like any other text font. We've been working on expanding the Albemarle family so that it now includes not just Albemarle, but also three swash variations and a new italic version of the font.

There is an interesting story about this vintage professional Mercedes typewriter I’ve used to make this font. My grandfather, who was a Yugoslavian partisan during the WWII captured it from a Wehrmacht command building during an attack, and he kept it in a perfect shape for so many years. After I inherited it, I wanted to share it’s uniqueness (as well as it’s story). I’ve intentionally kept it in it’s original condition - I haven’t replaced the ribbon that was some 34 years old (or more) before sampling the font, and it turned out really nice. One more important thing - I have used ONLY it’s original set of characters (Latin with some Balkan-based letters). With it’s untouched originality and uniqueness it fits to our modern culture perfectly. There are no compromises here - there are no popular @,#,$ and other characters you would expect in a font. This font is an orphanage where all the beautiful details of classical grotesque typefaces from the early twentieth century are gathered, and thus living together, are forming a ‘new’, happy family. The aim was to collect my favorite characters in one font. The start was an eclectic collection orientated on British types from the Caslon Doric No. 4, the Monotype Grotesque, the Gill, the Franklin Gothic up to the Transport. In this amalgamation I avoided the narrow apertures in the ‘e’, ‘c’ and in the numerals ‘5’, ‘6’ and ‘9’ and enlarged the x-height dramatically. To the classical slanted form of the italics I added real italic forms for ‘a’, ‘e’ and ‘g’ in order to obtain a more distinguished italic style. DF-Dejavu Pro supports all Latin-based languages (Western, Central-European, Eastern-European, Baltic and Turkish) and includes small capitals, ligatures, inferior & superior numerals and letters, fractions, various numeral styles: proportional lining, tabular lining, proportional old-style, tabular old-style and last but not least a slashed zero.

Poetica font was designed by Robert Slimbach in 1992 with particularly generous characters. The typeface family consists of 21 weights to allow for an unusual variety of design possibilities within one typeface family. Numerous swash letters, ornaments and ligatures remind one of the early Renaissance and its unforgettable masters, for example, Giambattista Palatino, who later gave his name to Hermann Zapf's creation. Slimbach used the Lettera Cancellaresca as a model for his typeface, the cultivated humanistic italic which later served as a point of departure for the development of italics of the Renaissance and thereafter. Lettera Cancellaresca is very legible, extremely harmonic and impressively beautiful. The early forms display two different compositional tendencies, namely the static of the simple vertical capitals and the italic dynamic of the slanted lower case alphabet, as shown in the weight Chancery 4. The capitals later conform to the slant of the lower case, as shown in the weights Chancery 1-3. No mystery here: this typeface is based on the not-often-seen Cooper Black Swash Italic, designed by Oswald Bruce Cooper. Swash variants are the norm with this font, but enabling Contextual Alternates will prevent collisions between the swash “tails” and letters with descenders.
