Thermal is an exploration of balance and contrast. Combining the elegance of classical typography with the sharpness of contemporary design. It was conceived to be a variable font with two axes: weight & optical size, providing a wide range of options for texts & display applications. The regular and italic text weights breathe a warm atmosphere, their design inspiration is a relaxed interpretation of the work of 16th-century French type designer Robert Granjon, evoking a comforting rhythm and a sense of familiarity that makes reading enjoyable. On the other end of Thermal's design spectrum lie the extreme weights – thin and heavy –, specifically designed for larger sizes. These weights borrow stylistic cues from several distinct influences: the characteristic woodtype from the 19th century, the sharp lettering styles from the 70s, and the bold work of Oscar Ogg. One of Thermal's disctint features is its italic's 20° inclination, an significant inclination by all standards, this design choice finds its roots in the "Ascendonica Cursive" of 1571, but is a contemporary interpretation that generates a captivating contrast with the regular version. Thermal studies the past and analyzes the present to create a unique blend, bringing a dictint dichotomic identity.

Ico Phone is a set of 115 symbols depicting anything that happens on the screen of a regular mobile phone. To name a few, there are Bluetooth and sync icons, signal bars, battery statuses, media playback icons, USB symbol, lock icon as well as a wifi signal strength indicator. The style of Ico is inspired by the look of symbols used on the classic monochrome LCD displays. The symbols are monolinear with rounded corners, composed of a smallest possible number of elements. One of the earliest fonts published by Canada Type was Almanac, Phil Rutter's digitization of Imre Reiner's 1957 calligraphic typeface, London Script. In 2007, when the font was revisited for an update, it was shown that it too light for applications under 24 pt, and too irregular for applications over 64 pt. So the face was redigitized from scratch, using larger originals. This new digitization maintains a soft contour and, slightly darker and steadier stroke, and much better outlines for use at both extremes of scaling. Language support was also greatly expanded, and many alternates and ligatures were added to the redigitized character set. The name was also changed to Reiner Hand, to better reflect the origins of the design. Reiner Hand is soft and irregular jolts from a calligraphy master's hand. In a very Reineresque fashion, most characters include the one finishing stroke that makes professional calligraphers pause and ponder this additional touch to a letter's personality. Reiner Hand comes in all popular formats. The TrueType and PostScript versions come with 2 fonts, one of them loaded with alternates and ligatures. The OpenType version combines both fonts into one, and includes features for intelligent substitution in software that supports advanced typography. Mandolin is a handmade 'Didone-ish' font with a bit of a rough edge. Mandolin was created using a wonderful (and expensive) pen I found in Canterbury, England. I am aware that this information isn't too relevant, but I thought I'd share it with you nonetheless… Mandolin comes with all diacritics.

Developed for screen For not the first time, Fontsmith was commissioned to develop a font for one of the UK’s terrestrial TV channels. The product was a clearly-defined three-weight family. When italics were added, it became FS Matthew, a clean, stylish, structured sans serif with swooping, open curves and a bright, lively personality. Southbank Inspiration for many of the forms of FS Matthew came from details found within the modernist buildings and architecture of London’s Southbank, such as the Royal Festival Hall. During the font’s gestation, Jason had found himself at London Studios, a TV studio on Southbank, and a wander around the neighbouring arts buildings proved thought-provoking. The result was a font with a very British character: solid forms that provide the platform for innovation and distinctiveness. Feelgood efficiency FS Matthew’s trademark is efficiency with a feelgood factor: disciplined enough for corporate identities, websites and signing systems, and colourful enough for logotypes and advertising.
