This font began its life as a project to design a T-shirt for a student group on a large midwestern university. It has now grown up into a unicode font, including Greek and Cyrillic. It has that look and feel of the T-shirts that are ubiquitous on the campuses of colleges and universities over the world. It would make an ideal tool for designing them, as well as posters and banners. In Lewis F. Day’s 1910 classic, Alphabets Old and New, the author presented the inspiration for this typeface as an example of German monumental lettering, most likely to suggest not that the typeface was really big, but that it had been found on German monuments. Modern digital typography pushes many designers to try and achieve visual perfection with their lettering. In the days of wooden type, the premise was more in creating a font that "sold" the message (possibly, in part due to the lack of advanced tooling to achieve uniformity). In many styles of wood type (such as the one used as a model for Broadletter JNL), there are vast differences within the character design, weight and symmetry from letter to letter. This is now looked upon as "old fashioned" and "charming" - part of the appeal of this typeface.

This font was inspired by an old photographic film package I found. Over time, the vertical slits in the letters have become more complex and acquired slanted sections. The font is suitable for accidences: headlines, posters... maybe you can suggest something interesting ;)

Syntax was developed by Hans Eduard Meier in 1968 and presented by the font foundry D. Stempel AG. Its figures are based on Old Face characters but have a distinctive, modern design. The inclination to the right lends the font a dynamic feel.

Compliment is a script design which is obviously based on H. Matheis' typeface designed for Ludwig & Mayer in 1965.Ralph M. Unger redrew and digitized this font in 2004. His work is based on artwork taken from old East German font catalogues.

Maisonneuve is named after the fracture I had in 2019. During the period of revalidation this font was born passed on circles and rectangles. A modern – almost modular – font with old school figures and lots of symbols and good readability and legibility.

Brandold is based on the repetition of one shape, the equilateral triangle. Using these triangles as pixels I built a medieval-like font that looks new, but follows an old aesthetic. I chose to make this font because I hadn’t seen anything similar.

Herold is a bold Art Nouveau advertising face released by H. Berthold, Berlin, Germany in 1901. It is also seen under the name “Herold Reklame.” The design is attributed to Hermann Hoffmann by the Klingspor Museum. A herold (‘herald’ in English, ‘heraldus’ in Latin) is one who delivers proclamations and announcements. Medieval heralds are often pictured with a horn with which to get everyone’s attention prior to performing his function. His only PA system was his own voice. Left and right glyphs of a herald with horn may be found at positions 137 and 172. Herold is quite compact with a high x-height, just right for making -- what else? -- announcements.

The geometry of Paul Renner’s sans letterforms was tempered by optical correction to follow earlier typeface proportions, with capitals close to old-style forms, yet still retaining the spirit of the New Typography. His early experimental characters were included as alternatives in the sans which was to become the Futura released by Bauer in 1927–30. Unusually, old style figures also appeared in his early versions but they too were soon discarded. Foundry Architype Renner as a new four weight family has been developed from the original Renner Regular and Bold, created by The Foundry for the first Architype Collections in the early 1990s. This new family features the old style figures and the experimental elements.

Someri (English: Sumerian) is an Arabetic type design with a Cuneiform spirit. The Someri family follows the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style. It has one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in Unicode Standards version 5.1, and one additional, final-position, glyph for each Arabic letter that is normally connected with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Someri employs variable x-height values. It includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and uses ligature substitutions and selected marks positioning but it does not use any other glyph substitutions or forming. Text strings composed using types of this family are non-cursive with stand-alone isolated glyphs. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph isolated form. Keying it before Alif Lam Lam Ha will display the Allah ligature. Someri family includes both Arabic and Arabic-Indic numerals; all required diacritic marks, Allah ligature, in addition to all standard English keyboard punctuations and major currency symbols. Open Range is a new font design based on an old classics sans serif font from the 1800s. Some may say that this font looks like a western version of the more modern Benguiat but samples of lettering from the 1800s show a similar design to Benguiat and may have been the inspiration for that font.

After the Second World War, the Ionic style replaced Modern Face as the favored typeface for newsprint. A couple decades later, it was in turn replaced by the next generation of newspaper fonts, a mix of Old Face, Transitional and Modern Face forms. Rotation was designed by Arthur Ritzel and presented by Stempel/Linotype in 1971 and named for the rotation newsprint machine for which is was particularly suited. The font displays the influence of Old Face design and gives newsprint a feeling of lightness and elegance.

Fiesole was inspired by calligraphic models; it is a bookface font family to be used for text, display and caption. Fiesole has three different lengths of items (ascenders-descenders).
