Song Plugger JNL was based on hand lettering spotted on some late-1920s-early 1930s sheet music.

I have just returned from a trip to Malaysia, Java and Bali with my family: my wife had some family business there, so we turned it into a holiday. The last time I visited these places was 26 years ago and I knew things would have changed, but I wasn’t prepared for the ugly truth. Malaysia’s interior has been converted into one big oil palm plantation, Java is choked in plastic and Bali is one endless string of concrete hotels, restaurants and cheap tattoo parlours. Plastic Fantastic is not an ode to the many uses of plastic. It is a wake up call: we really need to stop using disposable plastic! The goal of this font design was to create forms which could be used and reproduced electronically and remain legible. Technicians from the European Computer Manufacturers’ Association and Adrian Frutiger combined strict mathematical criteria with typographic tradition to solve both technical and aesthetic problems. OCR was the resulting font and was made a world standard in 1973. Wonder Brush is a display typographer's guilty pleasure. It's one of very few fonts ever made that can take intense abuse and still look natural. Partly based on a 1969 Friedrich Poppl design called Poppl Stretto, but considerably fused with ideas found in interwar magazine ad lettering and signage, Wonder Brush caters to the idea that most graphic designers would rather use design elements they can enjoy. When you spend your days being "challenged" and "creatively tested" and "communicating the message," you can definitely use a little bit of playtime. And this font gives you just that, playtime on the job. Wonder Brush appears to be a straightforward narrow upright brush script. But it really is made of malleable rubber.
